A few minutes earlier, inside an abandoned building several blocks from the battlefield, Leo opened his eyes.
A faint darkness flickered within his pupils before fading away.
He felt the change rushing through his body. His Void Energy ran denser. His physical strength had surged. And most importantly... he had broken through two small realms.
"It seems I’ve broken through two small realms."
"And I gained a new skill as well."
Leo pulled out his Origin Card and checked his status.

Leo stared at the numbers, his gaze eventually landing on his newest skill.
Voidfall (Rare)
A Void-element area attack that compresses and detonates concentrated Void Energy at a chosen location. Inflicts heavy area damage and weakens the stability of affected targets. High energy consumption.
Leo raised an eyebrow.
"Not bad."
He had wanted an area-of-effect skill for a long time. With this, dealing with large groups of enemies would be much easier.
A thought crossed his mind, bringing his attention to his Zen Points.
"System."
"When did my Zen Points become so high?"
The system’s mechanical voice answered without delay.
[Host, the system gains Zen Points whenever you kill.]
[Zombies provide a small amount of Zen Points.]
[However, the aliens you have killed are a much richer source of Zen Points.]
Leo nodded.
"So that’s how it works."
He eyed his massive supply of points.
"I see."
Stowing the Origin Card, Leo opened the Miscellaneous Store. His excitement faded in an instant.
Most of the available items were Common and Uncommon goods: food, drinks, basic supplies, and even alcohol. Nothing stood out as particularly useful.
Still... there was no reason to leave resources on the table.
Leo spent 2,030 Zen Points, buying everything that seemed remotely useful. The items vanished, transferring straight into his Void Pocket.
Preparations complete, Leo stretched his arms. The rumble of explosions and gunfire echoed in the distance. He turned toward the battlefield.
"Alright."
"Let’s go see what’s happening."
A faint smile touched his face.
"Who knows..."
"Maybe I can fish out some more Zen Points and cards while I’m there."
Leo pulled the hood of his Robe of Shroud over his head, hiding his face in shadows. A split second later, his figure dissolved into the air.
He reappeared on the rooftop of another abandoned building overlooking the fighting. Pulling out his binoculars, he watched the chaos below.
The first thing that caught his eye wasn’t the horde of zombies. It was Nina. Or rather, the giant machine she rode.
Leo’s eyebrows rose.
"That’s..."
A vehicle had shifted into a massive combat mech. It stomped across the dirt, unleashing a storm of bullets.
Leo stared in mild awe.
"The Freedom Convoy’s technology is pretty impressive."
Before he could watch any longer, a new threat dominated the sky. A gigantic eyeball hovered above the battlefield, its enormous body covered in hundreds of smaller pupils.
Leo’s expression hardened.
"What the hell is that?"
He watched as the tide of battle shifted.
An unseen force lifted Nina’s mech into the air. The massive machine twisted at unnatural angles before crashing hard into the ground.
Leo narrowed his eyes.
"Nina!"
Leaving no room for hesitation, he stowed his binoculars. His body vanished from the rooftop.
When Leo materialized near the battlefield, total chaos had taken over. Nina lay unconscious. Aldina could barely stand. Worse, a pack of Brutes charged straight toward them.
Leo’s eyes swept over the incoming monsters, and a thought sparked in his mind. His new skill.
He raised one hand. Shadows pooled in his palm, forming a small black sphere that rotated without a sound.
It wasn’t large, but the second it took shape, the surrounding air grew heavy.
Leo aimed it at the charging Brutes.
"Let’s see how useful this new skill is."
His eyes narrowed.
"Voidfall."
The black sphere blinked out of existence. A fraction of a second later, it reappeared high above the pack of Brutes. The orb expanded, swelling just before—
BOOM!
A crushing, invisible force crashed down from the sky. The Brutes’ massive bodies sank under the sheer weight.
THUD!
Several of the monsters dropped to one knee. Their thick muscles trembled, straining against the unseen force pressing them into the dirt.
One of the Brutes tried to stand. Its legs shook with violent tremors, the burden on its back seeming to grow heavier by the second.
Crack...
Thin cuts split open across its tough skin. Then another. And another. Small lines of blood trickled down the Brute’s gray flesh.
Still, the monster’s body was far too tough to be crushed outright. The rest of the pack fought against the pressure. A few managed to stay on their feet, though their steps dragged at a snail’s pace.
Leo watched from the shadows of his hood.
"So that’s the effect."
He felt the massive drain on his Void Energy. The result wasn’t as destructive as he had hoped; it couldn’t wipe out powerful enemies in one hit. Instead... it pinned them down and chipped away at their bodies.
Leo nodded to himself.
"Not bad."
"Though, it’s weaker than I expected."
"But..."
"It’s perfect for controlling a battlefield."
The Brutes kept fighting the pressure, their rushing charge reduced to a crawl.
And that was enough.
Leo stepped forward.
The Brutes struggled beneath the crushing weight of Voidfall. They moved as if wading through deep mud. Shallow cuts covered their massive bodies, yet they still fought to stay upright.
Leo calmly reached for the two katanas at his waist. The steel rang out as the blades slid free from their scabbards. A faint black aura crept over the metal, blending the sharp edges into the surrounding darkness.
Void Edge.
Leo lowered his stance. With a rush of wind, his figure vanished.
The first Brute barely turned its head before Leo appeared at its side. His katana sliced clean across its throat. Blood sprayed into the air as the monster collapsed.
Leo didn’t miss a beat. He twisted his body, crossing both blades in a fluid strike. Two more Brutes dropped to the dirt.
The remaining monsters roared in defiance, swinging their heavy arms to fight back. But the intense pressure of Voidfall kept their reactions sluggish. Leo slipped between them like a shadow. He wasted no movement. Every slash was precise, targeting a vital point. He brought down one Brute by severing its knee, then swept his blade through its neck before the creature even hit the ground.
Another monster threw a massive fist at his face. Leo ducked under the attack and drove a katana straight through its chest. The beast fell with a heavy thud.
Only the final Brute stood. Fighting past the invisible force holding it down, it unleashed a furious roar and charged.
Leo stepped forward to meet it, raising both swords. He swung, sending two black arcs flashing through the air.
The Brute froze in its tracks. A thin line appeared across its thick neck. A moment later, its enormous body crashed to the earth.
As the last monster died, the black sphere hanging above the battlefield trembled and faded away. The oppressive air lifted. Voidfall had ended.
Leo let out a soft breath, his eyes passing over the fallen corpses.
"Not bad."
He guided his katanas back into their sheaths.
" But the skill consumes a great amount of Void Energy "
He could feel the empty ache inside him; a full third of his Void Energy was gone from that single move.
