Chapter 61: DEATH SENTENCE EITHERWAYChapter 61: 61: DEATH SENTENCE EITHERWAY
Simon spun the staff in his hand, warming up his body as he prepared to strike while the monsters stared in their direction.
"I’ll try keeping them off us," Simon said. "Maybe try finding a way out."
"These aren’t like the normal monsters from an original dungeon, so you can’t casually handle them," Mr. Ken explained.
Simon nodded. "I’ll try," he said as the first monster suddenly moved.
The fish-like creature leapt through the snow and shot through the air, diving toward them in a flash.
Simon immediately swung his staff as wind gathered around it. The moment the monster came within range, he slammed the staff forward, sending a powerful gust of wind that struck the creature and sent it flying backward.
However, almost immediately, three more monsters took flight and joined the first one. The four creatures spread their wings and charged through the air toward them.
Simon leapt into the air, waving his staff as he summoned the wind around him. The air around his body twisted violently, forming a tornado that surrounded him as he prepared to fight.
Strangely, he found it difficult to use his usual level of power in this area. The atmosphere itself seemed to suppress his abilities, forcing him to draw on a much higher level of energy just to activate his skills. Simon gritted his teeth and forced his power through the strange restriction.
Wind spiraled around him as he swung his staff toward the approaching monsters, striking one into the air while kicking another backward.
But before he could react, one of the monsters struck him across the face with its wing. Simon was instantly thrown off balance, spinning through the air before crashing heavily onto the snow-covered ground.
The monsters immediately gathered around him.
"The dungeon forces people to use extreme amounts of energy, causing them to weaken faster," Mr. Ken explained. "If you continue fighting like this, you’ll run out of energy soon."
"So it’s a death sentence either way?" Ryan asked, speechless.
"Pretty much." Mr. Ken sighed as he stared at the monsters hovering above them. Their wings beat heavily against the cold air as they prepared for another attack.
Simon pushed himself back onto his feet. "Finn, guide me," he said, looking up at the flying monsters. "If they want to go all out, then let’s do the same."
Mr. Ken immediately grabbed his arm.
"Don’t be reckless. That’s basically asking for death. You can’t predict how the dungeon will react once you push your limits. It’s dangerous for both of you."
"But we can’t just sit here and wait for them to come after us, can we?" Simon argued.
Silence fell between them. Mr. Ken looked at the approaching monsters and sighed. He knew they couldn’t continue waiting.
"Then I’ll do the guiding," Mr. Ken said.
Everyone stared at him in surprise.
"You can?" June asked.
"I’ll try."
"I also want to help," Nyx suddenly said. "At least my physical combat ability isn’t bad." He turned toward June. "And he can guide me."
June blinked in disbelief. "Me? No... I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t want anyone getting killed, and I definitely don’t want to die either."
"But our compatibility was a hundred percent, so I think we’ll be fine," Nyx tried convincing him.
June remained skeptical.
"Don’t worry. I’ll do the guiding," Mr. Ken explained. He couldn’t allow more students to be placed in danger while he was standing there.
After they agreed, Mr. Ken grabbed Nyx and Simon’s hands. Closing his eyes, he carefully sensed their energies, sorting through their unstable flows and synchronizing them with his own.
Once he finished, he opened his eyes.
"Now."
Simon and Nyx immediately pulled out their Academy staff weapons and launched themselves into the air.
Simon flew toward the monsters first, kicking forward as a powerful wave of wind exploded from his movement and pushed several creatures backward.
Meanwhile, Nyx rushed toward another monster and slammed his staff against it. He didn’t give the creature any chance to recover, striking its head, neck, wings, and stomach in quick succession. His attacks weren’t meant to kill it but to weaken it enough for him to forcefully knock it away.
While Nyx handled one monster, Simon struggled against the multiple creatures that continued targeting him.
He swept his staff through the air, using his wind energy to create sharp currents and swirling tornadoes that pushed the monsters aside. However, their attacks were relentless.
They could only knock the creatures back, not seriously injure or kill them, while the monsters continued leaving wounds on their bodies.
One monster struck Simon with its wing, leaving injuries across his hand and face. Despite the pain, he continued moving, weaving his staff through the air and summoning stronger waves of wind against them.
Nyx, being physically weaker, struggled even more. Two monsters quickly surrounded him, overwhelming him as he fell back onto the ground.
He forced himself up as the creatures flew toward him and grabbed him with their claws.
"Ah!"
Nyx cried out as they lifted him into the air, swinging him around violently. He tried fighting back with his staff, but the force of their movements eventually caused him to lose his grip.
As he reached down to retrieve it, one of the monsters grabbed his arm with its claws. The sudden force threw him downward, and he crashed into the snow as he reached for his weapon.
Pain shot through his hand, but Nyx ignored it and picked up the staff. Blood dripped from his injured hand, staining the white snow beneath him.
"Ah..." he groaned softly, staring at the blood dripping from his fingers.
It hurt, but this wasn’t the time to focus on his injury.
Nyx slowly raised his head, expecting another monster to already be coming toward him. However, what he saw left him frozen.
It wasn’t just one monster.
All of them had suddenly abandoned Simon and turned toward him.
The creatures spread their wings and charged toward Nyx with a vicious hunger, as if they intended to tear him apart together.
Nyx tightened his grip on his staff, his expression turning shocked.
"What the..."
Before the monsters could reach him, Simon rushed forward and grabbed him, pulling him into the air. He kicked against the approaching creatures, sending powerful waves of wind backward as they chased after them.
The monsters had become far more aggressive than before. Their mouths dripped with slime as they released vicious growls, charging through the waves of wind Simon threw at them.
Simon fought them with everything he had. He pushed his abilities beyond their normal limits, using every bit of strength he could gather while feeling his energy rapidly draining.
With every passing moment, his body grew heavier. His vision blurred, and dizziness began taking over as his power started reaching its limit.
