Chapter 28: 28: WORTH NATIONAL ATTENTION

As soon as Grey and his team approached, the Principal, Chancellor, and the rest of the academy officials turned toward them.

They immediately recognized the uniforms of the Red Dust Government Organization and greeted them with respectful nods.

Grey exchanged brief handshakes with the Chancellor and Principal before turning his attention to June. His gaze settled on his younger brother, who was still kneeling on the ground with a thoroughly dejected expression, as though his soul had already left his body.

Without another word, Grey pulled out the name badge he had found inside the dungeon and held it in front of June.

"What were you doing in there?"

June looked up with tired eyes. "As if I wanted to be in there..."

One of the female Guides behind Grey couldn’t help smiling at that answer.

Grey cleared his throat before turning toward the academy officials. "I was under the impression that today’s examination involved simulated dungeons," he said calmly. "So why were students sent into a real dungeon? And not just any dungeon, but an anomaly dungeon."

His gaze shifted back to June. "And why was my little brother inside it?"

June blinked helplessly.

The Chancellor cleared his throat before stepping forward. "We sincerely apologize for the danger and distress this incident has caused. Unfortunately, the situation was entirely beyond our expectations and control."

"Beyond your control?" Grey asked, raising an eyebrow. His brown hair caught the afternoon sunlight as he regarded them calmly. "Explain."

Mr. Ken adjusted his glasses before answering. "There was a sudden malfunction. Somehow, our simulated dungeon portals were replaced with portals leading to real dungeons."

He sighed. "We still don’t understand how it happened ourselves. Before anyone could react, several students had already been transported into actual dungeons... and one of those happened to be an S-Class anomaly dungeon."

He shook his head. "It’s an unprecedented phenomenon, one we still can’t explain. Fortunately, the fact that these two students managed to survive and clear the dungeon proves that, despite being F-Ranks, they possess truly extraordinary talent."

Mr. Ethan nodded in agreement.

Grey’s expression, however, remained unchanged. He knew better than most people just how unpredictable anomaly dungeons were. If one had somehow replaced a simulated dungeon, it wasn’t entirely impossible.

What concerned him wasn’t how it appeared. It was how two first-year students had entered it... survived... and somehow managed to clear it. That was the real mystery. It was also the sort of mystery countless organizations would want to investigate.

Grey had absolutely no intention of letting his younger brother become someone’s research subject.

"We’ll conduct a full investigation into the incident," Mr. Ethan assured him. "Once we discover the cause, we’ll provide everyone involved with a complete explanation."

"And if it’s any consolation," one of the invited VIP Espers added with a smile, "you should be proud to have such an exceptional younger brother." Several others nodded in agreement.

"Very few professional Espers and Guides are even capable of entering an anomaly dungeon safely, let alone surviving an S-Class one. Many never return. So for two F-Ranks to enter an anomaly dungeon as their very first real dungeon, survive it, and even clear it..." He smiled. "Wouldn’t you say that’s worthy of national attention?"

The surrounding guests nodded one after another.

"It certainly is," Chancellor Gregory agreed.

"This is an achievement unlike anything we’ve seen before." He smiled politely at Grey. "For someone as accomplished as you, Mr. Grey, having such a remarkable younger brother must be something to take pride in."

Grey merely listened without changing his expression. The compliments did little to soften the cold look in his eyes.

Principal Bradford stepped forward again. "Once again, we sincerely apologize for what happened. We won’t deny that the students’ lives were placed in grave danger, and the academy accepts responsibility for that. We promise to investigate the incident thoroughly and provide everyone with a proper explanation."

Grey gave no response. Instead, his gaze shifted toward the two students. He looked at Nyx first. His expression remained polite but distant, carrying an unmistakable coldness that made it obvious he wasn’t particularly interested in getting acquainted. Then his attention moved to June.

June still hadn’t recovered from the shock of the rankings. He wasn’t even paying attention to the conversation anymore. His mind was completely occupied with one horrifying thought.

How am I supposed to survive the plot now?

Everything had gone wrong. Every single plan he had carefully made had collapsed spectacularly.

"June." Grey walked over and stopped in front of him. "Get up. We’re leaving."

June slowly looked up. "...I can’t."

Grey stared at him for a moment. "Are you going to stand up yourself... or do I have to carry you?"

June simply lowered his head with a defeated sigh. "My life is over..." He mumbled. "My perfect plan is ruined... I’m doomed..."

Before he could finish complaining, Grey bent down without hesitation.

"Ah!" June let out a startled cry as Grey effortlessly hoisted him over one shoulder like a sack of rice. "Hey!"

Grey ignored him completely. Holding him securely by the leg, he turned around and calmly walked away without another word to anyone present.

The entire arena watched the strange sight. June dangled helplessly over his brother’s shoulder, kicking his legs in protest. "Put me down! Hey! I’m serious!"

Grey continued walking as though he hadn’t heard a single word.

The members of his squad exchanged amused smiles before turning back toward the academy officials. "If you’ll excuse us," one of the female Guides said with a polite bow, "we’ll be taking our leave."

"Please continue with your ceremony," the other added with a smile before following after Grey.

The officials watched them disappear into the distance. Around the arena, the students resumed whispering among themselves while the invited guests quietly discussed everything that had happened.

Nyx remained standing where he was. Silently, he watched June being carried away.

His thoughts drifted back to everything that had happened inside the dungeon. The overwhelming power. The golden flames. The unfamiliar energy that had surged through every part of his body.

As he looked at June’s retreating figure, countless questions surfaced in his mind.

For the first time in his life... he had felt true power awakening within him. A power that somehow seemed connected... to June.
