Chapter 25: 25: GOLDEN FLAMES.

June still had a hand pressed against his bleeding lip, trying to recover from the shocking accident earlier, when his eyes landed on Nyx.

"What the hell...?"

He sat frozen, unable to find the words as he stared at the unbelievable sight before him.

Nyx slowly rose to his feet.

His entire body glowed with a brilliant golden light.

He stared down at his hands as golden flames danced across his skin, slowly spreading over his body. The same flames flickered within his eyes.

Nyx staggered backward, pressing a hand against his forehead as an overwhelming sensation coursed through his veins.

He felt different, yet strangely familiar. He felt powerful.

An immense surge of energy flowed through every part of his body. As he steadied himself, he slowly lifted his head and looked toward the giant cat that was still glaring at him.

What happened next was so fast that June could barely follow it.

The cat lunged as Nyx picked up the staff.

The instant his fingers wrapped around it, the weapon erupted with blazing golden flames.

He swung. A massive wave of golden fire exploded outward, crashing into the giant cat and blasting it through the air.

Before the beast could even recover, Nyx stomped hard against the ground and launched himself after it.

He struck again. Then again and again. Each swing sent another burst of blazing golden flames across the sky.

The cat never had a chance to touch the ground.

It remained suspended in midair as Nyx relentlessly chased after it, striking from every direction with impossible speed.

June could only sit there in stunned silence.

His eyes followed the blazing streaks of gold lighting up the sky while explosion after explosion echoed across the battlefield.

He wasn’t even sure whether to pity the poor cat or to think about those flames.

"The golden flames..." His voice barely escaped as a whisper. "How...?" His eyes widened. "How is this possible?"

His mind raced. "I thought... I thought this wasn’t supposed to happen yet..."

If he remembered the novel correctly, Nyx wasn’t meant to awaken this power until much later.

It happened during the arc where Nyx became obsessed with obtaining more strength.

That was the beginning of his descent. The start of the villain’s era.

The very path that eventually led to his tragic death.

"What..." June shook his head repeatedly. "No... this can’t be happening already."

Nothing made sense anymore. Why did Nyx already possess these powers? Where had they come from? And more importantly...

Why now?

June watched in disbelief as Nyx wielded the golden flames as though he’d been born with them.

The fire flowed naturally along the staff, wrapping around every strike before exploding against the cat.

Each hit drove the beast farther across the sky until one final blow finally sent it crashing violently into the ground. The impact shook the entire garden.

June instinctively raised an arm to shield his face from the shockwave.

Before the dust had even settled, Nyx descended from above. And without hesitation, he drove the flaming staff straight into the fallen beast.

Golden fire poured into the cat’s body. A horrifying shriek echoed across the garden.

It wasn’t the cry of a cat. It sounded wrong. Almost absurd for a cat.

The moment the scream ended, the entire world began changing as June looked around in alarm.

The colorful flowers rapidly lost their vibrant colors. The grass turned gray. The bushes withered before his eyes.

Within seconds, the once beautiful garden transformed into a dead wasteland. Dark, twisted trees stretched toward the sky.

The cheerful sunlight disappeared behind heavy gray clouds. A chilling darkness settled over everything.

June’s eyes widened. The giant cat was changing too.

Its body twisted violently before shrinking into something grotesque. The fluffy beast disappeared, replaced by a starving, rat-like monster whose bones protruded through paper-thin skin. Its flesh sagged and dripped like melting slime.

The creature let out one final, agonizing scream. Then its entire body began dissolving.

Its eyes melted first. Then its nose. Its mouth collapsed into its face before everything crumbled into black ash and thick smoke.

June remained frozen where he sat. "...What the hell?" His voice trembled. "Is this... still part of the test?"

He had edited countless fantasy comics with horrifying monsters like this.Seeing one in real life was an entirely different experience.

Slowly, he looked toward Nyx.

Nyx stood silently with the flaming staff still in his hand. Golden flames continued dancing around his body. He stared quietly at the pile of ash where the monster had once stood.

His face was completely expressionless. His eyes were empty. Almost lifeless.

June felt a chill run down his spine. He knew that look.

It was the same cold expression Nyx wore every time the villain mercilessly killed someone in the novel.

That emotionless, malicious look.

June instinctively shuffled backward. His heart pounded. He couldn’t say a word.

Just then, the surroundings began changing once again.

The darkness remained, but countless glowing crystal spheres slowly appeared throughout the air. Blue, Green, Red,Gold..

Dozens of colorful crystals floated peacefully around them. Dungeon and Mana Cores of unique appearances.

Most of them drifted toward Nyx before quietly sinking into his body one after another.

June slowly looked around. "...The dungeon..." His lips parted. "It’s cleared."

The grotesque monster had completely disappeared. The dead trees and withered plants slowly faded away as well. Even the heavy atmosphere began lifting, replaced by calm silence.

June slowly climbed to his feet. "...It’s really cleared." He blinked. "...Does that mean..." His eyes widened. "We passed the test?"

Before he could think any further, a loud humming sound echoed nearby. A massive yellow portal slowly opened before them.

June’s eyes immediately lit up. "We’re free."

Relief washed over him as he looked through the shimmering portal. Standing on the other side was a familiar figure leading a squad of uniformed Espers.

June smiled instinctively. "Brother..."

It was Grey. His second eldest brother stood calmly before the mirror-like portal, waiting for them.
