Mrs. En returned the smile before setting the tablet aside. Her gaze slowly shifted toward the bathroom, where faint sounds could be heard coming from inside.
June immediately panicked. Raymond was still in there emptying the medicinal soup and had no idea anyone else had entered the room.
"And what’s going on in there?" Mrs. En asked, beginning to rise from her seat.
June quickly reached out, gently pulling her back down. "Actually..." He rubbed his forehead dramatically.
"My headache is getting worse again. I think I need another bowl of your soup. Could you make one for me? Please?"
Mrs. En looked at him suspiciously. "Oh? Another bowl already? Did you finish the first one?"
June smiled without hesitation. "Yes. It was terribly bitter, but it worked wonders. I already feel a little better."
Mrs. En slowly raised an eyebrow before reaching out to touch his forehead. June smiled confidently, allowing her hand to rest against his face, completely forgetting that he had covered himself in pale makeup only moments ago.
She hesitated. "...Does this illness also come with waterproof makeup?" she asked calmly.
June froze. His eyes widened as realization struck him.
Mrs. En lowered her hand, revealing streaks of foundation smeared across her fingers. June stared at her stained hand before forcing out an awkward smile.
"Ah... that." He cleared his throat. "It’s... medicinal facial cream. It helps speed up recovery."
Grey folded his arms, unable to hold back his laughter.
Mrs. En simply nodded slowly before her attention shifted toward the suspicious lump beneath June’s blanket. Without warning, she grabbed the bedsheet.
June’s eyes widened. "No, wait—"
He desperately tried to hold the blanket down, but it was already too late. Mrs. En yanked it away, sending bags of chips and snacks flying through the air before they scattered all over the floor.
"No...!" June let out a heartbroken cry as he watched his precious snacks rain down around the room.
Everyone stared silently at the colorful pile covering the floor while June bit his lower lip in defeat.
Mrs. En looked back at him. "Snacks... while you’re sick?"
June forced another smile. "Well... they’re special snacks. High in fiber... vitamins... very medicinal..." Even he knew that excuse sounded ridiculous.
Before anyone could respond, Raymond stepped out of the bathroom after secretly pouring away the soup.
Completely unaware of the situation, he sighed. "I honestly wonder how much longer you’ll keep pouring away the soup and pretending to be sick just to avoid school, Young Master. I think Mrs. En will eventually—"
He stopped mid-sentence. His eyes slowly swept across the room.
June sat stiffly on the bed, staring at him with complete despair. Mrs. En sat beside the bed with folded arms and one raised eyebrow. Grey stood near the doorway, grinning from ear to ear.
Raymond swallowed. "...Oops."
June immediately turned toward his mother with the brightest smile he could manage. "Oh wow! Look at that, Mother! I’ve been miraculously healed! God truly works in mysterious ways. Amen."
Mrs. En remained expressionless. Her stare alone told him everything.
June sighed heavily. "...Yeah. You’re not buying that."
---
The following morning, June sat in the living room with his arms folded tightly across his chest, wearing a deep frown.
He was already dressed in his yellow academy uniform, glaring across the room at Grey, who stood opposite him with his own arms folded and an unmistakably amused expression.
"What?" Grey asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I know this was your doing," June muttered bitterly. "You exposed my entire plan. Pathetic."
Grey gave a quiet scoff. "And how exactly is that my fault? I’m not bored enough to sabotage you."
June wasn’t convinced for even a second.
Just then, Mrs. En walked into the room carrying a neatly packed lunchbox. She handed it to June before affectionately patting his head.
"All set. Now head off to school, and remember to share your lunch with your friends... especially that Nyx boy."
June stared at the lunchbox. "I’m not a child. Why do I have to carry this around?"
Mrs. En’s smile instantly disappeared. She slowly turned toward him with a terrifying glare.
June immediately straightened up. "...I’ll take it."
Her smile returned just as quickly. "Good boy." She gently patted his hair again while Grey quietly snorted with laughter.
June simply glared at him, choosing silence over starting another argument.
"Now hurry along," Mrs. En urged. "You’re already a week behind everyone else, so you’ve got plenty of catching up to do."
And just like that, June was sent off to the academy.
After discovering his elaborate scheme, Mrs. En had threatened to freeze all of his bank cards if he continued refusing to attend school.
She had even suspended one of his cards for an entire month as punishment, leaving him with no choice but to surrender.
A short while later, the family limousine rolled to a stop in front of Arcadia Academy. The tinted window slid down.
June remained seated inside, quietly staring at the bustling campus outside. Students hurried between buildings, chatting excitedly as they made their way to classes.
He let out a long sigh. "I can’t believe I’m voluntarily walking toward my own doom."
---
The moment June stepped out of the limousine, someone approached him almost immediately. It was Mr. Yen, the Dean of Student Affairs. He looked surprisingly young, probably somewhere in his early thirties.
His silver hair was slightly messy, and his casual clothes made him look more like a laid-back non academic staff than one of the academy’s senior administrators.
Mr. Yen stopped in front of June and looked him up and down. June returned the favor. For several awkward seconds, the two simply stood there staring at each other.
"So..." Mr. Yen began.
Before he could continue, June spoke first. "Sorry, I don’t have any money to spare. I’m broke these days. Can I go inside now?"
Mr. Yen blinked. "...What?"
June tilted his head innocently. "Aren’t you a beggar hanging around the academy gate?"
Silence settled between them. Mr. Yen stared at him for several long seconds before finally rubbing his forehead. "No," he replied flatly. "I’m your dean."
June blinked. "...Oops."
