Chapter 314: A Trust Between

Ever since that mission, No. 444 completely changes his perspective and ways of guiding the souls. Unlike his past rudeness, he will follow what No. 22 advised him.

Although there will always be a couple of times wherein he couldn’t understand something and cross a bit of a problem, fortunately Yin was beside him all that time. A bit clumsy but hard working. In addition, the relationship between the two ceased. Over time they learned that there’s a person beside them wherever they go and adjusted themselves. Of course, it’s more of the devil’s surprisingly tolerance and patience. He was more experienced and even has high emotional intelligence so he could understand if the grim reaper is just genuinely confused or having a temper again like always.

For the devil, these days are more peaceful than in the past. As a high ranking devil, he has many enemies. Dark entities have more greed for power and authority. They always seek and desire to destroy the things that are unpleasant for them— so was he. His temper is not good and he despises facing enemies that are weaker than him so he has been arrogant and often even provokes many.

It was this time that he was with the grim reaper that he knew he can actually become patient and can tolerate someone whose attitude is worse than him.

In the beginning he felt like he had no choice after the Judge forcefully restrained his power and could only be demoted like this. He didn’t even want to become a follower on someone like No. 444. The latter managed to make his blood boil more than a few times that he could remember but gradually, both of them showed changes.

A change that he didn’t expect within himself. He instantly understood why the Judge wanted him to follow No. 444. He wanted him to change alongside this grim reaper. It’s very cunning. Using him to forcibly restrain his attitude to help No. 444 becoming someone that even himself didn’t know. Since when did someone like him know how to be a proper being? Just the word devil as his identity already says what kind of person he is. Yet he has to restrain every evilness inside his heart to ’teach’ the grim reaper and he himself didn’t even notice how he easily adapted and changed.

Hitting two birds in one stone indeed.

Does he hate it?

Yin lowered his eyes and thought of that question a lot. Hate? Did he hate being trapped in this situation? Did he hate the Judge for setting him up like this? Did he hate the changes in him? Did he hate being with Si? A lot of questions suddenly flash on his mind after that single question.

He couldn’t assess himself fully but he knew that some of these questions answered yes. He hated being weak. He didn’t want to stay like this. He doesn’t want anyone to force him to follow something, even if it means that the outcome is good.

"...." He was stunned again. Good? So he thinks that the outcome is good?

He honestly couldn’t believe that he could say these words right now. He just thought of it without any minding everything, does that mean that this is actually his thoughts?

"Why are you dozing off?" He came back to his senses when he heard a voice. He looked up and saw No. 444 casually sitting on his usual spot again— the concrete railing of the high building they are in.

Yin unconsciously observes the expression on his face. Something changed even from the way he carries himself now.

Unlike the usual indifference and coldness of everything— although there’s still the sharpness gone from years of being a grim reaper, the expression on his face softens a bit and the way he looks around the world is no longer emptiness but a kind of curiosity around him.

He would gaze at what surrounds him, the place, the people— everything that he used to ignore.

He didn’t answer and walked towards him before swiftly sitting too with a small distant apart from him.

"Did the Judge talk to you about your progress?" He asked instead.

He nodded. "Yes. He said I’m doing alright now."

"... then good for you." Was all he could say. Another moment of silence again between them before Si broke it.

"Do you want to go back to your previous position as a devil?"

"Of course." He didn’t hesitate to answer that. "That is who I am." And he also fought hard for it. The devil’s path is way more crueler than being a powerful grim reaper. They don’t have that merit points so they can be rewarded with some good things, the underworld isn’t something as ’simple’ as that.

He was at the bottom where it was full of craziness and blood. Every walk it takes to have blood on your hands. Everyone around him is full of greed and selfishness— all just wanted to become stronger and get out from being weak and bullied.

Yin wasn’t born with a powerful strength, he crawled and killed many just to survive because that’s the world he was in. He took great lengths and efforts to achieve what he has and paid enough to suffer. He didn’t want it just to be restrained like this.

Even if he admitted that his situation is more peaceful and has been doing good, he will never give up owning what was his to begin with.

"Did the Judge tell you how you will get out of your situation?"

"No." At that time, he only wanted to help him and threatened to restrain him even more, he never talked about how he would give it back to him.

Si pauses and turns his head towards him. "I can ask him for you then."

"Why would you?" Isn’t it more beneficial to him that he stays this way?

No. 444 titled his head. "Why not? You helped me anyway, so I’ll help you too."

"Aren’t you afraid that I will cause trouble again?" He has a fair share of troubles all around especially if someone provoked him, no matter who it was.

Even if it’s this grim reaper’s colleague or someone else.

Si looks confused. "Why would you cause trouble?"

"Because there are a lot who want to," he answered.

No. 444 shrugged. "Then it’s just reasonable that you’ll trouble them too."

"???" Yin was very surprised at his words that didn’t even sound with hesitation and somehow he couldn’t help but laugh a bit.

"What?" He raised his brow. "Do you trust that I will not be the one who’ll cause trouble first?"

He intended to just tease anyway and didn’t think much of it initially yet in the next second, the grim reaper’s words caught him off guard this time.

"I think you won’t."
