The two of them charged forward, closing the gap. Oshu raised his spear mid-stride.
"Golden Martial Arts—Piercing Strike!"
He thrust the weapon and let it fly. The spear shot through the air like a golden streak, tearing straight through Zeltan’s chest.
Oshu narrowed his eyes. Something felt wrong. The attack had connected far too easily, and his bad feeling proved right. Zeltan’s body collapsed into a puddle of blood, splashing against the dirt. Oshu stepped forward, snatched up his spear, and scanned his surroundings, fully on guard.
High above the frontline soldiers, the air shimmered as Zeltan materialized. A blood-red orb pooled and grew just above his open palm. Oshu stared at the strange sphere, his guard raised.
"Blood Art—Hail of Lances!"
The orb burst apart. Countless droplets warped into hundreds of sharp lances, raining down on the frontline soldiers like a crimson storm. The deadly rain struck the men and their Wave Colliders. Several soldiers carrying the Mini Wave Colliders were pierced clean through.
Adrian was no exception. Spikes of blood tore into his body, while another smashed directly into his machine.
"Damn it!"
The Mini Wave Collider shattered into pieces.
Zeltan looked toward the battlefield and shouted.
"Now!"
An invisible ripple pulsed outward from the giant eyeball aliens. The entire battlefield shifted. The once-chaotic zombies fell into line, moving together like a disciplined army.
All around, soldiers dropped their weapons to clutch their heads.
"Agh!"
"What’s happening?!"
A sharp pain hijacked their minds. One after another, the men lost control of their own limbs and turned their weapons on each other. The frontline devolved into complete chaos.
Oshu watched the madness unfold, his face turning grim.
"It was smart to destroy the machines..." He glanced toward the giant eyeball alien. "But your plan is still flawed."
"This giant eyeball has nothing that can protect itself against me."
"Once he dies, your little trick will naturally become meaningless."
Giving Zeltan no time to respond, Oshu vanished from his spot. He flashed across the battlefield, closing the distance to the giant eyeball alien in a heartbeat. Reaching the Blood Altar, Oshu raised his spear to deliver the killing blow.
High above, Zeltan remained floating in the air. There was no trace of worry on his face; instead, a wide grin stretched across his lips.
Just as Oshu arrived at the altar, Zeltan muttered under his breath.
"Finally got you."
He pressed his hands together.
"Blood Bone Soul Sacrifice—Activate!"
A gigantic magic circle flared to life beneath the feet of Oshu and the giant eyeball alien. Ancient symbols glowed across its surface. Oshu’s heart sank as dread washed over him. He had stepped right into a trap. Pushing hard off the ground, he tried to leap out of the circle’s reach.
BOOM!
A thick, blood-red chain erupted from the altar. Moving faster than Oshu could react, the heavy metal pierced straight through his chest. At the same time, the other end of the chain shot through the giant eyeball alien. Even the massive creature seemed shocked by the betrayal.
Above the altar, a figure made entirely of blood slowly formed, sitting cross-legged in the air. Oshu’s eyes narrowed through the pain. As the crimson liquid settled and took shape, the features became recognizable. It looked exactly like Ars.
Down below, the soldiers stopped attacking each other. The mind control vanished, and the zombie horde broke apart into a disorganized mess once again. Everyone on the battlefield stopped, staring at the bizarre scene in confusion.
Zeltan drifted lower, looking down at the trapped spearman.
"Did you think this was the extent of our abilities?" His grin widened. "This entire farce was designed to bring you out and capture you."
Oshu’s face fell.
Zeltan continued.
"The Blood Sacrificial Chain is now attached to your soul through your Aether Core."
"You can’t gather any strength now."
"The sacrificial chain will slowly drain all your power..." His eyes narrowed. "...including your soul."
"And all of that power will be transferred into Ars’s body."
Oshu gritted his teeth.
Zeltan’s voice dripped with amusement.
"Your only option now is to wait for death."
Oshu glared at him, forcing his words out through the pain.
"Then what about the eyeball?"
"Isn’t he with you?"
Zeltan scoffed.
"How could a slave who is merely used as a porter to carry supplies be considered part of the Abyssal Army?"
"He was simply lucky that his abilities proved useful for controlling the horde."
"He and his clan members became arrogant."
"They actually thought they could become masters of their own fate."
Zeltan’s expression turned ice-cold.
"But the Lord simply felt that dealing with such a cur was beneath him."
"So he allowed them to dance around a little longer."
A sinister smile crept across Zeltan’s face.
"But do you know the most interesting part?"
"Once this sacrifice is complete, the new Ars will inherit both of your abilities..."
"And your memories."
Oshu’s pupils shrank in horror.
"All the secrets the Rizen Group possesses."
"Its strength."
"Its weaknesses."
"Everything will be laid bare before us."
Zeltan’s smile stretched further.
"And then..."
"The Lord will crush the Rizen Group once and for all."
Panic set in. Oshu fought against the blood chains, thrashing with whatever strength he had left. But the more he moved, the tighter the chains wrapped around his body.
Zeltan watched him suffer, looking thoroughly satisfied.
"Enjoy your final struggle."
He turned his back on the altar and looked down at the remaining fighters.
"Meanwhile..."
"I’ll take care of all these ants desperately struggling to hold on to their lives."
Zeltan drifted higher into the sky and raised both hands. A gigantic blood-red orb began to pool high above the battlefield, pulling in the ambient blood energy like a magnet. The sphere swelled, growing larger and heavier by the second. On the ground, the soldiers could only stare up in terror.
Right as the technique neared its peak, a voice echoed right beside Zeltan.
"Gregory Secret Technique—Majestic Thunder!"
Zeltan’s eyes widened in shock. Before he could even turn his head—
RUMBLE!
The dark clouds above violently tore open. A massive bolt of lightning crashed down from the heavens.
BOOOOOOM!
The blinding flash struck Zeltan and his gigantic blood orb at the exact same time. The crushing force blasted him out of the sky, sending him slamming into the earth. The entire battlefield shook violently from the impact, throwing dust and debris high into the air.
For a brief, heavy moment—
Everything fell completely silent.
