Mrs. Faux smiled faintly as she said, "But then again, we’ve been invited to a grand event. It seems the En family is celebrating their little victory. They invited us, the government officials, and Mr. Dan as well."

Mr. Faux scoffed. "That silly family, celebrating a victory that isn’t even theirs. Pathetic rich brats." He shook his head before adding, "Still, we’ll attend. At the very least, it’ll give us a chance to meet Mr. Dan."

His gaze settled on Nyx, whose hands were trembling ever so slightly as he struggled to keep them steady.

"Make sure you’re on your best behavior when you meet him," Mr. Faux said coldly. "Don’t mess it up."

"Yes..." Nyx replied quietly, his voice cracking before he cleared his throat.

"And stay away from that rich brat," Mrs. Faux added. "He’s only an F-Rank Guide. He can’t possibly be of any use to you"

"He’s nothing more than useless dead weight that’ll only drag you down. Aside from his family’s money, he’s completely worthless. Just another annoying spoiled rich kid."

Mr. Faux nodded in agreement.

"Listen to your mother. Once you enter the academy, find a way to get close to S-Rank Guides instead. Powerful Guides who can help you unlock more of your abilities. Do you understand?"

Nyx simply lowered his head and nodded. He said nothing else.

Silence settled over the dining room once again.

Only the soft clinking of cutlery echoed through the room while the maids stood quietly in the distance as the three of them continued eating.

After dinner, Nyx returned to his bedroom and immediately sank into the chair beside his desk.

He let out a long breath with his eyes closed. Veins bulged faintly beneath his skin as his hands trembled uncontrollably, beads of sweat sliding down his forehead.

Nyx inhaled deeply, struggling to steady his breathing before slowly opening his eyes and staring blankly at the desk in front of him.

One name echoed endlessly inside his mind. Mr. Kelvin Dan.

The man’s face flashed vividly before his eyes.

It took him several minutes to calm himself enough to move. Finally, he opened one of his drawers, took out a small medicine bottle, poured a few pills into his palm, and swallowed them with a mouthful of water.

His breathing gradually stabilized.

As he reached forward to put the bottle back into the drawer, his movements suddenly stopped.

A knife lay inside.

Nyx stared at it silently, his thoughts grew louder.

His gaze shifted from the blade to his wrist... then back to the blade again.

Should he do it? Should he just let his intrusive thoughts win again like they’ve always done and easen his pain through pain?

His fingers twitched slightly as he continued staring at the knife.

Then, just as he lowered his eyes to his wrist once more.. he remembered June.

Nyx froze.

His thoughts drifted back to that day inside the limousine, when June had dragged him into the car and insisted on treating the wounds on his wrist with the first-aid kit.

He remembered how gentle June had been. The careful way he wrapped the bandages. The way he softly blew on the wound as though it would somehow ease the pain.

The smile on his face. His playful tone.

Nyx remembered every little detail so vividly that he found himself wondering if that had truly been the real June En.

He didn’t actually know June personally.

Everything he knew had come from rumors and stories people spread around the academy.

Everyone called him a rude, spoiled brat. A rich young master who bullied others simply because of his family’s status.

An arrogant jerk nobody wanted to associate with.

Nyx had always been afraid of crossing paths with him. He had hoped they would never have anything to do with one another after entering the academy.

Then the pairing announcement came. The moment he learned that June would be his Guide, all hope had disappeared.

He had prepared himself for the worst. He expected insults, mockery, Humiliation.

But instead, none of that happened.

Apart from being unbelievably lazy and strangely carefree, June wasn’t anything like the rumors described.

In fact, he wasn’t so bad. He had even defended him once.

Nyx found himself remembering everything.

June smiling while patching up his wrist. The way he grabbed him beneath the rain and dragged him along without hesitation. His ridiculous celebration after flooding people with water.

His endless sarcastic remarks. His bizarre ideas. His shameless attempts to slack off.

Even inside the dungeon...

Nyx couldn’t help remembering June desperately trying to scare away a giant monster with nothing but a stick and a bag of chips.

A faint smile slowly crept onto his lips."Silly..." he murmured under his breath.

His eyes drifted toward his hand.

The smile gradually disappeared as his thoughts returned to the dungeon.

"What was that feeling...?"

He slowly opened and closed his hand, recalling the overwhelming surge of energy that had rushed through every part of his body.

He remembered the golden flames. The immense strength. The overwhelming power.

He remembered the way those flames had consumed the staff, how they had torn through the monster, and how they had completely erased the dungeon’s dark aura.

The sensation remained unbelievably vivid in his memory. It fascinated him.

"The kiss..."

His fingers slowly rose to his lips, gently brushing over the faint bruise that still lingered there.

His face grew warm. The memory of their accidental kiss replayed inside his mind once again.

Nyx couldn’t stop the blush spreading across his cheeks. He bit his lower lip before quietly shaking his head.

"It had to be the kiss..."

The more he replayed everything that had happened, the more convinced he became.

The kiss had been the trigger. There was no other explanation.

Somehow, June possessed something capable of awakening his dormant abilities.

And if that was true, then the kiss was probably the key that activated them. And Nyx was curious about what more the kiss could do...
