Chapter 101: DON’T MIND. (REALLY?)Chapter 101: 101: DON’T MIND. (REALLY?)
"They’re busy. They can’t meet you, so please leave for now," the butler informed June.
But June simply smiled. "Is that so?"
He could tell they wanted him gone. Unfortunately for them, he hadn’t come here just to leave. He wasn’t going anywhere unless Nyx was coming with him.
"Too bad." June smiled as he stared straight into the butler’s eyes, counting down the five seconds in his head. "I already cleared my schedule for this, so they should too."
The butler was under his spell. He didn’t waste any time questioning it and simply stepped aside.
June smiled. "Thanks for your consideration."
With that, he stepped straight into the mansion to get his job done.
---
The dining table had been silent for a while. Mr. Faux was preparing to question Nyx about why June was there and, judging by his expression, probably punish him for it.
But before he could say anything, June casually stepped into the dining room as though he owned part of the Faux family’s estate.
"Greetings, dear family. I heard you’re busy with eating, so I took that into great consideration and decided to assist you in the hard labor of eating."
June smiled as he approached the dining table, his eyes moving from Nyx, whom he gave a quick wink, before settling on Mr. and Mrs. Faux.
"So, I hope you don’t mind me joining you in the art of eating."
"....."
Mr. and Mrs. Faux stared at each other before looking back at June.
"And to what do we owe this visit?" Mr. Faux asked, forcing a smile.
His eyes briefly shifted toward the entrance, where the butler was still standing outside.
"The butler was kind enough to let me in," June said with a smile. "So nice of him to decide to spend some time outside."
"And..." June continued, folding his arms as he tilted his head. "I don’t think I need a reason to visit a dear friend of mine. Your son finally has a friend after years of being lonely for some strange reason. Shouldn’t you be happy?"
Their eyes locked.
Although Mr. and Mrs. Faux wore smiles, it was obvious they hated his presence.
"Of course we are. We’re certainly happy to have you over," Mr. Faux said with a smile, glancing at Nyx. "It’s great that he now has friends. I’ve heard a lot about you too, Mr. June."
June smiled. "That’s good, then."
He walked over and took a seat beside Nyx.
"Then you certainly won’t mind me joining you, would you?"
They minded. They absolutely minded but they forced another smile.
"Not at all. We don’t mind. We love having you here. After all, you’ve been of great help to our dear son," Mrs. Faux said sweetly.
"Great, then."
June hated their fake smiles and forced politeness. He couldn’t wait for them to show their true colors.
Soon, he’d make sure they did.
June looked down at the food in front of Nyx and sighed.
"Eh, all the food here is so boring. Vegetables and all these boring-looking soups..."
He glanced at Nyx’s plate.
"Poor you. Is this the terrible meal you eat at home that made you so weak and gloomy all day? That’s bad."
"....."
Mr. and Mrs. Faux were speechless.
June turned toward them.
"I think you need to switch things up. I can’t have such boring, bland food. It looks bad and smells bland too. Too boring."
He shook his head.
"It makes children dull and gloomy. I mean, look at Nyx. He’s always like that because of such meals. You should probably fire whoever makes this food. They should be banned from cooking altogether for making something so atrocious!"
"...."
Mr. and Mrs. Faux stared at him silently.
After a long moment, Mrs. Faux finally spoke.
"I cooked it. I’m the one who makes these meals."
"...."
An awkward silence filled the room.
June blinked.
"Oops. Then that’s a problem..."
He bit his lower lip and stared down at the meal.
"Did you perhaps cook with YouTube tutorials?"
"...."
Mrs. Faux was speechless.
And bitter.
"If you don’t want this meal, we can get another one," Mr. Faux quickly said, trying to help his wife contain her fury.
June nodded with a smile.
"Please do. And also replace his meal. Such dull meals are terrible for kids. I thought all mums would know that, but I guess..."
He smiled.
"Never mind."
"...."
Mr. Faux ordered the cook to bring in other meals for June.
June rejected every single one.
The cook brought the first plate.
"Ah, this looks ugly. No."
Another came.
"Doesn’t look edible at all."
Then another.
"Excuse me, but is that dog food?"
Another.
"Ah, this suddenly makes me feel like not eating again."
He continued for several more rounds as Nyx watched in horror.
Nyx was terrified of what his parents would do. It was painfully obvious they were already furious with June.
"Or maybe you can just order something if you don’t want any of the meals here?" Mr. Faux finally asked, barely containing his annoyance.
June smiled as he settled down the piece of meat they’d brought.
"Even though this looks undercooked, I’ll manage. I’m not picky at all. I’ve eaten prison food before, so this shouldn’t be too bad."
Mrs. Faux was already burning with fury. She couldn’t take much more of this.
Mr. Faux subtly urged her to remain calm as he continued watching June.
Meanwhile, June pushed aside the vegetable soup sitting in front of Nyx and placed the meat in front of him instead.
"Have this. It tastes better."
Nyx stared at the meat, then at June.
Finally, he looked toward his parents, clearly skeptical.
June smiled reassuringly.
"Don’t worry. Enjoy it. I’m here."
But Nyx remained hesitant, especially with the cold looks coming from his parents.
And at that moment, Mr. Faux decided he’d had enough.
He leaned forward, picked up his cup, and took a slow sip before finally speaking.
"You know, you could just get straight to the point about why you’re here," he said, staring directly at June. "You don’t have to beat around the bush and waste everyone’s time."
June stared back at him with a smile.
He guessed it was time to make his trip here a little shorter.
