Chapter 75: 75: I’M SORRY.

Nyx abruptly opened his eyes with a sharp gasp, staring up at the ceiling as sweat ran down his face. He was having a nightmare, the same nightmare he always had—the nightmare of losing his brother in the anomaly dungeon. By now, he was already used to it.

As he panted, slowly calming his nerves, he looked around his surroundings. It took him a moment to realize where he was.

A hospital.

Confused, he ran a hand through his hair, trying to understand and recall how he had ended up there. Then, as he turned to his side, he saw June lying with his head resting against the side of his bed.

Nyx remained still as he stared at him. He thought for a moment, slowly recalling that they had been inside an anomaly dungeon. From there, it was easy to remember the rest.

"Oh..." he murmured softly, slowly nodding as he stared down at June.

For the next few seconds, Nyx found himself admiring June’s face. His eyes remained glued to his long, pretty lashes, his pointed nose, his full, rosy lips, and his smooth skin. Nyx simply couldn’t look away.

He swallowed as he continued staring at June’s face, losing track of how long he had been watching him. And as though staring wasn’t enough, he slowly stretched out his hand toward June’s hair.

Nyx’s heart fluttered as his fingers reached June’s soft hair. He gently ran a finger through the strands, feeling how smooth they were.

As he touched his hair, Nyx found himself smiling while staring at his face. He couldn’t help it.

"Mmm..." June groaned as he slowly turned his head to the side.

Immediately, Nyx panicked and pulled his hand away. However, the cuff of his shirt had somehow caught onto June’s hair. When Nyx pulled his hand, he accidentally tugged on June’s hair as well.

"Ouch!" June let out a sharp cry as his eyes flew open.

Nyx’s hand pulled toward his side, and June’s head followed, leaving him struggling to keep his hair intact.

"Ouch, ouch! What...?" June panicked as he grabbed his neck. "Not the hair!"

He struggled to understand what the hell was happening.

Nyx’s eyes widened in shock as he tried pulling again to free himself. "Ah... no..."

But the harder he pulled, the more June’s head followed his hand, leaving June desperately struggling to save both his head and his hair.

"Not the hair!" June cried, clutching his neck firmly.

The two of them remained like that, chaotically struggling with Nyx’s cuff and June’s hair, pulling and pushing in opposite directions.

"Sorry! I’m... I’m sorry!" Nyx apologized frantically, continuing to pull without even understanding what was happening. He only wanted to set June free.

"Don’t... stop pulling!" June imagined himself going bald in the near future if Nyx kept tugging like this.

He didn’t want to go bald while looking this young!

"Don’t pull..." June tried to say, but the words came too late. Nyx had already pulled hard enough for his cuff to finally come free.

"Ouch!" June cried as his head snapped upright. He immediately reached for his hair, checking how many strands were left.

But before he could even finish, Nyx rolled off the bed and hit the floor with a loud thud.

"Ouch!"

June immediately panicked. "Nyx! Are you okay?" he asked, getting to his feet to help him.

Nyx quickly scrambled upright. He was far too embarrassed to let June find him lying on the floor, so he straightened himself and quickly said, "I’m fine."

"Sure?" June stared at him suspiciously.

"Yes, I am." Nyx nodded profusely.

Then he bit his lower lip as he raised his hand. A single strand of hair could be seen between his fingers.

June’s eyes widened as tears seemed to form in his eyes. He touched his hair before staring at Nyx.

"That..."

"You’re not bald yet," Nyx said, trying to console him.

June got Nyx something to eat before sitting beside him, his arms folded as he watched Nyx eat like an overprotective babysitter.

It was vegetable soup, and Nyx squeezed his face from time to time as he struggled to eat it.

June watched him firmly, making sure he finished every bite without missing anything.

Nyx glanced at him. "Can I get some sweets... or something?"

"No. Not now. Finish that first," June said firmly.

Nyx bit his lower lip, nodded, and continued eating.

June stared at him for a moment before smiling. He shook his head, then reached for a milk drink he had bought from the store outside.

"Here. Have this."

Nyx stared at the drink, nodded, and took it. As he drank, June smiled at him.

However, while staring at Nyx, June couldn’t help but recall what he had discovered from the system.

Thinking about Nyx’s backstory simply broke his heart every time he looked at him. He didn’t deserve that storyline, nor the ending that awaited him.

Nyx finished drinking and turned toward June, only to find him staring.

He blinked before running a hand across his face. "Is there something on my face...?"

June smiled and shook his head.

"Why are you staring...? Did I do something wrong?"

June continued smiling as he shook his head.

"I’m sorry..."

Silence lingered through the room as June stared at him.

"Sorry...?" Nyx asked, confused. "For what...?"

June inhaled deeply before slowly exhaling.

"I’m sorry for being a jerk to you. I’m sorry for everything I did to piss you off."

June wasn’t only apologizing for what his original character had done. He was also apologizing for all his attempts to sabotage Nyx without ever truly understanding him.

Nyx sat quietly, surprised as he stared at June.

June continued with a gentle smile. "I didn’t understand you well enough. I guess I misunderstood you because of some story stereotypes and everything..."

He sighed before looking at Nyx with a firm expression.

"But don’t worry. From now on, you can count on me. I won’t let anyone hurt you again. Not even that dumb Minister, and not even your parents."

Nyx’s expression softened, shifting from confusion to realization.

After hearing June mention his parents, he finally understood.

June knew something about the way they treated him.
