Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch
Chapter 123: The Unspoken PactIn the quiet hours before dawn, the research facility lay under a blanket of total stillness. The low blue emergency lights hummed along the ceiling conduits, casting soft reflections across the metallic corridors.
Inside the central control hub, Lin Qing stood before the security master terminal. Her fingers moved swiftly across the interface, pulling up the audio feeds and video logs recorded outside Lin Tao’s holding room over the past forty-eight hours.
As the playbacks scrubbed through, she listened to Lin Tao’s smooth, deceitful voice—poisoning Lu Ning’s mind with stories of fabricated torture, claiming he was set to be executed soon, and painting Lin Qing as a heartless monster.
Lin Qing’s expression remained unreadable, her clear eyes cool and calculating. She skipped forward to midnight, watching the video playback of Han Ye stepping out of the shadows, his dark power pinning Lin Tao back into the cell before retrieving Dr. Zhou’s stolen keycard.
Han Ye had been entirely correct in his assessment. Exposing Lu Ning to Captain Lu Feng right before a high-stakes expedition into the valley would destroy squad morale and create unnecessary friction. But leaving Lin Tao’s holding room access standard was an unacceptable security vulnerability.
Stepping away from the terminal, Lin Qing walked down into the lower wing. Her shoes made no sound against the floorboards.
The air in the lower sector was distinctly colder, smelling faintly of old chemical reagents. She stopped outside door of Lin Tao’s holding room. The digital panel beside the frame glowed a steady, stubborn red.
Inside, hearing soft footsteps halt outside his room, Lin Tao scrambled toward the glass window. His face was pale, his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night of panic and rage following his failed escape. When he saw Lin Qing standing on the other side of the glass holding a recalibration tablet, a surge of frantic desperation broke through his pride.
He pressed his hands flat against the glass, his voice cracking. "Lin Qing! Lin Qing, wait! Please, just listen to me for one minute!"
Lin Qing didn’t even look up at him. She plugged her diagnostic lead into the digital panel, overriding the room’s access codes to erase Dr. Zhou’s clearance level permanently.
"Lin Qing, we’re family!" Lin Tao begged, his tone thick with desperate, trembling emotion. "We’re cousins! Blood! You can’t leave me locked in this dark room like an animal while the world rots outside! I know we had our differences in the past, but we share the same bloodline!"
Lin Qing continued tapping commands into her tablet, her face as still as carved marble. "Your bloodline didn’t stop you from trying to use a harmless teenager to breach our base."
Lin Tao flinched, his jaw tightening before he swallowed hard and pressed closer to the door. "Listen to me! I have something you need to know—something about your family!"
Lin Qing’s fingers paused over the screen for a fraction of a second before resuming her inputs. "I have no interest in anything you have to say."
"It’s about your parents!" Lin Tao yelled, his voice rising in pitch as he saw her ignoring him. "Your mother and your stepfather! They didn’t die during the initial outbreak in the city!"
The diagnostic tablet beeped, acknowledging the deletion of the medical wing keycard clearance. Lin Qing finally raised her eyes, looking through the glass with cold indifference.
"I saw them!" Lin Tao pressed on frantically, thinking he had finally struck a nerve. "It was during the second week of the apocalypse! I was fleeing through the northern commercial district with a group of survivors, and I saw their vehicle at a barricade! I tried to reach them, but the crowd pushed us apart! They survived the first wave, Lin Qing! They could still be alive out there in one of the survivor camps!"
Lin Tao leaned his forehead against the cold glass, tears of panic brimming in his eyes. "Let me out, Lin Qing! I know the exact place where I saw them! I can lead you to them! I swear on my life I’ll help you find them, just open this door!"
He waited, panting heavily, expecting to see a flicker of hope, shock, or emotional turmoil on her face.
Instead, Lin Qing simply stared back at him, her eyes completely dead.
In the memories of the original host of this body—her mother and stepfather had been vile, selfish, and abusive parasites. They had extracted every bit of financial and emotional value from her, treating her as nothing more than a convenient asset before abandoning her when things turned dark. To Lin Qing, their survival wasn’t a miracle to be pursued; it was a matter of total irrelevance. Whether they were rotting in a ditch or breathing in a distant camp meant less than nothing to her.
Seeing her absolute lack of reaction, Lin Tao’s desperate facade crumbled into pure, violent frustration. The pitiful cousin vanished, replaced by an ugly, bared-teeth scowl.
"You ungrateful, cold-blooded bitch!" Lin Tao screamed, slamming his fist hard against the reinforced glass. "You don’t care about your own mother?! You’re a sociopath! You’re standing there acting like a saint while you keep me caged like a dog! When Han Zheng realizes what kind of heartless monster you really are, he’ll throw you out into the snow to freeze!"
Lin Qing finished typing the final biometric override code. She detached her lead, tucked the diagnostic tablet under her arm, and met his furious gaze with a terrifyingly calm expression.
"Keep shouting, Lin Tao," Lin Qing said, her voice smooth and devoid of heat. "Because if you scream another insult, or try to manipulate another person in this facility, I will come inside that room myself. And I will personally cut your tongue out so you never speak another word again."
Lin Tao’s mouth snapped shut. The sheer, lethal certainty in her quiet tone chilled him to the marrow. He backed away from the glass step by step, his chest heaving in silence, completely silenced by the monster standing on the other side.
CLACK.
The room’s lock engaged with a heavy, multi-bolt thud. The digital panel flashed blue, locking the door behind a dual-biometric protocol that required either Lin Qing’s direct retinal scan or Han Zheng’s master authorization.
Lin Qing turned on her heel and walked away without looking back.

By five in the morning, the primary vehicle bay was alive with activity. Halogen work lights illuminated the vast concrete hanger, reflecting off the steel plating of two heavy armored squad carriers.
Soilders were making final adjustments to the engine belts, while men from Captain Lu Feng’s Iron Falcon squad loaded crates of winter rations, medical supplies, and heavy ammunition belts into the rear cargo bays. The scent of diesel exhaust, warm gun oil, and heated metal filled the air.
Near the central supply desk, Lu Ning stood in complete silence, folding medical bandages under the watchful eye of Dr. Zhou.
Her face was deathly pale, dark circles shadowing her eyes from a night of absolute terror. Every time the heavy metallic doors of the bay creaked, she flinched violently.
The terrifying memory of five-year-old Han Ye standing over her with blades of writhing shadow had completely broken her self-righteous ego. Combined with the sickening realization that Lin Tao had used her as a brainless tool, she was consumed by immense shame and quiet, paralyzing fear.
She didn’t dare glance toward Han Zheng or Lin Qing. She worked with her head down, moving like a terrified ghost, desperate to remain invisible.
A few paces away, Captain Lu Feng was tightening the straps of his tactical vest beside Han Zheng. He checked the action on his assault rifle, pulling the bolt back to inspect the chamber before letting it snap forward with a clean metallic click.
"The team is fully prepped, Commander," Lu Feng said, offering Han Zheng a genuine smile. "Thermal cloaks are mounted on all two vehicles. If those mutated beasts in the valley hunt by heat, they won’t pick us up until we’re right on top of them."
"Good," Han Zheng replied, adjusting his heavy gloves. "The commercial district down in the valley has probably been untouched since the initial frost. We grab whatever useful stuff we can find and we pull back before dusk. No unnecessary risks."
"Understood," Lu Feng nodded. He glanced across the bay, his eyes landing briefly on his sister folding bandages near Dr. Zhou.
A soft expression touched his face. "I have to admit, Han Zheng... I was worried about Lu Ning when we first arrived. She’s always been bratty and stubborn. But look at her today—up before dawn, working silently without complaining once. I think being in a secure place like this is finally helping her grow up."
Han Zheng followed Lu Feng’s gaze, noticing how Lu Ning’s hands visibly trembled as she folded the cloth. He didn’t know the exact details of what had transpired at midnight, but his sharp instincts caught the subtle, unnatural tension radiating from her.
"She is staying occupied," Han Zheng said smoothly, keeping his voice neutral. "That is best for everyone."
"Yeah," Lu Feng chuckled, completely oblivious to the dramatic irony of his words. "I’m just glad she’s safe and behaving herself inside these walls. Gives me peace of mind heading out into that freezing hellhole."
---
As six in the morning approached, the massive doors at the mouth of the loading bay began to slowly groan open.
The expedition team mounted their carriers. Engines roared to life, their heavy exhaust pipes coughing dark clouds into the freezing draft.
Han Zheng stood near the edge of the boarding ramp, taking a final look back toward the interior corridor.
Lin Qing walked up to him, wrapped in her dark winter coat, with Han Ye standing quietly at her side. Han Zheng looked down at his wife, his sharp eyes picking up the subtle, heightened vigilance in her stance—the calm, predatory edge of a commander who had secured her perimeter.
He didn’t ask what happened during the night. He didn’t need to. He trusted Lin Qing completely.
"The lower sector lock has been upgraded," Lin Qing said softly, her voice carrying only to his ears over the roar of the idling engines. "Everything inside is completely contained."
Han Zheng offered a faint, approving smirk. He reached out, his gloved hand resting gently against the side of her face for a brief, warm moment. "Keep the base locked tight while we’re out."
"Always," Lin Qing replied quietly.
Han Zheng looked down at Han Ye. The little boy met his father’s gaze with steady calm, offering a small nod of farewell. Han Zheng nodded back.
"Mount up!" Lu Feng shouted from the lead carrier’s hatch.
Han Zheng turned, stepped onto the armored truck’s side plate, and pulled himself inside.
With a deep rumble of heavy treads, the two trucks rolled forward, cutting through the snowdrift and disappearing into the white fog of the frozen valley.
---
The moment the taillights vanished into the snow, Lin Qing raised her hand toward the main control console.
"Seal the blast doors," she ordered firmly.
With a heavy, grinding vibration that shook the concrete floor, the massive blast doors closed tightly, cutting off the howling wind and sealing the facility back into warm, impenetrable silence.
Lin Qing turned around, her dark eyes sweeping across the remaining personnel in the bay. Her presence was cold, sharp, and absolute—the undisputed commander of the sanctuary.
"Dr. Zhou, maintain medical supervision," Lin Qing commanded, her voice ringing clearly through the hangar. "Lieutenant Chen, secure the secondary armory and re-calibrate the internal thermal sensors. Effective immediately, lower administrative wings are on total lockdown. No movement without direct clearance."
"Understood!" Lieutenant Chen replied instantly, standing at attention.
Lu Ning shrank back into her chair, kept utterly compliant by the invisible weight of the command.
Lin Qing walked slowly toward the upper balcony overlooking the central atrium. She stood at the railing, looking down over the quiet fortress. Beside her, Han Ye walked up, resting his small arms against the cold steel bar, staring out at the sealed facility.
The expedition had departed into the dangerous unknown, but here inside the mountain, the sanctuary was locked, secure, and under total control.
