[Congratulations to Player Perry Yates for clearing the game, Cave Survival. The next game will be the Croupier Game, which will begin randomly at some point in the next ten days. Please be prepared.]

[In the Croupier Game, all of the Croupier’s survival supplies and spatial items will be Sealed.]

Back in The Card Tavern, Perry Yates winced at the latest game notification as if she had a toothache.

’Forget that the next game starts in just ten days—this time, they’re even restricting spatial items. Last time, it was just the supplies inside them.’

Perry was genuinely afraid that one day, they’d start restricting items and cards, too.

At the thought, Perry couldn’t help but shiver. She quickly muttered, "Spit, spit, spit... Bad things stay away, good things come my way."

’Since all spatial items are disabled, I don’t need to bother preparing anything else.’

As she was thinking this, Perry suddenly sensed someone knocking on the door of her residence.

Perry closed her eyes, transferring her consciousness completely to the Clone she had left at home.

Meanwhile, inside Perry’s house.

Perry slowly opened her eyes and walked toward the door.

Through the peephole, she could see a young man in a suit standing outside. He had bronze skin and wore black-framed glasses.

Opening the door, Perry asked, "Who are you looking for?"

"Someone," the young man said slowly.

Once inside, Chester Shelby quickly scanned the entire room.

The entire room was decorated in a simple European style—clean and sharp, yet elegant and romantic. It was the kind of decor most women would like.

"You don’t live here often, do you, Miss Yates? Your house looks very new."

Perry had little reaction to his words. "I just don’t spend much time in the living room," she said.

As she spoke, she pointed to the half-open bedroom door.

Following the direction of her finger, Chester Shelby saw the scene inside the bedroom.

Compared to the living room’s main palette of white and beige, the bedroom was far more colorful.

The room was filled with all sorts of stuffed dolls, a soft carpet covered the floor, and a huge, round bed took up two-thirds of the space. On the bed was an obviously comfortable nest built from a variety of soft pillows and blankets.

Closing the bedroom door, Perry looked at her visitor and asked, "You’re with the Survival Game Administration. What do you want with me?"

’The only people who would track me down the moment a game ends are the Alden Family and the Survival Game Administration.’

Chester Shelby pushed up the black-framed glasses on his face and said, "I’ve come on behalf of Captain Adler to invite you to join the First Squad."

Hearing Dylan Adler’s name, Perry’s expression was one of ’I knew it.’ However...

"I refuse."

As if he had expected her answer, Chester Shelby said unhurriedly, "Miss Yates, please don’t be so quick to refuse. Captain Adler knows you don’t like being tied down; otherwise, you would have chosen to join long ago. He wants to invite you to be an external support member for the First Squad."

"External support?"

Chester Shelby pushed up his glasses and explained, "To put it simply, you’d be a non-roster member drawing the salary of a full-time employee. You’d only take orders from Captain Adler, and of course, you would have the right to refuse.

"You know of the Three-Eyed Guardian, right? He answers the call to battle but not the summons of the court. Your position would be similar to his, only a little more impressive."

"Oh? Such generous terms. Your captain didn’t happen to fall in love with me at first sight during the game, did he?"

Chester Shelby: "..."

To be honest, when he first heard his captain’s request, he had suspected the same thing.

However, after seeing Perry Yates, Chester Shelby knew he had guessed wrong. The person in front of him was not his captain’s ideal type.

His captain had always been very particular, only liking women with large busts, slim waists, and long legs—the kind that basically only exist in photoshopped pictures.

The Perry Yates before him was attractive, no doubt, but she clearly wasn’t his captain’s type.

"I don’t understand. The game teleports us randomly to random locations. Why do you form squads?" Perry voiced her confusion.

At her question, Chester Shelby sighed and said, "A lot of things have been concealed and not made public, precisely to avoid causing panic among the general populace. However, before I came, Captain Adler gave me permission to reveal some of the truth to you, regardless of whether you agree to our offer."

After speaking, Chester Shelby pushed a stack of documents in front of Perry Yates.

"Take your time looking through these documents. And this is my business card. I hope you’ll consider it carefully. I look forward to your reply."

With that, Chester Shelby rose and left.

Only after hearing the door close did Perry Yates pick up the documents from the table and start to read.

The documents were mostly composed of various photographs with some written explanations.

"These things... exist on Cerulea?"

The photos in Perry’s hands showed all kinds of mutated animals and plants.

She then looked at the dates when these photos were taken.

Ever since the arrival of the survival games, these mutated animals and plants had been slowly appearing.

The first abnormalities appeared in insects.

At first, it was just that these insects began to grow much larger, but since there weren’t many, it didn’t arouse much suspicion.

Perry had some memory of this. She’d heard someone had caught a giant stag beetle, breaking the world record. The beetle was bought for a million, which had even sparked a brief bug-catching craze.

After the insects came various marine creatures, then plants, and finally, some of the larger animals.

This was especially true for zoo animals. After mutating, they held immense hostility toward humans. The plants, on the other hand, mostly attacked out of survival instinct.

Reading this, Perry finally remembered that not long after the survival games appeared, all the zoos and botanical gardens had closed down. Even much of the greenery along the roads had been cleared away. ’Ah, so it was because they mutated.’

The Survival Game Administration formed squads not only to deter other countries and domestic players, but also, and more importantly, to eliminate these mutated animals and plants when they weren’t in a game.

Perry Yates looked at the photos, then at her phone nearby, and was lost in thought.

「...」

Meanwhile, after Chester Shelby returned to his car, he saw Dylan Adler sitting in the passenger seat.

"Captain, why do you place so much importance on a young woman like her?"

"From our brief interaction, I can tell that this young woman, Perry Yates, comes from a well-off family. She exudes an air of indolence and arrogance—she’s not the type to be easily managed."

Hearing this, Dylan Adler recalled Perry Yates’s performance in the game. "Do you remember," he said, "how I once told you that some people are just born for survival games? Perry is one of them. You shouldn’t underestimate her."
