Chapter 82: 82: NOT - SO AVOIDING.

In the original novel, Simon and Finn had shared their first kiss at the party.

It wasn’t one born out of true love. It was Simon’s way of protecting Finn, who had been bullied and looked down on by everyone, including June himself.

So, Simon had stepped forward to defend him. It was an epic romantic scene that had readers screaming. Simon announced to everyone that they were "dating" and warned them not to dare look down on Finn again.

And to solidify his point, he ended up kissing Finn.

Thus began their fake-dating era.

June casually rolled his eyes at the thought of the scene. He certainly didn’t want to witness their love manifesting right before his eyes. After all, his character was supposed to be there to facilitate the bullying and ultimately end up humiliated.

But June was too lazy to stick to that script.

He wanted no part in it!

"I’ll pass," June said, shaking his head.

"Huh? Why?" Ryan glared at him. "I thought you’d be excited for it?"

June would have been if he didn’t know what was going to happen at the party. I mean, who wouldn’t want to attend such a grand event?

"I’m busy," June said.

"Busy with what?" Ryan asked as June flipped through the book lying on the table.

"With studying... I have to take..." June glanced at the book. "This book seriously if I want to know how to sync manas or something..." He nodded solemnly.

"That’s a BL manhwa," Ryan said.

"Exactly," June replied.

Ryan sighed. "Too bad. I wanted to go with you. It would’ve been more fun. I believe a lot of gossip would be flying around too."

"Beside, since you’re still going viral with the strange power tricks you pulled on those government people a while back, I’m sure people would be most curious to see you there. So you could ride on with that popularity"

June smiled it off. He was certain at least that one of the things everyone was talking about was the trending video of Mr Kevin and his men caving in to his demands.

He had basically gone viral across the academy and amongst seniors because of that, coupled with the fact that he’s an F rank guide who survived an anomaly dungeon with an F rank Esper.

It was certain that everyone already had theories as to how he was able to pull that off. Some tagged it manipulation, some suggested it was some cheap tricks.

Ryan had even asked him what it was all about after he returned and June had casually laughed it off and said it was some cheap tricks - Ryan reluctantly believed him.

So if anything was certain, it was the fact that June didn’t want to be present at that academy party with all that attention because of his trending acts. It was a hassle.

June stared at Ryan. "But didn’t you say you’d be studying some mathematical dungeon theory or something this weekend?"

"..."

Ryan smiled awkwardly. "We can do that next week."

June folded his arms. "Too bad. I’ll take my education seriously from now on. So, no party for me."

Ryan turned away. "What a bummer. Enjoy your competition."

He grabbed a comic book and made his way to his bed.

June shook his head. "You little jerk."

Finn soon made his way into the room with a pile of books in his hands. Silence fell over the room as the two stared at him, but Finn didn’t acknowledge either of them.

The silence lingered as Finn put his books away before heading straight to bed without saying a word.

None of them spoke to each other again. June eventually went to take his bath before retiring to bed for the night.

---

June lay in bed that night, preparing to sleep, when his phone beeped.

He had finally gotten a message from Nyx after such a long time.

Excited, he picked up his phone and took a look.

[I’m fine.]

June stared at the message for a while. He thought about what to say before finally typing.

[I haven’t seen you at school for a while now. Are you really okay?]

It took a while before Nyx replied.

[Mmm. I’m fine.]

June lay there, staring at the message several times. He couldn’t help but feel skeptical. Even though Nyx said he was fine, something about it didn’t feel right.

June was worried that something might have happened, especially since Nyx was still living with his parents.

He hesitated for a moment before typing again.

[When will you be back at school? I want to meet you.]

While waiting for a response, June couldn’t help wondering if he could visit Nyx himself. But he also had to consider that Nyx might not want him to come.

He lay there thinking about what he could possibly do when another message finally arrived.

[Let’s meet up at the party.]

[There will be a welcome party this evening. I’ll be able to make it. Let’s meet there.]

His messages were short and direct, as though he was either trying to type quickly or simply wasn’t good at texting.

June couldn’t tell.

But at least he had gotten an answer.

[Okay.]

June replied after giving it some thought.

Nyx didn’t text back.

June continued staring at the message.

He didn’t want to attend the party at all. He had already made up his mind about that.

But now that it was the one place where Nyx could meet him, he had no choice but to go.

Even if it meant getting close to the plot, he would do it as long as he got to meet Nyx.

June was worried about him and could only hope that he was okay. He could only pray that Nyx could hold on a little longer while he figured out a way to come to his rescue.

He needed to get him out of his parents’ home.

At least that would be the first step toward saving him from his pathetic fate.

So, his priority now was finding a way to get Nyx out of that house.

---

Ryan woke up the next morning, rolling around in bed with a groan as he pushed aside the bedsheet. He was just getting ready to wake up and prepare for classes when he opened his eyes.

He froze.

June was standing before him with both arms folded, a broad smile flashing across his face.

Ryan was confused.

He looked around, making sure he wasn’t in the afterlife before looking back at June. He was speechless that June was already awake.

And not only was June awake, but he was also fully dressed, looking extravagant and ready to head somewhere.

Ryan rubbed his eyes before staring at him again.

"Am I dead, or did you actually wake up early today?"

June smiled. "You’d be lucky if you saw an angel this pretty if you were truly dead."

"But... that isn’t our uniform." Ryan frowned, sitting up.

"And who said we’re going to classes today, silly?" June asked with a smile.

Ryan raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"

A mischievous smile lingered on June’s face.

"The party is just around the corner, and we don’t have any clothes worth attending it with. So..." He grabbed Ryan and pulled him out of bed. "Get your ass up and let’s go shopping!"
