Chapter 230: Chapter 230: Rot In The Heavens

The arrival of the Primordial Horror did not just destroy the starlight table. The sheer mass of Azathoth shattered the conceptual foundation of the Apex Pantheon Hall.

BUZZZ!

The resulting shockwave of absolute decay did not travel through physical space. It rippled violently across the cosmic leylines, striking the hidden sanctuaries of gods who had not opened their eyes in millions of years.

Deep within the Nebula of Slumber, Oneris, the God of Eternal Rest, was violently thrown from his levitating bed.

For three entire cosmic epochs, Oneris had slept in a paradise of woven stardust and soft lilac clouds. His domain was the absolute embodiment of peace. But today, the clouds suddenly turned into abrasive, foul smelling ash.

BANG!

Oneris crashed onto the hard crystal floor of his temple. He coughed up a lungful of gray dust, his sleepy eyes snapping wide open in absolute outrage.

"What in the name of the original chaos is that repulsive stench?" Oneris bellowed, scrambling to his feet.

He then frantically dusted off his silk robes, which were currently fraying at the edges.

His chief herald, a six winged seraphim, materialized in a panic. The angel fell to his knees, violently coughing.

"My Lord Oneris!" the herald cried out. "Please forgive the intrusion! A wave of absolute decay just washed over the Nebula of Slumber! Millions of mortal dreamscapes have been instantly dissolved into nightmares!"

"Decay?" Oneris yelled, his face turning entirely red. "Who authorized decay in my sector? Tell Aethelgard to fix his wards immediately! I was having a magnificent dream about the birth of the Andromeda galaxy, and now my entire bedroom smells like a rotting leviathan carcass!"

"My Lord, the shockwave came directly from Aethelgard!" the herald sobbed. "The Prime Deity’s sanctum is the epicenter of the rot!"

Oneris froze completely. His divine mind struggled to process the information. "Aethelgard caused this? Are the Prime Deities throwing mud at each other again? Bring me my armor! I am going to march up there and beat the God of Cosmic Law with my pillows!"

Far across the God Realm, in the Emerald Expanse, the Goddess of the Eternal Bloom was having a much worse awakening.

Verdantis stood in the center of her infinite garden. She was the mother of all cosmic flora, a beautiful deity woven from vines and blooming galaxies. Her sanctuary was usually a cacophony of vibrant life and sweet floral perfumes.

Right now, her sanctuary was screaming.

The leaves on her celestial world trees were curling inward, turning a sickly shade of gray before crumbling into absolute nothingness. The sacred rivers of holy sap were coagulating into black sludge.

"My lotuses! My beautiful celestial lotuses! They took ten thousand years to bloom!" Verdantis shrieked, dropping to her knees.

She grabbed a handful of rotting soil, tears of pure golden nectar streaming down her face.

Dozens of nature spirits swarmed around her in a blind panic.

One senior dryad walked over and yelled,

"Goddess Verdantis! The roots of the realm are drinking pure poison! A spatial rift has opened at the very top of the Upper Court, and it is bleeding primordial rot into the groundwater!"

"Then build a quarantine wall, you fools!" Verdantis ordered hysterically. "Or cut the cosmic roots! Sever our connection to the Pantheon Hall! If we stay connected, my entire garden will turn into a graveyard!"

"We cannot sever the roots, my Goddess," the dryad wept. "The decay is eating the concept of separation itself. We are trapped with whatever they let inside!"

Meanwhile, inside the Grand Archive of Eternity, the God of Knowledge watched his life’s work vanish.

Archivist Vane stood on a floating crystalline platform, staring blankly as miles and miles of sacred glowing scrolls turned to gray dust.

He calmly pushed his glowing spectacles up his nose and spoke in a tone of absolute, murderous irritation.

"Who left the dimensional window open?" Vane asked quietly.

His head librarian, a being made entirely of glowing runes, frantically checked a glowing crystalline terminal.

"Lord Vane, the dimensional seals were not left open. They were completely incinerated by black and gold hellfire. The Tartarus Protocol was initiated by the Upper Court, but the target somehow reflected the payload directly back into our living room."

"Reflected Azathoth? Aethelgard thought he could weaponize the Blind Devourer, and he missed. He actually missed. Now my scrolls from the Second Epoch are fertilizer. I am going to write a very strongly worded cosmic edict about this."

Back at the epicenter of the disaster, the Apex Pantheon Hall was a scene of apocalyptic chaos.

The pristine white marble was entirely gone. The four Greater Deities were suspended in midair, desperately trying to avoid the snapping maws of the Jupiter sized sludge monster thrashing in the center of their ruined sanctuary.

"Hit it harder, Aethelgard!" Korvan roared, laughing with deranged hysteria. The God of War threw a concentrated blast of pure kinetic force at the beast, only to watch the kinetic energy get sucked directly into the gray flesh.

"ARGHH! My attacks are only making it fatter!"

"Then do not use energy, Korvan!" Aethelgard yelled back. "It eats energy! It eats concepts! You are feeding it, you absolute brute! We must use pure physical containment!"

"We are deities of energy and cosmic law, you absolute idiot! We do not have physical bodies dense enough to wrestle a planet made of antimatter!" Thalassa screamed from a safe distance. She was firing shards of absolute zero ice, which merely melted into the rotting sludge.

"Do something Aethelgard, fix this right now!"

"Can you all wait a little. I am trying to reestablish the spatial lock! But the entry point was sealed with Eragon’s fundamental hellfire! I cannot overwrite the lock!"

Down in the mortal realm, far away from the rotting panic of the God Realm, Neo stood calmly on the surface of his new planet. He tilted his head slightly, listening to a sound that only he could hear.

Deep within the absolute core of his soul, a massive presence was stirring.

It was a consciousness older than the stars themselves. It was heavy, dark, and overwhelmingly dense. For the first time since Neo had acquired the bloodline, the dormant will of the First Dragon was fully awake.

And it was laughing.

"HA HA HA HA."

The laughter carried the weight of a million collapsing suns, vibrating with pure, unadulterated amusement.

"I have slept for a very long time, little one," Eragon’s voice rumbled in Neo’s mind. " have witnessed the birth of creation. I have watched universes burn to ash. But this... this is truly the finest comedy I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing."

Neo smiled slightly, keeping his golden reptilian eyes fixed on the distant stars.

"I am glad you find it entertaining, Eragon," Neo replied mentally. "I thought you might be angry that I am using your sacred hellfire as a glorified doorstop."

"Angry?" Eragon laughed harder, the sound making Neo’s starlight bones vibrate. "You shoved the absolute manifestation of cosmic rot directly down Aethelgard’s throat. You used my hellfire to lock him inside a room with a starving beast. I am not angry, boy. I am incredibly proud. You fight exactly like a true dragon."

"No. They thought they could drop their garbage on my lawn. I merely returned it. Are you fully awake now?"

"Awake enough to watch the Upper Court drown in their own arrogance. But my true power is still heavily sealed. Your body is strong, but you need more divine sparks to handle my full manifestation. You need to eat more gods, little host."

"That is exactly the plan," Neo replied.

He severed the mental link and looked up at the Zenith Vanguard flagship hovering in orbit. The red warning lights on the massive warships had finally turned off. The threat of absolute decay was gone, safely locked away in the highest dimension.

Neo activated his communication link to the flagship.

"Noir," Neo spoke, his voice calm and commanding.

"I am here, my husband," Noir replied instantly. Her voice was filled with deep reverence and awe.

"The pest control problem in the higher realm has caused quite a distraction," Neo explained. "The Greater Deities are currently very busy fighting for their absolute survival. Their lower mortal territories and their lesser divine domains are completely unprotected right now."

"I understand darling. They left their back doors wide open."

"Exactly. Prepare the Vanguard fleet. We are not going to sit here and wait for them to clean up their mess. We are going to invade their territories while they are busy screaming. Set a course for the nearest Pantheon controlled galaxy."

"It shall be done immediately," Noir promised.

Neo summoned his Sunfire Judgment Blade once more. He rested the platinum blade against his shoulder and looked up at the sky.

The gods were currently weeping over their rotting temples. They had no idea that the true nightmare was just about to knock on their unguarded doors.
