While Zeltan forged his enormous blood-red orb and Valentine gathered thunder to strike him, the battle raged elsewhere.

Grandpa Jiro lifted his gaze to the sky. Distant flashes of lightning lit up his weathered face, and he shook his head with a heavy sigh.

"My, my... This battlefield is getting more and more dangerous."

He turned his attention back to the two one-horned aliens standing before him. Not a single scratch marked their skin. Jiro, however, was covered in cuts. Blood trickled down his arms, dripped past his brow, and stained his clothes.

The aliens grinned. They were relying on their raw physical strength, waiting for exhaustion to claim the old swordsman.

Jiro glanced at the blood slicking his arm and let out another breath.

"Looks like playtime is over." He tightened his grip around the hilt. "Let’s cut you two down quickly. Then I’ll take the kids and get out of here." His eyes narrowed, focusing on his foes. "I have a feeling there are still more surprises waiting for us. And I don’t feel like fighting to the death for the military."

One of the aliens barked out a harsh, grating laugh.

"Hahaha! What are you muttering about, swordsman? Just drop dead already. That’s the only possible outcome for you."

Jiro raised his blade. His stance shifted, shedding the relaxed posture he had carried since the fight began.

"If you two survive this..." His gaze hardened into something lethal. "Then I’ll accept my fate."

BOOM!

Jiro’s aura exploded outward in a shockwave of raw power. Heat warped the air, blurring the space around him as the baked ground beneath his boots fractured. He lowered his sword a fraction of an inch.

"Furnace World..." His voice remained dead calm. "Molecular Heating."

WHOOM!

An invisible domain rippled across the dirt, swallowing Jiro and both one-horned aliens in its grasp. The air inside the zone grew stifling. At first, the creatures stood their ground, unbothered.

"Hahaha! Is this your trump card?" one of them laughed. "You think raising the temperature will do anything? You clearly don’t know what kind of place the Abyssal Realm is. This level of heat is nothing. It’s like taking a comfortable bath to us."

His companion nodded in agreement. But a second later, the laughter died.

"...Huh?"

A wet, blistering sound bubbled up from the dirt. Sizzle... Sizzle...

One of the aliens looked down. The soles of his feet were melting. His hardened skin turned soft, fusing to the boiling earth.

"What?!" He wrenched his leg upward. As his foot broke contact with the soil, thick strands of molten flesh stretched out, tearing with a sickening snap. "What is this?!"

His companion stared at his own feet, panic replacing his previous arrogance. The heat wasn’t just burning their skin; it was cooking them from the inside out, breaking their flesh down down to the very molecules. The scorching air even evaporated the blood coating Jiro’s body, sending thin trails of white steam rising from his wounds.

The aliens stared through the haze in pure disbelief. "This isn’t ordinary heat..."

Jiro offered no response. His eyes locked onto the opening their panic had created. That single moment of distraction was all he needed. His knuckles turned white around the hilt, and he vanished from his spot.

SHING!

"Takami Sword Style—"

Before the aliens could even turn their heads, a brilliant crescent-shaped slash carved through the blazing domain.

"Sun Arc."

Jiro reappeared several paces behind them. He stood like a statue, his sword already resting deep within its sheath. For a long second, nothing happened. The two creatures just stood there.

THUD! THUD!

Two severed heads hit the dirt. Their headless bodies swayed. Glowing, fiery cracks spread across their ruined flesh, and with a roaring WHOOSH, the corpses ignited. The intense heat consumed them, reducing bone and tissue to ash in mere seconds.

A gust of wind swept over the ruined earth, carrying the ashes away. The crushing heat of Jiro’s Furnace World faded, leaving a heavy silence in its wake.

"Cough!"

Jiro bent forward, his chest heaving.

"Cough! Cough! Cough!" A mouthful of dark blood spilled from his lips, staining the dust. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, drawing in ragged, heavy breaths. Glancing at the red smear on his palm, he let out a tired sigh.

"Too much..." He forced himself to stand straight, ignoring the ache in his bones. "Too much for this old body to handle." A faint, weary smile touched his lips. "Looks like I’ve been slacking off on my training lately."

Adjusting the scabbard at his hip, he turned his gaze toward the dust clouds in the distance.

"Now... Let’s get those kids and leave this crazy battlefield."

With steady steps, he set off toward the spot where Leo was holding the line for Aldina and Nina.

Across the battlefield, William drove the mechanical-armed man backward.

The tide of the fight had turned. Early in their clash, high-caliber bullets tore into William’s flesh. That advantage faded fast. William was adapting. With every exchange, his skin grew thicker, forming a dense armor. Rounds that once pierced him now bounced off with barely a scratch.

The mechanical-armed man narrowed his eyes. "He’s adapting to my attacks..."

Worse still, William had absorbed the one-eyed alien’s mental strike. A wave of unseen force washed over the area. The mechanical-armed man’s vision blurred as a crushing pain split his skull. His targeting system flickered, glitching as he fought to stay conscious.

William himself was the bigger problem. He left no pattern to analyze. No set technique. No rhythm. He fought like a cornered beast. He lunged, clawed, bit, and twisted, striking from blind spots. Whenever the mechanical-armed man shifted tactics, William matched him. Whenever a new weapon appeared, William found a counter.

As the minutes dragged on, William grew unstoppable. A chilling realization hit the man. He wasn’t fighting an opponent learning his moves. He was fighting a creature evolving in real time to kill him.

Elsewhere, Grandpa Jiro reached Leo. The old swordsman stepped right into the fray, carving a path through the surrounding horde.

SHING!

A zombie’s head spun through the air. Another body hit the dirt a heartbeat later.

Grandpa Jiro glanced at Leo, his sword a blur of effortless strikes.

"Hey, kid."

"How’s it going?"

He sliced through a rotting neck.

"And why haven’t you run away yet?"

Leo’s expression darkened beneath his hood.

"Don’t ask me."

"Ask yourself why one of your convoy members has such a serious mental illness."

Grandpa Jiro paused, then burst out laughing.

"Hahaha!"

"I see."

He studied the ice dome shielding Nina and Aldina. The smile faded from his face.

"I don’t like this place."

"I have a bad feeling about what’s coming next."

He pointed his blade at the frozen barrier.

"You carry little Nina."

"I’ll carry the ice lady."

"Let’s get out of here."

Before Leo could answer, a cold voice drifted from inside the ice dome.

"Over my dead body."

Grandpa Jiro’s eyebrow twitched. He stared at the frost-covered surface.

"Little lady..."

"This really isn’t the time for this."

Leo cut in.

"Leave her alone."

"I have a plan."

Grandpa Jiro glanced at him.

"A plan?"

Before he could ask anything else—

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

A blaring horn cut through the chaos of the battlefield. The blast was loud enough to make nearby soldiers stop and turn. Frontline troops stared at the source in pure confusion.

Then, voices broke the silence.

"Move!"

"Get out of the way!"

The soldiers scrambled in every direction.

BOOOOM!!

A reinforced barricade shattered into pieces. Chunks of concrete and twisted metal rained down as a massive dust cloud engulfed the road. A towering shape burst through the smoke.

The soldiers stared in shock as a familiar silhouette cleared the wreckage. The Apocalyptic Truck. Its reinforced grill plowed through the remaining debris, roaring straight into the heart of the battlefield.

Leo’s eyes lit up beneath his hood, and a faint smile touched his lips.

"About time you showed up."

As the heavy engine revved closer, Leo turned toward Grandpa Jiro.
