Chapter 121: 121: WANNA PLAY?

June smiled as he stepped forward. He was planning to use his skills—stare into their eyes and manipulate his way through.

But before he could, Nyx stepped forward and stood in front of him. He turned to June and said, "You should stand back... I’ll protect you."

Rayder folded his arms as he glared at him. "Pathetic. Enough with the lovey-dovey nonsense. Let’s get down to business."

Nyx turned back to stare at the two of them, his eyes glowing golden with fury as he stretched out his hand and held his staff firmly.

"The last time, I wasn’t able to play with you properly..."

A soft smile appeared on Nyx’s face.

"Forgive me for that, but this time, I’ll try to give you a fair show."

Jason scoffed. "Whatever."

He opened his palms, and red flames immediately consumed them. Powerful fire flowed through his hands and into the atmosphere.

It was the power of an S-rank Esper—strong enough to burn them down in an instant.

Rayder held his staff and swung it around as white lightning and electric sparks circulated around it. He smiled.

"Let’s play."

Nyx and June stared at each other before nodding. They turned toward Ryan, and without saying anything, they seemed to understand each other’s thoughts.

Ryan nodded.

Nyx attacked first.

He spun around, weaving his staff through the air as golden flames surged from it and swept toward the two S-rank Espers.

Jason and Rayder quickly shielded themselves from Nyx’s extreme flames, but the fire swept past them and smashed the fallen rocks on the ground into pieces, creating an opening.

Immediately, Ryan, Kael, Simon, and Finn ran through it.

They were going after the other members of the Elite 5, hoping to find a way through the zone while June and Nyx held Jason and Rayder back.

Rayder scoffed. "How naive of you to think you can hold us back—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Nyx struck again.

He swung his staff, sending thunderous waves of golden flames rushing toward the two.

Jason and Rayder tried to shield themselves, but the flames broke through and sent them flying backward, crashing hard against the rocks.

As they struggled to get back on their feet, Nyx stomped his foot against the ground.

The ground exploded, blasting Jason and Rayder upward into the air.

"What the—?!" Rayder cursed, gripping his staff firmly as he struggled to stabilize himself.

"You little rascal!" Jason cursed as he spun through the air and sent blazing red flames down toward Nyx, who was flying upward to meet them.

But Nyx smirked.

His golden eyes gleamed as Jason’s flames consumed him.

He disappeared into the raging red fire.

Rayder smiled. "Gotcha."

He immediately raised his staff into the air, summoning thunder and lightning before directing it straight into the red flames that had swallowed Nyx.

The lightning crashed into the fire.

The two powers mixed together, creating a violent, explosive reaction.

Rayder and Jason smiled.

"I’d like to see how you survive this." Jason’s eyes gleamed with bloodthirsty excitement.

"You asked for this," Rayder added as the two continued holding their powers firmly against Nyx.

June, who stood below watching, gasped in worry. He closed his eyes, trying to feel whether Nyx’s energy had been harmed.

But only moments later, June slowly opened his eyes.

A smile appeared on his face.

"He’s insane..."

The combined fire and lightning of the two S-rank Espers suddenly began turning golden.

Jason and Rayder’s expressions changed as they started losing control of the powers they were directing at Nyx.

Soon, they completely lost control.

Nyx suddenly swept out of the flames and waved his staff into the air.

Jason’s fire and Rayder’s lightning swirled around him like a tornado before transforming into golden flames. Nyx circled the massive energy around himself before sending it flying straight back toward them.

"What the actual fuck?!" Rayder gasped.

A massive ball of golden flames rushed toward them.

The two quickly used their powers to form shields, desperately trying to block it.

But they couldn’t last even two seconds.

The golden flames shattered through their defenses and sent them blasting through the air.

They smashed hard against the rocks before falling heavily onto the ground, both bruised and bleeding as they dropped to their knees.

Nyx landed smoothly on the floor.

He stood before them, holding his staff firmly in his hand as his golden eyes stared down at the two S-rank Espers.

"What was that about teaching some juniors how to play...?" Nyx smirked. "I guess I should teach you how it’s really done now."

He tilted his head.

"Still want to play?"

Jason and Rayder slowly struggled back to their feet.

Rayder ran a hand across his face, feeling the blood dripping down as his eyes darkened with fury.

"You little piece of shit..." Rayder smiled.

Jason gently wiped the blood from his lips and cast a calm yet cold glare at Nyx.

"I guess we were being too easy on you."

His expression darkened.

"Time to really make you regret this."

Nyx smiled.

"I guess that means yes."

Ryan and the others had passed through the opening and were now following the remaining members of the Elite 5 from behind.

They watched as Luther, Karen, and Evelyn ran through the chaotic atmosphere, surrounded by floating rocks and broken structures as they searched for a way into the third zone.

While following them, Ryan turned toward Kael.

The two exchanged a look and nodded.

Immediately, Kael swung his staff through the air and positioned it toward them.

Red dust crawled across the ground before suddenly snapping around Luther’s feet.

"Ah!"

Luther let out a loud cry of pain as he immediately dropped to one knee.

But Karen reacted almost instantly.

Sensing that someone was behind them, he turned and waved his hand toward Ryan and the others.

Ice immediately crawled across the ground.

"Dodge!" Simon shouted.

Everyone jumped into the air just in time, narrowly avoiding the sharp spikes of ice speeding toward their legs.

Evelyn quickly went down to help Luther, whose leg had been poisoned by Kael’s ability, while Karen stepped forward to face Ryan and the others.

He scoffed as he adjusted his glasses.

"And what do we have here? A bunch of low-lives?"

Ryan adjusted his own glasses with a smile.

"What a perfect way to describe your presence."
