Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 222: Haisa 5After returning to her room, Perry Yates took a shower and lay on the bed. She didn’t bother with pajamas.
To be prepared for any sudden incidents during the night, Perry Yates had chosen to wear a set of comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothes instead.
She’d done it just as a precaution, never expecting she’d need it so soon.
In the dead of night, the soundly sleeping Perry Yates suddenly snapped her eyes open, instantly on high alert.
She smelled it—the faint, almost imperceptible scent of blood had suddenly appeared in the air.
Just then, Perry Yates saw a dark figure inside her room. She had no idea when it had appeared.
The effect was no different from waking up in the middle of the night to see a ghost.
Seeing this, Perry Yates shot up from her bed and decided to strike first. Countless vines erupted from all directions, rapidly closing in on the figure.
Mixed in with the vines were numerous Dodder Seeds. The moment they touched human flesh, they could drain a person dry instantly.
However, the intruder was clearly not to be trifled with.
Eight sharp blades suddenly materialized behind the figure, making short work of the surrounding vines and slicing them all apart.
CLICK. The room’s lights switched on.
The figure’s appearance was revealed to Perry Yates. It was the man she had met before.
But the man was in a sorry state. He looked like he had just come from a fierce battle, covered in injuries. One of his eyes was wounded, and a gash on his forehead was still bleeding.
As if oblivious to his wounds, the man appeared before Perry Yates in the blink of an eye. He tossed two cards in front of her and said in a low voice, "I know you’re a Dealer Player, too. Heal me, and these two cards are yours."
Staring at the two cards, Perry Yates’s first thought was, ’He’s not asking for a handout. This man has standards.’ Her second was to voice the question on her mind, "How did you know I can heal?"
Hearing her, the man said in a low voice, "Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t."
"Fine."
’For the sake of these two cards, I’ll drop it.’
Since spatial items were unusable, Perry Yates couldn’t access the Life Essence and Flesh Essence she had accumulated. She could only rely on the power her cards granted her to treat the man. This process would be slower, but fortunately, the Moonlight was good tonight.
"Take off your clothes first so I can see the wounds," Perry Yates said, her voice all business.
The man didn’t hesitate, briskly pulling off his shirt.
’I didn’t expect the man who looked so lean to be this built under his clothes. The muscles on his arms looked incredibly firm.’
After admiring his physique for a moment, Perry Yates refocused and began to diligently treat his wounds.
The man was covered in numerous deep wounds. Besides those clearly made by cold steel, two gashes had obviously been clawed by some kind of ferocious beast. Furthermore, all the wounds were contaminated with an unknown virus.
"These wounds are all contaminated with an unknown virus. It doesn’t seem to pose an immediate threat, but I’d still recommend we clear it out to avoid future complications. Of course, the choice is yours."
"However, if you want me to clear it, the two-card treatment fee won’t be enough."
The man didn’t dawdle. He readily produced two more cards. "Is this enough?"
"My, what a generous client!" Perry Yates said with a smile. She loved dealing with big spenders.
"Don’t you worry. Now that I’ve been paid, I guarantee you’ll be back to perfect health, without a single lingering issue. First, eat this candy."
With that, Perry Yates popped a small, candy-like ball into the man’s mouth.
As soon as the candy was in his mouth, the man felt an itching sensation from his wounds. They were healing. The process was slow, but he could definitely feel it.
Meanwhile, after stashing her payment, Perry Yates began to prepare the Antidote.
A flash of light emanated from her hand, and a syringe several times larger than a standard one materialized in her grasp.
She then used a knife to collect a tissue sample from the man’s wound, dropping it into the syringe.
Immediately, the syringe began to flash erratically, as if it had sensed something.
Perry Yates watched the flashing syringe for a moment before setting it aside. She turned back to the man and said, "The Antidote needs about half an hour to an hour to synthesize. I’ll treat your other wounds in the meantime."
’His wounds are so deep I can almost see bone. Good thing none of them are in a fatal location.’
An hour later, Perry Yates finished treating the last wound and let out a huge sigh of relief. By then, the Antidote had also finished synthesizing.
After injecting a portion of the Antidote into the man, Perry Yates finally relaxed. "Alright, all done."
"Why didn’t you inject all of it?"
The man stared at Perry Yates, his eyes clearly asking, ’Are you trying to skim some off the top?’
Seeing his expression, Perry Yates coughed a few times. "What I injected is enough. Too much wouldn’t be good for you. If it bothers you that much, I can pack up the rest for you to take with you."
At this, the man said nothing, but the harsh lines around his eyes softened considerably.
’Stingy.’
Perry Yates pouted, complaining internally.
After packing everything up, Perry Yates was ready to send this VIP guest on his way. Just before he left, she casually added, "Oh, right. Some people experience side effects after the Antidote injection, like hunger or drowsiness. They should disappear after two or three hours."
The words were barely out of Perry Yates’s mouth when the man, who had been about to leave, suddenly closed his eyes and passed out cold.
Usually, this is when the female lead would show off her quick reflexes, catch the falling male lead, and help him onto the bed.
Unfortunately, while Perry Yates was the female lead, he was not the male lead.
The moment the man started to fall, Perry Yates sidestepped out of the way. THUD. That was the sound of a body hitting the floor.
After checking to make sure he hadn’t broken anything, Perry Yates dragged him into the bathroom. Then she went back to her bed to get some proper sleep.
’Working so hard in the middle of the night... I’m dead tired.’
The next morning, the first thing Perry Yates did after waking up was check the bathroom. Finding it empty, she didn’t give the matter another thought.
As for the man from last night, at least she had now confirmed the identity of one Croupier. And...
Perry Yates’s hand swiped lightly at her waist, and a silver card shimmering with golden light appeared in her hand.
[Talent Skill: Foreknowledge

Perry Yates was extremely tempted by this Talent. Unfortunately, her Talent slots were already full. If she wanted a new one, she would have to discard an old one.
