Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 145: Island Royale 14Perry Yates didn’t sleep for long. Or rather, in an environment like this, it was impossible for her to fall into a dead sleep.
After waking, Perry Yates popped a small, green candy into her mouth. An icy, stimulating sensation instantly flooded her palate and shot straight to her brain, jolting her fully awake.
The sky had already grown dim.
Night was when the beasts of prey came out to hunt.
Not far away, Amber Sheridan also slowly opened his eyes. He stood up, stretching his stiff limbs and neck.
As he moved, his neck and joints made CRACKLING sounds that were exceptionally clear in the silent night.
"It’s hunting time. We should go check on our prey."
As he spoke, a brilliant smile spread across Amber Sheridan’s lips, his pearly white teeth practically glowing in the darkness.
Evan Fuller, standing to the side, said nothing, but for some reason, Perry Yates detected a hint of disdain in his eyes—directed at Amber Sheridan.
Evan Fuller set off in one direction, and Amber Sheridan followed right behind him. Seeing this, Perry Yates hurried to keep up.
The two men were from the same planet and shared a deep friendship. This surely wasn’t their first or second time clearing a game together. So, Perry Yates didn’t try to be clever and offer her own opinion; she just followed silently behind.
Perry Yates had always been very clear about her role: support.
In her own words: ’If you can get carried to victory, why bother working hard? If you can ride on someone’s coattails, why struggle to clear the game by fighting for your life?’
Just then, Amber Sheridan, who was walking ahead, said abruptly, "Keep up."
Then, before Perry Yates could even react, the figures of Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan vanished on the spot.
Seeing this, Perry Yates couldn’t help but curse, "Fuck." She then used her plant-sensing ability to pinpoint their current location and followed them with her Any Door.
Meanwhile, Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan were moving rapidly through the forest, their speed so great that they were little more than afterimages. Perry Yates, using her Any Door, followed unhurriedly behind them.
While moving at high speed, Amber Sheridan glanced back, wanting to see if Perry Yates had kept up.
When he saw the figure flickering in and out of sight behind them, a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. He then accelerated to catch up to Evan Fuller and said, "Master Ford, this little rookie can actually keep up with us."
His tone was tinged with admiration.
In truth, their sudden disappearance served a dual purpose: one, to save time, and two, to test Perry Yates’s abilities.
Her desire to ride their coattails was written all over her face. Amber Sheridan didn’t mind having another "tagalong," especially since this particular "tagalong" was a skilled cook—something they desperately needed.
But not minding was one thing; she still had to be tested. After all, not just anyone was qualified to be a "tagalong" for him and Master Ford.
Fortunately, Perry Yates hadn’t disappointed them.
However, no sooner had he thought this than Perry Yates’s figure vanished completely from behind them, as if she had run out of steam and couldn’t keep up.
At the sight, Amber Sheridan couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. "Spoke too soon."
The reality, however, was that Perry Yates found trailing them like this too troublesome and a waste of energy. ’I’ll just wait for them to reach their destination and use Instant Teleportation to pop over.’
About half an hour later, sensing that Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan had finally stopped, Perry Yates leisurely opened her Any Door and appeared behind them, looking perfectly composed.
Suddenly, a gust of wind shot toward Perry Yates’s face. She reacted instantly. Only when they both saw who they were attacking did they slam on the brakes.
Evan Fuller’s hand stopped mere centimeters from Perry Yates’s eyes, while her own hand halted just before his throat.
Evan Fuller glanced at Perry Yates, said nothing, and withdrew his hand.
At the same time, Amber Sheridan sidled up to them. "Not bad," he said. "You actually kept up. I really thought you’d run out of steam. But from now on, be careful not to pop up behind Master Ford. He doesn’t like people appearing behind him without warning."
’He attacked me directly this time, probably because he was afraid a loud noise would alert the others. If this were the real world, he probably would’ve just opened fire.’
Perry Yates nodded in acknowledgment, but inwardly she thought, ’What a stupid quirk.’
She then turned her gaze toward the camp.
"So many people are missing. Haven’t they come back yet?"
’There were fewer than thirty people in the camp now. Over a hundred were just... gone. What happened while I wasn’t looking?’
With this thought, Perry Yates placed her hand on a nearby tree trunk and began to sense with her ability.
The result was shocking.
’I expected them to split up eventually, but I never thought it would happen this fast. And... they’re actually killing each other.’
Perry Yates was baffled. She was shocked.
’Just what kind of people did the game system pick? Their killing techniques look even more practiced than mine.’
Fortunately, when the victims turned into monsters, Justin Shaw, who was hidden among the crowd, had already taken care of them.
When Perry Yates opened her eyes, she found both Amber Sheridan and Evan Fuller looking at her.
They didn’t say a word, but Perry Yates somehow understood their unspoken question. "They turned on each other," she said. "Three people were killed."
Hearing this, neither Amber Sheridan nor Evan Fuller showed much surprise, as if they had expected it all along.
"In a minute, Master Ford and I will handle the attack," Amber said. "You’ll be on defense. Don’t let any Hunters escape."
Just as Amber Sheridan and Evan Fuller were about to move in, Perry Yates suddenly spoke up. "Um, actually, I have a better idea."
"What is it?" Amber Sheridan asked, his curiosity piqued.
"How about we take them out one by one?" As she spoke, Perry Yates pointed toward the camp. A stream of white smoke billowed from her finger, flowing toward the encampment.
"This is Sleeping Cloud Mist," she explained. "It puts anyone who inhales it into a deep sleep. You could beat gongs and drums right next to their ears, and they wouldn’t wake up."
As Perry Yates explained, the Sleeping Cloud Mist had already enveloped the entire camp. Everyone who breathed it in, regardless of what they were doing, simply closed their eyes and collapsed into a deep slumber.
"Now we can pick them off one by one without worrying about any of them escaping," Perry Yates said, as if presenting a precious treasure.
"Nice, very nice. That’s a great idea." Amber Sheridan praised her highly, then raised an eyebrow at Evan Fuller.
Evan Fuller shot him a look and said coldly, "We’ll deal with that later."
