Chapter 77: 77: TWO F - RANKERS

The academy had grown more bustling with students on this day. It wasn’t because new students had joined the academy, but because the seniors in the academy had finally returned.

The academy had three years of study. First-year students were the new intakes, which included June and Nyx. Then came the second years, followed by the third-year, or final-year, students.

Students underwent three years of training before they could graduate. During this period, they went through various forms of training and preparation, but they weren’t entirely bound to the academy.

From their second year onward, students had more flexibility to join organizations and take on similar jobs with the academy’s approval. This allowed them to put what they had learned into practice while continuing their training.

First-year students had resumed earlier because they had stricter schedules and were still adapting to academy life.

And unlike the previous two years, where approximately 200 - 300 students each were accepted and enrolled during their set, this year’s intake consisted of only 50 students. And it was rather a rare occurrence that had some students confused.

And on this day, the seniors had begun returning to the academy.

---

That morning, Mr. Kevin held an emergency meeting with the academy’s staff and administrators.

The Chancellor was present, along with the Principal and the Deans. They were all seated around the huge rectangular table in the grand meeting room while Mr. Kevin casually paced in front of them.

Silence filled the room.

They had already been discussing the matter for some time, and Mr. Kevin had made the purpose of the meeting clear.

The two F-Rankers.

Mr. Kevin sighed, irritation evident in his voice.

"He’s just a useless F-Rank Guide. A useless one at that... How the hell did he even get into the academy?"

"Well, he scored..." one of the teachers tried to explain.

Mr. Kevin immediately glared at her.

"I didn’t ask you. Of course I know what happened. Don’t you know what a rhetorical question is?"

"..."

Mr. Kevin fell silent again, his expression darkening as he turned away.

"It makes no sense. Some F-Rank Guide being able to handle that..."

He sighed.

Mr. Kevin knew that Nyx was Nil’s younger brother, so he had a few theories about how Nyx had been able to withstand the strength connected to the anomaly dungeon.

But June? He couldn’t understand him at all.

How could an F-Rank Guide handle such madness when he couldn’t even solve the puzzle while Nil was still around?

"For an F-Rank... he seems to have some strange abilities."

He couldn’t help but recall the embarrassing moments he had suffered because of June.

"That brat... He’s really something."

He turned toward the others.

"Yesterday, how did he do that? Does anyone know what that bastard did to me?"

Everyone fell silent, exchanging uncertain glances. No one seemed to have an answer.

After a moment, Mr. Watt, the professor who openly disliked June, spoke.

"He’s known as a powerless F-Rank Guide. Someone who can’t guide anyone, let alone possess any abilities. He’s no different from a non-awakened person. So whatever happened yesterday... simply doesn’t make sense."

Mr. Kevin raised his chin.

"Of course I know. That’s why I’m asking whether anyone has a valid explanation for what happened."

Mr. Watt continued, "I doubt that F-Rank Guide could have magically developed some skills. It’s clear he must have used some silly trick back then."

Mr. Kevin nodded in agreement.

"True. Some cheap trick, indeed."

With both hands behind his back, he thought for a moment before speaking again.

"I’ll leave that to all of you. Find out what cheap trick he used... and..."

He stared at them.

"Find a valid excuse to expel that brat."

Silence filled the room as everyone exchanged uneasy glances.

Mr. Ken clearly wasn’t pleased. He wanted to speak, but Mr. Yen, who was sitting beside him, quietly held his hand. When Mr. Ken looked at him, Mr. Yen shook his head, silently urging him to remain calm.

Mr. Ken eventually relented.

"Expel him...?" the Chancellor asked.

"That F-Rank Guide is useless to the academy. He has nothing important to offer, so why waste the national budget on someone like him? The President won’t be pleased."

Mr. Kevin cleared his throat before continuing.

"And yesterday was only a glimpse of the trouble that kid could bring us. We don’t need any of that, especially from someone who challenges my authority."

His expression hardened.

"So find a reason to expel that kid. Any minor offense will serve as a reason."

Silence followed.

No one dared to oppose him. As the Minister of Esper and Guide Affairs, Mr. Kevin held considerable authority over the academy, and everyone in the room understood that challenging him wouldn’t end well.

Mr. Ken still looked ready to speak, but Mr. Yen held him back again.

Across the table, Mr. Ethan and Mr. Drax simply watched them in silence.

Mr. Watt nodded.

"You’re absolutely right. Someone as stubborn and troublesome as him will only cause more trouble for the academy in the future. He’s not worth keeping."

He added, "Besides, he’s just an F-Rank Guide who isn’t of much use to anyone. We’ll do as you say."

Mr. Kevin cleared his throat and nodded.

"That’s more like it."

He turned away, both hands clasped behind his back.

"And again..."

He hesitated before continuing.

"That kid... Nyx Faux. The other F-Rank Esper."

The moment Nyx’s name was mentioned, the atmosphere stiffened.

The Chancellor exchanged a glance with the Principal before looking back at Mr. Kevin.

"And what about him, if we may ask?" the Chancellor questioned.

Mr. Kevin was silent for a moment before clearing his throat.

"I need him at my organization. He’s a rare-talent Esper, and I think it would be a waste if he isn’t properly looked into."

No one was fooled by his carefully chosen words. Everyone understood exactly what he meant.

Mr. Kevin hesitated before adding,

"So I need you to hand him over to me."
