Nyx stiffened as he looked down at his hand. He quickly pulled it closer to his side, hiding the potential injuries beneath the sheets. He didn’t want June to see them.

June stared at his hand with a soft smile before looking at his face.

"No need. I didn’t see that or know about it. I..." He hesitated, but eventually decided it was better to be honest. "I actually saw through your memories while guiding you in that dungeon earlier."

Silence filled the room.

Nyx stared at June for a while, confusion spreading across his face as he tried to understand what he meant.

Then, realization finally dawned on him.

His expression softened.

"You saw... everything?"

June hesitated before nodding.

"Well, a good number of things."

June gave him a brief summary of what he had seen, at least the parts concerning Nyx’s past. He deliberately left out anything related to his potential future in the story.

When he finished, silence returned.

Nyx sat there staring at his hand, quietly digesting the fact that June knew so much about him. He didn’t know how to feel about it. He had never wanted June to know.

He wanted to appear normal in front of him, at least.

The bruised marks were still visible on his hand when June slowly reached out and took it.

Nyx became nervous, wondering what June would say.

Instead, June smiled as he looked at his injured hand.

"It’s okay. I’m here now. You don’t have to be nervous at all."

He smiled at Nyx.

The two stared at each other for a while before June sighed.

"It must have been hard for you to carry all that burden alone."

His smile softened.

"It’s okay. It’s not your fault. You did well. You did great."

Those words seemed to melt into Nyx’s heart.

He felt something flutter inside his chest as he listened to June. For once, he felt seen. Comforted. Safe.

Nyx slowly looked at him.

"Did he hurt you...? Mr. Kevin? I heard his voice back then, but I was too weak to help you. I’m sorry..."

June smiled.

"No need for that. I’m not some kind of weakling." He folded his arms confidently. "I handled it just fine. So rest assured... I’ll handle everything from now on."

"No. But I also have to protect you..."

June smiled.

"Sure. Then you can do that. But I’ll protect you more."

He reached out and gently patted Nyx’s hair.

"I’ll always protect my golden boy from now on."

Nyx’s heart fluttered.

He blinked before lowering his gaze.

"I lost my brother because of him... So I can’t let him harm you. I can’t let him hurt anyone I care about again."

June blinked in surprise.

Did Nyx just refer to me as someone he cares about?

Nyx stared at him and continued.

June hesitated before slowly nodding.

He glanced down at the meal.

"Let’s not think about that right now. You should eat more so you can take your medicine."

Nyx slowly nodded and returned to his vegetable soup. This time, he ate without much complaint.

There were still many things Nyx wanted to discuss with June, but he couldn’t bring himself to say everything at once.

After a moment of hesitation, he finally asked, "So... we’re a pair now?"

June stared at him with his arms folded, a smile on his face.

Nyx found himself smiling.

He was happy to finally be a pair with June.
