Chapter 42: 42: DOCTOR’S ORDERS

A full week after the academy had officially opened, June was still at home, spending most of his time locked away in his bedroom.

He had absolutely no intention of attending the academy and had exhausted every trick he could think of to buy himself more time.

His strongest excuse so far had been pretending to be seriously ill.

"I’m suffering from some strange illness I caught after the anomaly dungeon, so I can’t report to the academy," he had told his parents.

Since then, his daily routine had consisted of eating, sleeping, watching movies, scrolling through the internet, and repeatedly crashing out over the embarrassing articles and photos from the disastrous party.

"They couldn’t even get a single good picture of me..." June muttered dramatically while scrolling through another article.

"I’m finished. My reputation is over."

Even while hiding in his room, one thought kept returning to him over and over again. Nyx. More specifically... Nyx’s request.

The villain actually wanted to become his partner. The villain had voluntarily asked to get closer to him. That was practically an express ticket to his own funeral.

June couldn’t possibly agree to something like that.

He already knew how the original novel ended. The closer anyone got to the villain, the greater their chances of ending up dead.

His entire survival plan revolved around avoiding both Nyx and the original plot. If he never attended the academy... He wouldn’t get close to Nyx. If he stayed away from Nyx... He stayed alive. Perfect.

Completely satisfied with this flawless logic, June continued living like a lazy bag of chips—lying in bed all day while eating snacks, sleeping, and binge-watching movies without the slightest hint of guilt.

A knock suddenly came from the door. June instantly froze. "Oh no..." He looked around nervously. "They can’t find out I’m not actually sick..."

Without wasting another second, he shoved the snacks beneath his blanket, grabbed a makeup kit from his bedside drawer, and hurriedly dusted pale foundation across his face. He deliberately messed up his hair, dabbed a little water beneath his nose to make it look runny, and examined himself in the mirror.

"Perfect."

Nodding in satisfaction, he quickly crawled back into bed, wrapped himself tightly in the blanket, and adopted the expression of someone who had one foot in the grave.

"Come in..." he croaked weakly, sounding like he might stop breathing at any moment.

The bedroom door opened. Raymond stepped inside carrying a tray with a bowl of medicinal soup.

June immediately sat upright. "You should’ve said it was you," he complained. "Have you forgotten our secret code?"

Raymond placed the tray on the bedside table before folding his arms. "Young Master, you’ve been pretending to be sick for over a week now. You still haven’t reported to the academy, and from what I’ve heard, classes have already started."

He continued, "The students have received their uniforms, been assigned classrooms, and lectures are already underway. What if they begin quizzes or examinations soon?"

"I’ll miss them," June replied with a shrug. "It’s not like I planned on taking the academy seriously anyway."

Raymond sighed. "But how much longer can you keep this up? Your parents are going to figure it out eventually."

June rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "True... this excuse is starting to get old. I’ll need to come up with another one soon."

Then he casually pointed toward the soup. "But first, take that thing to the usual place and pour it away. I hate the smell."

Every time someone brought him medicinal soup, Raymond secretly emptied it into the toilet while June pretended to have finished every last drop.

"Very well," Raymond sighed. He picked up the bowl and headed toward the bathroom while June happily grabbed his tablet again, adjusted his pillow, and resumed watching his movie.

Unfortunately... The bedroom door suddenly opened again. Mrs. En walked in.

The moment June saw her, panic exploded inside him. Without thinking, he flung his tablet away, threw himself backward onto the bed, shut his eyes tightly, and instantly transformed into a lifeless possum. The tablet crashed loudly against the floor.

June’s heart shattered alongside it. He could practically hear his expensive tablet breaking into pieces.

Imaginary tears welled up in his eyes as he silently mourned its sacrifice, but surviving this situation came first.

Mrs. En entered with Grey following behind her, both hands tucked into his pockets while an amused smile lingered on his face.

As Mrs. En leaned closer to inspect him, June slowly cracked one eye open. Their eyes met. He immediately shut it again.

Realizing he’d already been caught, he reluctantly opened it once more and stared at her with the expression of a dying man.

"Oh... dear Mother..." he wheezed before forcing out two exaggerated coughs. "What are you doing here...?"

Mrs. En smiled warmly. "I came to visit my precious son. I haven’t seen your handsome face in quite a while."

June forced a weak smile. "You’ve seen me now..." He coughed dramatically again. "I’m still terribly sick... so you should leave before you catch this dangerous, highly contagious illness."

Mrs. En nodded thoughtfully. "You know, at first I was worried about catching this mysterious disease you claimed came from the anomaly dungeon. But after thinking about it..." She smiled even more brightly. "I don’t mind. You’re my son after all." She calmly sat down opposite him.

June’s heart skipped a beat. What was happening? "Ah... but I do mind," he said quickly before coughing even harder. "I wouldn’t want you catching... my horrible illness."

"Oh, don’t worry." She smiled reassuringly before her eyes drifted toward the tablet lying on the floor.

"I thought this illness made your vision blurry and left you too weak to do anything." She tilted her head innocently. "So why were you watching something on your tablet?"

June swallowed. "Well..." he began carefully, "I was... searching online for possible treatments..."

Mrs. En bent down, picked up the cracked tablet, and glanced at the paused screen.

It displayed a rather passionate kissing scene between two men from the BL movie June had been watching.

June immediately began sweating. His terrified eyes slowly met his mother’s. Silence filled the room.

Finally, June forced an awkward smile. "Well... the doctor said scenes like that are... medicinal."

He nodded confidently despite the sweat pouring down his face. "They’re... very helpful for recovery." He gave a helpless shrug. "So... you know... doctor’s orders."
