Valerian walked back to the campfire, the cold expression completely gone and replaced by the charming smile from before.
As he got closer to the group, they started to notice him and look at him with confusion.
"Did you just leave with Kara?"
One of the male soldiers asked skeptically, to which Valerian just smiled and moved over to Marta.
Standing in front of the seated Marta, Valerian looked down on her with a kind smile. He moved his hand closer and began to lightly caress her cheek; Marta was flustered, but she didn’t pull away.
Valerian moved his head closer to her feline ear and, in a low and seductive whisper, he said:
"Kara wants you to join us, so what do you say? Want to have some fun?"
Marta’s face became red and she couldn’t find words for a reply. She just looked into Valerian’s deep, slitted, cosmic purple eyes and got sucked inside them. Like in a trance, she answered in a similarly low voice:
"Yes, I want to."
Getting the answer, Valerian took her hand and pulled her up, and in front of the eyes of the other male soldiers, he guided her like Kara before to the tents.
"Tsk, what a bastard."
"Yeah, who does he think he is just because he has a somewhat good-looking face?"
As they were trash-talking Valerian, he walked with Marta’s hand in tow to the same spot he took Kara.
And like before, he turned around to her; this time he didn’t even let her talk as the space around her neck fractured and the life left her eyes.
He quickly and quietly stored her head and body inside his pocket dimension, and walked back to the campfire, making sure none of the male soldiers that were at the same fire as the two beast women saw him.
While Arthur quietly made his way through the tents and killed anyone he could, Valerian walked in the open from fire to fire, inviting all the female soldiers to his tent with the promise of a magical night, just for them to lose their heads the second no one was watching.
Using this method, he had already killed over 10 of the female soldiers, as they were too smitten by his looks to realize the fact that they had never seen him before. And to the male soldiers, he was just a young, good-looking beastman looking for women to spend the night with.
As Valerian left one of the scenes where he killed another one of the soldiers, he ran into Arthur, who had just left a tent a few meters away. They both looked at each other; Valerian gestured with his head to move to the side, and Arthur nodded back and moved to where Valerian led him.
Valerian walked behind him, and when they reached the outer parts of the camp with no one watching, Valerian began to talk.
"How are you holding up?"
It was a surprisingly considerate question; after all, he knew that killing someone wouldn’t be easy for Arthur.
"It’s fine. The first one was the hardest, but now I’m fine."
Valerian nodded.
"Good, how many did you get until now?"
Arthur flashed a somewhat proud grin.
"I killed 23 of them, most of them were asleep."
With a triumphant smile, Valerian told him his kill count.
"That’s too bad, you lost! I got 30!"
Arthur clicked his tongue at his loss.
"I saw you walking among them, how the fuck did you manage that?"
Valerian pointed at his horns.
"They think I’m some subspecies of the beastkin, and then I just seduce the female soldiers and kill them."
Arthur looked at Valerian with a blank face.
"You ’seduced’ them? I’m telling that to Seraphine."
Valerian’s face dropped and panic filled his whole body.
"No! I didn’t ’seduce’ them, I made them think we were going to sleep together, but killed them before they could even touch me! Don’t you dare tell her anything else!"
But Valerian’s complaint fell on deaf ears, as Arthur promised himself to most definitely tell Seraphine about Valerian’s seductions.
"What’s the plan now? Do we just keep going until all of them are dead?"
Valerian fell back into his serious face at the question, but didn’t forget the thing about Seraphine and made plans to, if needed, force Arthur not to tell her.
’Maybe he takes bribes?’
But that’s beside the point.
"We took out more than half the camp. I think that we can kill the rest with large-scale attacks before the leaders come out, but make sure not to use too much mana."
Arthur nodded at the plan.
"Do you want to start?"
Valerian looked at Arthur from the side of his head with a dismissive wave, already walking back to the fires.
"You’re the one with the new bloodline, so go wild."
Arthur sighed, already preparing his first large-scale spell after gaining his bloodline.
’Let’s put on a show.’
With that, he moved back between the tents to prepare his attack.
Valerian, on the other hand, leisurely walked back to the fires and sat down around the first campfire, where he took Kara and Marta from.
The male soldiers were mildly surprised to see him again, but at this point, it had been more than an hour, and they just assumed that Valerian took on more than he could chew with the two women and was all out of stamina.
The thought gave them a feeling of satisfaction, as they thought they had found a blemish in the perfect image of Valerian.
"Back already? Those two were too much for you?"
Valerian walked over to one of the logs around the fire and sat down, taking an apple from his spatial storage, not bothering to hide anything at this point, taking a bite from the juicy apple.
"Not really, I threw them away after I was finished with them."
The others looked at him with hostile eyes; yes, they were dissatisfied with the situation, but they wouldn’t allow some new recruit to talk like that about their comrades.
"Hey, you better watch your mouth, kid."
Valerian just looked at him and took one of the sticks around the campfire that was used to grill meat and stabbed it into his apple, holding it over the fire.
"Why? What are you gonna do about it?"
Now they were really mad; not only did this guy take away both of the girls, he then insulted them and even then showed such open disrespect towards them.
"I will show you, you piece of shit!"
The soldier stood up in a fury, but Valerian just continued to sit, taking the apple off the fire, not even bothering to look up at the angry beastman; he just took a bite from the roasted apple.
His face contorted in disgust, and he spat the apple pieces at the soldier’s face.
"That’s disgusting, who would eat that?"
That was the last straw; now they only saw red. The soldier with apple pieces on his face took his sword from the scabbard and swung down on Valerian.
Valerian just casually looked up at the incoming blade, not bothering to even move his hands.
The soldier thought he got him; he was really prepared to kill him on the spot. But as his blade got closer, it stopped. It wasn’t intercepted by another blade or a mana barrier; it simply stopped mid-air a few centimeters away from Valerian’s bored face.
"Huh?!"
By now, the other soldiers were looking at the confrontation, wanting to see a show.
Valerian swung his hand in a casual motion, like he was swatting away a fly, and then space split.
It wasn’t flashy or loud; it was precise. That was the essence of space magic: precision. On the soldier that was still standing with his sword only centimeters away from Valerian’s head, fine red horizontal lines formed.
For a moment, nothing happened and the others just looked at them in confusion, wanting to see a fight but only getting the standoff.
But then it happened: the soldier began to split into pieces; everywhere where the lines ran, a precise cut in space was executed.
Like a broken toy, the pieces of the soldier fell to the ground in a wet and silent splash.
No one knew what to say, if there was something to say; in front of their eyes, one of them just split into pieces, there was no attack, nothing to block or defend against.
As the terror of the act settled in, Valerian stood up, his eyes glowing in a cosmic purple.
Like a signal, the mana barrier around the camp broke into pieces, completely shattered by Valerian’s unique skill, and it didn’t stop there, because they could feel themselves getting hotter and hotter.
Sweat ran down their faces, their breathing became rugged. When a light illuminated the dark night sky of the Voidwoods, they turned their heads into the sky.
There, descending from the heavens like the decree of a divine god, was a massive wall of fire ready to incinerate everything in its path.
