The entire time they had been traveling the jungle together, neither Cia nor Peter had seen a single person around. So to finally come across a class of them was almost something like a miracle, but they all seemed to be scared, running away from something, but what?
"Should we run?" Peter asked.
"No point, we can’t move fast enough," Cia replied.
The class had come into the clearing where the two were, and turned around facing the jungle, weapons prepared. Del had come up to Cia and Peter, looking startled.
"Are you two from another class?" Del pleaded.
Cia and Peter nodded, and there seemed to be a glimmer of hope in his eyes, "Are they nearby? Please tell me they are."
Cia shook her head, "No, we got separated from them, we were hoping you’d—"
Del took a step back, his expression turning into that of despair, "Damn it!"
The two didn’t say anything for a moment, and just stared at each other in disbelief.
"... Out of the frying pan, and into the fire," Cia muttered, and Peter nodded in agreement.
"Healers, and support type abilities, come and stay behind me," Del commanded, "Anyone who uses a beast weapon as their main attack, come closer to me now!"
The ones that mainly used beast weapons had gone over to Del, and Peter had a sudden realization. He knew two people who used beast weapons in this class.
"Wait, Erin uses a sword! Would that mean Quinn is—" Peter said, looking around.
His logic was that Erin was in Del’s class, which would mean that Quinn was likely with her. He tried to see if he could find his friends, but right as he was about to go around, Cia grabbed his hand.
"Where are you going?" Cia said, "There’s clearly danger about to come our way, and we’re injured. We have to stay back."
Peter bit his tongue. He wanted to argue otherwise, but Cia did have a point. They couldn’t just move around listlessly right when trouble is about to arrive.
"My ability allows me to double the strength and durability of any beast weapon for a limited time. We need to defeat the beast before time runs out!" Del told them.
They nodded, acknowledging what he said, and watched the jungle, waiting several agonizing minutes for trouble to arrive... but nothing came.
"Where did the beast go?" A student whispered.
"Are we saved?" Another asked.
He got punched in the arm as his friend told him, "You idiot, you just jinxed us all!"
Despite this, it really did seem like there was nothing coming after them, not even the earth shaking footsteps that came with its movements.
More students murmured amongst themselves, as if speaking too loud would garner the attention of the beast again.
"What do you think happened?"
"I heard about this once, some high tier beasts are pretty smart, and even a few refuse to attack us."
"Yeah, but this one clearly ate our classmates."
"Well, I don’t know! It’s a mystery to us all."
While they were discussing everything, over with Quinn, Layla, Vorden and Fex, they were having other thoughts.
"Erin did stay behind to fight the beast," Layla brought up, "Do you think she...?"
"Knowing her, she’s probably having the ’time of her life’ letting out all of her anger from this planet," Fex commented.
Checking the system, Quinn was hoping to find a clue there, and saw that Erin’s stats had actually improved a little. Not only that, but her health was partially down, indicating she was likely in some sort of fight.
’Did she stay behind just to drink the blood of the students who had died?’ Quinn thought.
"Indeed she did, but at the same time, she is fighting off the flora saur right now as we speak," the system said, "Although, I would recommend not messaging her right now as she is quite focused in battling it."
Quinn wanted to roll his eyes, but he couldn’t find himself to be that surprised. It was likely a good thing that she stayed behind as he could see in some alternative universe that if he were in Erin’s shoes, and stuck with Del, then maybe more people would’ve died.
While everyone was having a moment of silence for those who had fallen, as well as getting a breather, a student with light pink hair came over to Peter and Cia.
"Hey, I saw you two were already here, right?" She asked the two of them, "Well, I noticed your legs were broken."
"And what can you do about it?" Cia raised an eyebrow.
The girl crouched down, and hovered her hands above their legs, "I was with Del earlier, but since the beast isn’t here, I decided to go around and use my healing ability to help."
There was a warm soothing sensation around their legs as her hands began to glow. When she was done, she sat back, and wiped sweat off her forehead.
"Whew, it was good that your legs were already in splints, it made it easier to fix," She said with a tired smile.
Removing the earth splints off of their legs, both Cia and Peter moved them around without a single sliver of pain. The two smiled in relief.
"Thank you so much!" Peter said, and hugged the girl, which came as a surprise to her.
"O-oh, well, uh... You’re welcome?" She awkwardly replied.
The act of the two hugging had brought a frown on Cia’s face, and she squeezed her hands between the two of them, pushing them away, "Alright, that’s enough, you two can break it up."
The girl with the light pink hair took a step back, and bowed, then walked away to help heal the other students.
Cia turned to Peter, "Why were you hugging her for so long?"
"Because I wanted to thank her?" Peter tilted his head, "It’s been a really hard time, okay?"
She squinted at him, but let it go. Peter was under her thumb anyways.
Over around Del, a student was examining the situation, and wondered out loud, "What should we do now?"
—
Back in the jungle where the flora saur was, Erin had used the shadow cloak to hide from the beast, until all of the students from Del’s class had left. While she waited, she tasted the drops of blood on the ground, marginally improving her stats.
[Blood type B+ has been absorbed]
[+ 1 agility point has been added]
[Blood type Ab+ has been absorbed]
[+ 1 Stamina point has been added]
[Blood type O has been absorbed]
[+2 free stat points]
At the same time, now was the perfect time to allocate her free stat points. She had 2 left over from when she leveled up against Nate, meaning she had 4 free points to her name.
Mulling over what to do with the stat points, Erin came to a conclusion, ’Since this is an advanced tier beast, it would only make sense to improve my strength.’
Selecting to put it all into strength, she could feel her grip grow tighter, and her muscles improving. Now Erin had a natural strength level of 25, which was almost 30 if she included the stats from her sword.
’I’m sure of it, no one else had ever encountered this beast before, and if that’s the case then when I defeat it, I’ll get a lot of EXP, maybe even enough to level up a few times,’ Erin thought.
The beast was in the middle of consuming the corpse of a student who had already died, and while it was busy, this would provide the perfect time for a surprise attack.
By utilizing shadow cloak, Erin stuck to the shadows, getting closer to it, without it knowing. She couldn’t hide forever as the lightning tree from earlier had used up a large portion of her MC.
[MC 63/100]
’It’s not as much as I would like it to be, but it’ll have to do.’
Sneaking over to its tail, Erin turned off shadow cloak, and flash stepped over to its flower bud. She slashed at the bud, barely leaving a scratch, and it opened up, having its vines suction right where she was, but Erin jumped out of the way.
The vine suctioned into the ground, and the beast was trying to yank it off. However, there were 5 more Erin had to worry about as they all shot towards her.
Keeping light on her feet, Erin danced around them, remembering the footwork that Fex had used with her back on Caladi. Due to her agility being a 36, she was able to avoid each and every one of them. Suddenly, the vine that had suctioned onto the ground flung itself towards her back, only to get caught onto a shield of shadow.
’Don’t think you can sneak up on me!’
The beast took back 5 of its vines, shaking the 6 out of the shadow, and hovered them above its body, as if surprised it couldn’t easily defeat the creature in front of it.
Erin craned her neck, watching the beast carefully. Once before she was able to defeat an advanced tier beast with the help of Fex, and here she was, now having grown stronger since then.
’My ability is perfect against this beast. Even if I can’t dodge all the vines, I can catch them in the shadow,’ Erin thought, then lowered herself to a fighting stance, ’Bring it on, you’ll only make me even stronger!’
