Chapter 97: 97: NO THANKS

That weekend, June got ready early and left to meet Lucas at the restaurant where they were supposed to meet.

It was a luxurious five-star restaurant, the kind of place where even the smallest details screamed wealth.

June stepped out of the car Raymond was driving. While Raymond waited outside, June made his way inside to wait for Lucas.

He was almost at the entrance when he suddenly bumped into someone.

June stopped as their eyes locked.

The figure standing before him looked extremely familiar.

Tall, silver hair, silver eyes, elegant male clothing, a model-like body, and an ultimately pretty face. June couldn’t decide whether he actually recognized him or simply envied him for looking that good.

The pretty man smiled at him and extended his hand.

"Greetings. You are Mr. En, correct?"

June stared at him, trying to figure out where he could have known him from. Was it because of his scandals? Or perhaps the news about him entering an anomaly dungeon?

He couldn’t tell.

June smiled politely and accepted his hand.

"Greetings..."

He stared at that pretty face.

That smile was rather suspicious.

And at that moment, June realized he definitely knew this person.

"And you are?"

"Let’s not waste time. I’ll cut straight to the chase." Syll smiled as he pulled out a business card and handed it to him.

"The name is Syll. I’m from the Red Dust Guild."

Syll continued, "I’m essentially the CEO of the organization. I heard about you from the news, and, well..." He smiled. "You could say I’m quite interested in having you join our guild."

June stared at the card, then at Syll.

And immediately, everything clicked.

"Oh..."

He remembered the character from the book.

And for a very good reason, June wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.

"I’m okay." June smiled. "I have no interest in joining any guild."

Syll raised an eyebrow.

He had expected some resistance, but apparently, it wouldn’t be that easy.

"I understand the pressure and everything, especially with the situation you’re currently dealing with. But you can take your time. You don’t have to join immediately. Pay us a visit or something. Let’s start somewhere. I’ll be waiting."

June smiled.

"Thanks for being interested, but I’m definitely not interested in joining any guild right now. So go look for other S-Rankers. I know plenty who have been pestering me lately."

He turned to leave.

"I’ll take my leave now."

But before he walked away, June suddenly turned around and looked at Syll again.

"And... there’s no need to go after Nyx either. He’s not interested. And I won’t be kind to anyone who insists that he should be."

June was smiling.

But there was an unmistakable threat behind that smile.

He winked at the silver-haired young man before turning around and majestically striding into the restaurant.

"..."

Syll stood there, speechless as he watched June disappear.

"That little..."

He ran a hand through his hair, frustrated.

"I was even being nice and respectful. I’m never nice and respectful... and yet that little..."

He sighed.

"I guess being nice isn’t an option."

He bit his lower lip, already reconsidering his approach.

A soft laugh came from behind him.

Grey En approached and stopped beside Syll, glancing at the business card still in his hand.

"Wow. We’re stalking them now?" he teased. "I didn’t expect that to fail so badly."

Syll immediately cast him a cold glare.

"I’m not stalking. I’m simply meeting him."

He cleared his throat.

"And it’s only the first trial. I can always convince him."

Grey smiled, stroking his chin.

"I think you should give up. I was actually scared June would agree immediately because he’s so obsessed with increasing his rank. But..." He shrugged. "Since he refused you, you should probably give up. He won’t change his mind."

Syll rolled his eyes.

"Whatever. We’ll just have to see about that."

He turned and walked away.

Grey stood there watching him leave and shook his head. "Persistent, I see..."

---

Inside the restaurant, June had already taken a seat. He glanced back toward the entrance, catching one last glimpse of Syll and Grey.

He bit his lower lip.

"Is it too late to save that dummy from his fate?"

He thought about it for a moment.

"Should I even bother? Or should I leave the two of them to follow the plotline? Or maybe I should just tell him...?"

June sighed and shook his head.

"I’ve gotten way too involved in this damn plotline. I should take a rest or something..."

He was still waiting for Lucas when Grey suddenly came over and sat beside him.

"What?" Grey asked when he noticed June staring at him. "Do I have poop on my face?"

June rolled his eyes.

"Nothing..."

He looked away, biting his lower lip.

"You..."

He had wanted to stay out of it, but he guessed he should at least protect his brother.

"Stay away from that silver-haired dude."

"You mean Syll? Why?" Grey frowned. "He’s my boss. I can’t even stay away from him if I wanted to."

He paused.

"Besides, why are you suddenly against him? What did he do to you? Because he invited you to join us?"

June rolled his eyes.

"Dumb."

"Who are you calling dumb, you little..."

June glared at him.

"I know you like him and all. I know everything between you two."

"...."

Grey went completely speechless.

"What rubbish are you talking about, you little rascal?"

"I’m just telling you to stay away from him. It won’t work out between you two. And he’s not as easy as you think he is."

June sighed.

"That silly brain of yours knows nothing. So stop now before you get hurt again."

"...."

Grey stared at him helplessly.

"You rascal... what are you even saying? I don’t know what you’re—"

"You can keep denying it as if you two didn’t have a whole romance going on back in high school."

June sighed dramatically.

"But he ended up breaking your heart. And now you two are back together as boss and employee. That’s basically the reason you don’t want to leave the organization."

He gave Grey a knowing look.

"You’re hoping for a second-chance romance."

June shook his head.

"Such a hopeless romantic brother I have."

"..."

Grey was completely speechless.

He stared at June as though he had just grown another head.

"You... How did you...?"

June smiled and leaned closer.

"I just do."

He grinned. "You have such a smart little brother, don’t you?"

"...."
