Chapter 61: 61. Lang Li jealousy

AT THE SAME TIME EVENING

XAVIER

The banquet was surprisingly peaceful. No mysterious memories, no system emergencies, no royal arguments. For once, I thought I might actually finish a meal without something happening. Then princess Jan Win reached across the table and gently took my hand.

"Prince Wei." She said.

"Yes?"I looked at her.

"I would like you to visit the Silver River empire."Princess Jan Wan said.

"Me?"I nearly dropped my spoon.

"I want to show you our imperial gardens. Since you understand herbs and cooking better than most physicians, I believe you might be able to help us."She nodded.

"How long?"I hesitated.

"Several days."Jan Wan said.

Before I could answer, Lang Li spoke.

"No."Lang Li said.

The entire table went silent.

"No?"Jan Win slowly turned toward him.

"You can not take Wei away." Lang Li said.

"I was asking him, not you."Jan Win raised an eyebrow.

"He has responsibilities here."Lang Li’s golden eyes narrowed.

"I see." Jan Win looked at me. "Then perhaps another time."

"I appreciate your hospitality, Emperor."She released my hand and stood.

She bowed politely before leaving with her guards. I watched her disappear through the doors.

"Lang Li." Jan Wan said.

"What?"He looked at me.

"You could have let me answer."I said.

"I didn’t want you to leave."His expression softened.

I stared at him. That answer somehow made my heart beat faster. Later that evening, I finally returned to my room. I changed into comfortable clothes and was about to lie down when I heard the door quietly open.

"Lang Li?"I turned.

"Why are you here?"He stepped inside without answering.

He walked toward me, I barely had time to react before his arms wrapped around me from behind. I froze.

"Just for a moment."His chin rested lightly against my shoulder.

"Are you jealous?"My face warmed. "Lang Li?"

He was silent.

"Maybe." I couldn’t help smiling.

"You’re impossible." I said.

"Stay."His arms tightened slightly. "Stay here with me."

And suddenly, I understood that his refusal earlier hadn’t been about politics. He simply didn’t want to let me go. A Lang Li didn’t let go. Instead, he seemed to settle more comfortably behind me, his arms wrapped securely around my waist.

"Lang Li..." I whispered.

"Hm?" Lang Li said.

"You’re still holding me."I said.

"I know."He said.

"You’re supposed to let go eventually."I stared at the wall.

"I don’t want to." Lang Li said.

His answer was so quiet that I didn’t know how to respond. He rested his cheek against my shoulder, almost like he had forgotten he was an Emperor and was simply someone who wanted to be close to another person. I could feel his warm breath against my neck, as he pressed a soft kiss against the back of my neck. I froze.

"Lang Li!"My entire face immediately heated.

"What?"He asked.

"You kissed my neck!" I gasped.

"I did."He said.

"Why?"He sounded completely unbothered.

"Because you’re here."He said.

That answer somehow made my brain malfunction even more.

"Ding. RELATIONSHIP UPDATE Lang Li to Wei: 56% Reason: Physical affection and emotional attachment."A system said.

"System!"I nearly screamed.

"Is it doing that again?"Lang Li chuckled quietly behind me.

"You heard it?"I asked.

"Unfortunately."He said.

"Stop teasing me."He kissed my hair this time, making me tense.

"I am not."I said.

"Then why are you smiling?"I asked.

"Because you’re blushing." He said.

"I am not."I said.

"You are."He said.

I covered my face with both hands. Lang Li laughed softly and pulled me closer, for several seconds, neither of us spoke, then he whispered.

"I don’t care what Princess Jan Win wants."Lang Li said.

"Lang Li..."I lowered my hands.

"I don’t want another kingdom taking you away."Lang Li said.

His voice was unusually vulnerable.

"You’re really worried about me leaving?"I slowly relaxed against him.

"Yes."He said.

"Then you should probably stop kidnapping me from my own kitchen."I sighed.

"I will consider it."I said.

"You won’t."He said.

"No." I laughed despite myself, and somehow, his arms around me no longer felt as surprising as they had a few minutes ago.

I was still leaning against Lang Li when the system suddenly chimed.

"Ding."A system said.

"No."I immediately closed my eyes.

"Another notification?"Lang Li chuckled.

"Unfortunately." A glowing screen appeared in front of us.

"RELATIONSHIP STATUS UPDATED Lang Li and Xavier: 58%. Xavier and Lang Li: 60%."A system said.

"Wait."I stared.

"It went up again?"I blinked twice.

"Apparently."Lang Li looked at the screen, then at me.

"Why?" I asked.

"Reason: Increased emotional closeness, trust, and physical affection."The system answered immediately.

"Physical affection?"My face became warm.

"I suppose that explains it."Lang Li’s arms tightened around me.

"Don’t sound so pleased!"I gasped.

"I am pleased."He said.

I groaned and covered my face.

"SPECIAL CONDITION DETECTED. Emperor Lang Li’s attachment is approaching a significant threshold.

Warning: Further emotional bonding may trigger a hidden relationship event."Another notification appeared.

"A hidden relationship event?"I slowly lowered my hands.

"What kind?"Lang Li’s expression became curious.

"I don’t know." I said.

"CLASSIFICATION: CONFIDENTIAL."The system flickered.

"System!"I gasped.

The screen vanished as I stared at the empty air.

"That wasn’t helpful."I sighed.

Lang Li rested his chin on my shoulder again.

"I don’t mind."He said.

"Of course you don’t." I said.

"I already know what I want."He smiled.

"What?"I swallowed.

"You."He said.

"Ding. Lang Li and Xavier: 59%."A system said.

"IT WENT UP AGAIN!"I stared at the notification in horror.

Lang Li laughed quietly.

"This system is evil."I buried my face in my hands.

"Perhaps."He said.

"But I like it."He hugged me tighter.

"You’re both impossible."I groaned.

For a moment, neither of us said anything. The room had become strangely quiet, only the faint sound of music from the distant banquet hall drifted through the palace corridors. Lantern light slipped through the curtains, casting warm golden patterns across the floor. Lang Li was still standing behind me, his arms remained around my waist. I could feel the steady rhythm of his breathing against my shoulder.

"You’re unusually quiet." I murmured.

"So are you."He said.

"I’m trying to understand what just happened."I said.

"You mean the system?"Lang Li asked.

"Partly." I hesitated. "Mostly you."

"Me?"Lang Li loosened his arms slightly.

"You keep doing things that confuse me."I turned enough to look at him.

"Such as?"He asked.

"Following me around." I said.

"I have responsibilities."He said.

"Coming into my room."I said.

"I wanted to see you."He said.

"Refusing to let Princess Jan Win take me to the Silver River empire." I said.

"That one was intentional."His expression became serious. "And now you’re hugging me from behind."

"I like holding you."I said.

"You say these things far too casually."I stared at him.

"Should I make them less casual?"He asked.

"I don’t know."I said.

"I don’t either."Lang Li smiled faintly.

He slowly released me. For some reason, I immediately missed the warmth. I turned around fully, we stood facing each other. His golden eyes met mine, there was something different about his expression now. The usual confidence of the Lycan emperor had disappeared, replaced by something quieter. Something almost uncertain.

"Wei."Lang Li began.

"Hm?"I asked.

"Can I do something?"He asked.

"That sounds suspicious."I blinked.

"Probably."He laughed softly.

"What is it?"I asked.

Instead of answering, Lang Li lifted one hand. His fingers gently brushed a loose strand of hair away from my face and I froze.

His fingers gently brushed a loose strand of hair away from my face, and I froze. For a moment, Lang Li simply looked at me.

"Wei." He said softly.

"Yes?"I asked.

"I’ve been wanting to do this for a while."He said.

"Do what?"My heart skipped.

He leaned closer as I instinctively held my breath. His golden eyes stayed fixed on mine, waiting.

"Can I kiss you?"Lang Li asked.

"Lang Li..."My face immediately warmed.

"I’ll stop if you want me to."Lang Li said.

"I didn’t say no."I looked away for a second, then slowly met his gaze again.

A faint smile appeared on his face, he leaned closer. Just as our faces were inches apart the bedroom door suddenly opened.

"Wei, I need to speak with-" Song Hue stopped as walked inside.

Lang Li stopped as I stopped breathing. Song Hue stared at us, and his red eyes slowly moved from Lang Li’s face to mine. Silence filled the room.

"Am I interrupting something?"Song Hue asked.

"No!"I immediately stepped backward.

"Yes."Lang Li calmly turned toward the doorway.

"LANG LI!" Song Hue’s expression became unreadable. "I see."

"I suppose I arrived at an inconvenient time."He slowly stepped into the room.

"This can not be happening."I covered my face.

"ROMANTIC EVENT INTERRUPTED. INTERRUPTER: SONG HUE. DANGER LEVEL: HIGH."Then the system appeared.

"What exactly did I interrupt?"Song Hue stared at the glowing message.

I wanted the floor to swallow me.
