Silence engulfed the room for a while as the two of them stood there, staring at each other. The silence lingered for a long time, breathing and awkward atmosphere between the two of them.

Eventually, Grey looked down with a sigh before speaking. "We should go grab something to eat. Maybe we can discuss this properly there..."

"Because he’s your brother?" Syll questioned.

Grey stared at him without saying anything. "Syll..." Grey called his name softly.

"And since when did you start mixing family and business together?" Syll continued, his expression cold. "I thought you were someone who was strict about work ethics, someone who knew when to prioritize your responsibilities and separate personal feelings from work."

Syll hesitated, lowering his head for a moment before looking back at him. "What? What exactly did I say wrong?"

He stared at Grey seriously. "I’m your boss, and this is your job. You’re obligated to report every piece of information and every discovery to me. I’m supposed to be the first person to know about these things. Have you forgotten your responsibilities?"

Grey remained silent, standing there with both hands behind his back as he stared at him. "Yes. You’re right," he finally said. "I should have informed you."

He sighed before looking up again. "But you’re also right about something else. I did it because he is my brother." His expression became serious. "I needed to protect him as well."

Syll scoffed. "Protect him from what? It’s not like we’re going to tear him apart and use him for experiments. We only need to run some tests and make discoveries."

"You should know better than that," Grey replied calmly. "You’re not new to this. We both know it won’t end there." He looked directly at Syll.

"I understand your intentions, but we both know where this path leads. It starts with a small, harmless test, then it becomes more tests, more exposure, and more people wanting access to him."

"And eventually, it turns into high-end experiments that could have serious effects. Even if you don’t personally take things that far, it will attract attention from all directions. Then you’ll have malicious parties trying to tear him apart for their own selfish discoveries."

Grey’s voice became firmer as he continued. "You should understand that much at least. This world isn’t as simple as we want it to be. It’s dangerous. So I won’t allow my brother to become a tool for anyone’s research. And deep down, you wouldn’t want that either."

Silence returned as Syll looked away, running a hand through his hair while releasing a long sigh.

He looked down at the papers on his desk before speaking quietly. "...If we keep playing it safe, then how are we supposed to ever liberate ourselves?"

He raised his eyes toward Grey. "I’m sure you’re aware of the situation our organization is in. You know how bad things have become."

He lifted the papers in his hand. "Sooner or later, we might as well close everything down. Everyone can walk away and find something else to do."

The Red Dust Organization was known as one of the top Esper and Guide organizations in the country.

However, despite that reputation, the truth was that they were surviving mostly on the achievements and glory of their past. In recent years, the organization had been declining rapidly.

Their strongest Espers and Guides had left for better opportunities, their major sponsors had withdrawn their support, and the government’s attention had slowly shifted toward newer, rising organizations. Their budget had also become increasingly limited.

The fall of Red Dust was no longer a secret. Yet Grey remained. As one of the strongest Espers in the country, many expected him to leave for better opportunities. But he stayed, continuing to work for the organization without hesitation.

"Being ethical gets you nowhere," Syll argued. "And I’m not willing to give up on this. This organization is everything I have. It’s everything I have left to fight for." His expression hardened. "So losing it is not an option."

The two stared at each other before Grey finally sighed. "I understand how you feel..."

"No, you don’t," Syll interrupted coldly. "And you never will." He looked directly at Grey. "So I’ll give you a choice. Either cooperate with me, or quit and leave the organization."

Silence filled the room once again as the two of them stood there, their eyes locked as if they could understand each other’s thoughts without speaking.

Grey eventually let out a small smile. "You can try everything you want. You can pull every trick you have to push me away..." He walked closer to the desk, placing both hands on it as he leaned forward and stared directly into Syll’s eyes.

"...but you should already know by now that I’m never leaving this organization. No matter what happens."

Syll stared back at him, his expression cold and unreadable. "Then don’t blame me for being ruthless when it comes to achieving what I want," he replied. "I won’t allow this organization to fall. I’ll restore its former glory, and to do that, I’ll start by approaching your brother."

Grey smiled. "I’ll loyally help you rebuild this organization in every way possible. But forgive me for stopping your plans regarding my brother in the future. So let’s do our best with that understanding." He extended his hand toward Syll for a handshake.

However, Syll didn’t take it. He only stared at him with the same cold expression, their eyes remaining locked.

At that moment, Alia suddenly stormed into the office. "It’s an emergency," she announced, causing both Syll and Grey to turn toward her.

"An anomaly dungeon has been detected at Arcadia Academy... again." She spoke between breaths, clearly having rushed there as quickly as possible.

Immediately, Syll’s expression changed. He was alert . And without hesitation, he stood up and walked away from the desk, leaving Grey there.

"Get your team ready," he instructed Alia. "We’re heading to Arcadia Academy immediately."
