Blood Queen Reborn

As the group was traveling up the staircase, there was a strange sensation within the air, like as if something shifted. It felt like the lightning tree, passive energy emitting into the environment, causing their hair to raise.

"I’m not going crazy right?" Fex commented, taking a step back, and whispered, "What if that’s the ancient vampire?"

"How could it be a sleeping vampire?" Erin shot back, "Neither of us have been on this planet before."

"I think you should listen to Fex," The system hesitantly said, "I was thinking it was impossible as well, but there’s a possibility. You see, the moment the Likmorn beast escaped from our grasp, it didn’t run into the city, but inside of the tower. I can’t say for certain, but that beast might’ve been given a command to wake up its master if a dangerous threat arrives."

The system continued, "At the time, I was thinking that the beast was simply wild, that’s what the quest message implied, so I didn’t consider it was tamed."

Quinn was listening in on the conversation with the system voice, and thought that it was odd the system voice was referring to the quest message as a separate entity, but Erin had a completely different question.

’How could the beast wake up a vampire? I thought it needed blood from its own family, unless you mean to tell me vampires are actually related to beasts.’

"Not at all, but it is possible there was a lever or a button the Likmorn used to activate a contraption that utilized stored blood, or if it melted a blood crystal, the very essence of a vampire being, by heating it up to high temperatures," The system explained.

Either way, as much as Erin didn’t want to let the EXP boost from the king tier beast to slip away, she could tell that whatever was woken up here was strong.

Erin clenched her fists, "Fine, guys, it’s too late to leave this town, but we can hide in the city if we’re fast enough."

Layla looked over the railing of the staircase, and the thought of going down them would take too long in her mind.

"How are we going to get out of here quickly?" she questioned, then thought, ’She’s not thinking of having us jump off the stairs, right?’

It was a pretty steep drop, one that would definitely cause some damage if they fell down it, and Layla didn’t want to risk getting hurt again.

"We’re jumping off the stairs," Erin stated.

Before anyone could question her, she leapt over the railing, and created a shadow right below her, a foot or two before she hit the ground. Then, she released the shadow, but as she did, she hit the ground at the same amount of momentum she had prior to using the shadow.

’Ow...’

In her haste, Erin forgot that the shadow doesn’t actually remove momentum, only held it in place temporarily.

Layla watched from above, and sighed. Sometimes Erin’s headstrong traits got in the way of her.

Logan jumped over the railing, and had his mech armor form thrusters at his feet, thereby slowing down his fall. Fex had Quinn get on his back, and utilized a string to descend from the staircase more slowly, leaving Layla and Vorden.

"Layla, carry me," Vorden stated.

"No way, can’t you use your regen—"

"There’s no time, we gotta go!"

Layla clenched her fists, but they didn’t have the time to argue. Lifting him up bridal style, she got up on the railing, and whispered "Don’t make this any more awkward then it has to be."

She jumped off, and landed on her feet with a sickening crack, but at least it wasn’t as high of a drop as when they first arrived in the tunnels. Still, it hurt like hell, and she dropped Vorden onto the floor.

Gritting her teeth, Layla rubbed her legs, "Owie. Can you pay me back with a nibble of your arm?"

Vorden got up to his feet, "We can discuss that after we get out of here."

When figuring out the best place to hide, they decided to pick a building at random, and entered inside. Due to a lack of furniture, there was more than enough space for everyone to walk around, but as extra measure, Quinn covered up the windows and doors with the black stone.

"I remember hearing that vampires when they awake from eternal slumber need some time for their bodies to fully wake up," Fex noted, "So they might not be able to smell us just yet."

"Might?" Vorden repeated.

"Well I don’t know!" Fex replied, "I haven’t seen it for myself, and a lot of you guys are human. Maybe the old vampire won’t mind me, Erin and Layla, but I can’t say the same for you three."

"So vampires have enhanced senses, strong enough to differentiate between species, correct?" Logan said out loud after a while of silently observing, "I could synthesize some sort of perfume to disguise our smells."

"That is if we can get out of here," Layla responded.

With the topic of escaping the building, Erin remembered a skill she had. Shadow cloak.

It would allow her to hide within the shadows and get a view of the area outside. There, she could see if there really was an ancient vampire nearby. Not only that, but with it being pitch black, the skill was at its most effective.

[Shadow cloak activated]

Erin’s body enveloped in a dark mist, and the group found themselves unable to see her.

"Quinn, open up the door, I’m going to scout ahead," Erin said.

It was a little strange hearing her voice, but being unable to see her, but Quinn realized what she was planning on doing.

Before he could release the stone on the door, a part of the shadow around Erin lifted, and coalesced into a figure. Before they could even comprehend why her shadow was acting strange, the figure lightened up into a man wearing comfortable clothes, and a red chained sword on his back.

The vampires of the group stared in shock, and fear, and although the humans couldn’t see it, they sensed that something in the air shifted. That was when the man’s eyes opened, glowing red, and they felt a powerful presence emanate from him that only felt fitting for an ancient vampire of old.

"Never thought I’d see the day humans and vampires are traveling together," The man then chuckled, "Although I think the vampires forgot that the humans can’t see in the dark."
