Building The First Adventurer Guild In Another World
Chapter 335: Gathering StormThe entire ruined city tensed up as dozens of giant beams of light descended from the sky. Instinctively, everyone tightened their grips on their weapons and spread out, eyes locked onto the towering pillars of light surrounding them.
The ground trembled faintly beneath their feet from the sudden arrival, while broken buildings nearby shook loose debris that crashed loudly onto the streets below.
Dust swirled in the air, mingling with the lingering smells of blood, smoke, and burnt Mana from the recent battle against Riven’s forces. The atmosphere, which had barely calmed moments before, grew heavy again not due to the creepy old man or any previous pressure but rather a palpable tension that felt like the calm before a massive storm.
One by one, the giant beams began to fade.
As they dimmed, figures started to emerge within them.
At first, only shadows were visible; but as the light weakened completely, shapes became clearer. Sage and his companions narrowed their eyes warily and adjusted their stances slightly.
The number of newcomers was staggering, hundreds, perhaps even thousands, scattered throughout different parts of the ruined city. It was clear this place was not meant for just one group; The Vault had gathered everyone together.
Sage scanned his surroundings carefully. When his gaze landed on one group in particular, his expression turned serious.
Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, Dragonnewts, Stone Race, Frostkin etc.
Various races from across Eldoria had all appeared at once.
The scene felt surreal.
Massive Orcs stood in groups wielding giant axes and clubs stained with blood and remnants of monsters. These Orcs towered over three meters tall, boasting bulging muscles and thick green skin marked by battle scars. Their tusks jutted out like curved daggers from their mouths while their rough armor appeared pieced together from enormous beast bones and black iron. Just standing there exuded an intimidating presence that screamed warrior instinct. Several Adventurers behind Sage swallowed hard at the sight.
Not far from them stood the Dragonnewts.
Sage’s eyes widened slightly; this was his first time seeing them up close.
At first glance, Dragonnewts resembled humans, if one overlooked their thick dark scales covering parts of their bodies. Some bore scales along their necks and arms; others had reptilian faces with slit golden eyes that glowed sharply under the ruined sky.
Horns curved backward from their heads while thick tails swayed behind them. Their hands looked human but ended in claw-like fingers capable of tearing flesh apart effortlessly. A few emitted wisps of smoke as they breathed; even when still, they radiated an oppressive heat that hinted at danger.
Mina pointed excitedly at them. "Petty uncle Sage! They look cool!"
Sage nodded absently. "Yeah..."
"Way cooler than those ugly mermaids," she added with a pout.
Gregor let out an exasperated groan. "Can you please stop bringing up the mermaids?"
Mina crossed her arms, clearly irritated. "They ruined my dreams!"
The others rolled their eyes at her outburst. Sage, however, continued to scan the surroundings with curiosity. His gaze landed on another group nearby, and his brows lifted in surprise. It was the Stone Race, a truly unique sight. Their skin resembled rough stone rather than flesh, layered like natural armor carved from mountains. Some had dark grey skin while others appeared almost metallic black.
Cracks glowed faintly across their bodies, revealing a strange earth-colored light that flowed within them like molten lava beneath rock. They were enormous and heavyset, broad and tall by nature; every movement they made sounded like boulders grinding against one another.
Even their faces seemed partially sculpted from stone, with glowing crystal-like eyes set deep within rocky sockets. Several of them wielded massive hammers or pillars as weapons.
Brutus stared at them wide-eyed. "Damn..."
"They look like walking fortresses," he added.
Caelis nodded slowly in agreement. "I suddenly feel very fragile."
Not far from the Stone Race stood another group that instantly changed the atmosphere around them, the Frostkin.
The ground beneath their feet was completely frozen solid, white frost spreading outward as cold mist swirled around their forms continuously. Their skin was a pale blue, reminiscent of ice, while their hair was pure white and almost glowed faintly under the ruined sky.
Their crystal blue eyes were devoid of emotion, giving them an ethereal yet distant beauty that felt almost inhuman. The air around them felt painfully cold; several weaker Adventurers rubbed their arms after experiencing the sudden drop in temperature.
Sage narrowed his eyes slightly as he observed them. "So these are Frostkin..."
One of the Frostkin turned its gaze toward Sage’s group, and for a brief moment, he felt chills crawl up his spine.
Then his attention shifted to yet another group, the Elves.
Though there were only about twenty of them, they immediately drew attention with their striking appearance: tall, elegant, and undeniably beautiful. Each Elf looked almost unreal; silver and golden hair flowed gracefully while sharp ears peeked through naturally styled locks.
Their faces were refined and calm, almost too perfect compared to other races and most carried elegant bows or slender swords clad in light green and silver armor that seemed to blend seamlessly with Mana itself. Even their posture exuded grace.
Mina’s golden eyes sparkled with admiration. "So pretty..."
Even Sage couldn’t deny it; this was his first time witnessing so many different races gathered together in one place. While he had seen Elves from afar before and occasionally encountered Orcs visiting the Guild, seeing everyone together like this made him realize just how vast the world truly was.
At the side, a group of Dwarves was engaged in a loud argument, each wielding oversized hammers that seemed almost too large for them. In stark contrast to the tense atmosphere surrounding everyone else, these Dwarves appeared to be gearing up for a drinking contest rather than navigating the dangers of a deadly Vault.
Yet, despite their differences, every race present shared one grim commonality: injuries. Each group looked battered and weary. Some were missing members; others wore blood-stained armor or carried lifeless bodies.
Exhaustion and grief etched into their faces made it clear that reaching this place had come at a heavy cost. The Vault was no casual destination, it relentlessly consumed lives.
Just then....
"Father?" Boren’s surprised voice broke through beside Sage.
Everyone turned to look at him. Boren’s gaze was fixed on the northern part of the ruined city, his eyes wide with disbelief. Following his stare, Sage saw Patriarch Belmont and his men standing there.
Unlike most groups, Belmont’s people appeared relatively organized despite their injuries. About fifty elite fighters clad in black stood silently behind him, each exuding an air of danger. The shadowy figure from earlier loomed quietly behind Belmont like a specter.
Belmont seemed to sense Boren’s gaze and slowly turned his head toward them. For several seconds, father and son exchanged looks across the desolate landscape before Belmont gave a slight nod, just that simple acknowledgment.
His attention then shifted to Sage, where a faint smile flickered briefly before his expression darkened as he focused on Valeria. That grim look vanished just as quickly as it had appeared; he turned back to the shadow man beside him and resumed speaking softly.
Sage narrowed his eyes slightly before glancing sideways at Boren. "So this is your father?"
Boren nodded awkwardly. "Yeah..."
Sage studied both of them several times before speaking candidly. "You look nothing alike."
Boren’s lips twitched in irritation.
Mina chimed in with glee, "Not even a little!"
"You look adopted," she added teasingly.
Boren’s face darkened instantly. "Oi!"
"What kind of nonsense is that?!" he protested.
Mina smirked proudly, "Truth."
Boren nearly choked on his indignation while Brutus observed Belmont with curiosity. "That guy really is your father?"
Now visibly offended, Boren shot back, "Why does everyone sound disappointed?!"
Before anyone could continue teasing him further, Boren’s eyes suddenly lit up with excitement.
"Oh! Boss! Look!" He pointed eagerly toward another section of the ruined city.
Sage and the others followed his gesture and spotted five noble figures surrounded by guards, miserable sights indeed: dirty clothes, broken armor, pale faces marked by exhaustion, the complete opposite of their usual arrogant demeanor.
Boren started pointing at each noble in turn. "That’s Lord Hadrien." He gestured next. "That ugly guy is Lord Merrowyn." Then he pointed to the woman. "And that’s Lady Veyra." Finally, with a dramatic flourish, he said, "The old one over there is Lord Kessarine."
"And last but not least..." he added, his finger landing on a particularly rotund figure. "The fat one is Lord Pellian."
As soon as the group caught sight of Lord Pellian’s disheveled appearance, several of them nearly burst into laughter.
Brutus blinked in confusion. "What on earth are nobles doing here?"
Caelis nodded solemnly. "Exactly."
"Aren’t they supposed to hide behind their mansions while sending others off to fight their battles?" someone remarked.
"Seriously, look at them," another adventurer chimed in. "They look like life has really knocked them around."
A few adventurers chuckled softly at the sight. However, Sage narrowed his eyes dangerously as he scrutinized the five nobles before him.
Then slowly, a wicked smile crept across his face. "So..." he mused, "you wanted my Guild that badly..."
His eyes glinted with a hint of mischief. "Thank goodness you were foolish enough to come here personally."
The others turned to Sage, following his gaze back to the five nobles once more. A moment later, they all silently shook their heads in pity for the poor souls who had just landed on Sage’s mental blacklist.
Boren swallowed nervously and said, "Boss... you’re smiling that scary smile again..."
Sage ignored him completely and muttered under his breath, "Looks like Belmont’s help won’t even be necessary anymore... These idiots aren’t leaving this Vault alive."
A cold glint flashed in his eyes just then. Meanwhile, far away, the five nobles suddenly frowned as if sensing an unsettling presence nearby.
Lord Pellian looked around nervously and remarked, "Why do I suddenly feel cold?"
Before anyone could respond,...
A calm and lazy voice broke through from behind Sage. "You must be Guildmaster Sage."
At those words, Sage’s expression shifted instantly.
