The second gate opened with a sound that rolled through the treasury like a mountain dragging itself awake, the ancient golden doors grinding apart while thick streams of pale light spilled through the widening gap.

The first wave of golems had already been reduced to piles of broken golden limbs, shattered weapons, cracked cores, and sparking rune plates scattered across the lower hall, yet the treasury did not show even the slightest sign of being satisfied.

Instead, the moment the second gate opened, the runes engraved across the walls and pillars brightened again, and the heavy pressure in the hall grew sharper, colder, and far more focused than before.

Sage, who was still hovering among the upper bubbles with wind magic circles glowing beneath his boots, felt the change immediately.

His eyes narrowed as he looked down, his hands still guiding a stream of high-grade materials toward the ground, but his attention had already shifted to the gate where new shadows were marching out.

This wave was different. The first golems had been simple giants of gold and rune-metal, powerful enough to crush ordinary warriors but still straightforward in their design.

These new guardians were built with clear purpose. The ones at the back carried enormous crossbows mounted directly into their forearms, each weapon longer than a carriage and strung with glowing mana cables instead of ordinary strings.

The bolts loaded into those weapons were not made of wood or iron, but condensed golden metal covered in spiral runes, each one as thick as a man’s waist and humming with enough pressure to make the air around it tremble.

In front of them stood spear golems with narrow, heavily jointed frames, each holding long golden spears that flickered with blue-white light at the tips, their bodies designed for thrusting speed rather than brute mass.

Between them moved slimmer assault golems, their limbs thinner, their torsos compact, their backs fitted with wing-like rune plates that released bursts of mana whenever they shifted their feet.

These fast assault units did not stomp forward like the first wave. They glided, vanished, and reappeared in short bursts, their movements far too quick for something made from metal.

Gregor paused midair after cracking open another bubble, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at the new guardians. "Those ones look annoying."

Brutus, standing on a thick vine that Lyana had lifted toward a weapon bubble, scratched his jaw and gave a low grunt. "Annoying? Those things look like they were built to shoot down flying people."

Mina, who had been stuffing a handful of small crystals into a pouch tied to her waist, looked down and immediately froze when she saw the giant crossbows. "Petty uncle Sage..."

"I see them," Sage replied, his voice calm but his expression no longer relaxed. "Everyone stay close to Lyana’s vines. Don’t move randomly. If one of those bolts comes your way, dodge first and loot later."

Boren swallowed hard from below, where he was standing near a pile of treasure with both arms wrapped around a stack of glowing books. "Guildmaster, can we maybe loot from a safer place? Like outside the Vault? Or home? Or my bed?"

Sage did not even look at him. "If you want to carry everything back to your bed, survive first."

Boren’s face became tragic. "That’s exactly the hard part."

Before anyone could say more, the first crossbow golem fired.

The sound was not like an arrow being released. It was like a siege engine exploding.

A massive golden bolt tore through the air with a deafening BOOM, leaving behind a straight tunnel of displaced wind as it shot toward the upper section of the hall where several adventurers had gathered near a bubble filled with armor.

Sage reacted instantly, his wind magic surging outward to shove the nearest adventurers aside while Lyana’s vines snapped upward and pulled two slower members away from the bolt’s path.

The projectile missed them by a narrow margin and slammed into one of the gigantic golden pillars behind them. The impact shattered the pillar halfway up, sending enormous chunks of engraved metal and marble raining down like a collapsing cliff.

The entire hall shook violently as the broken section fell, crashing into the floor below with another boom that sent dust, sparks, and golden debris rolling across the treasury in a violent wave.

Sage’s face darkened. "Those bolts can destroy pillars."

Caelis looked up at the half-collapsed structure, his expression tight. "If one of those hits us, there won’t even be a body left."

Valeria was already moving before anyone could panic. Her crimson figure vanished from the center of the broken golem field and reappeared in front of the crossbow line like a streak of blood-red lightning.

The nearest crossbow golem adjusted its aim toward her, but it was far too slow. Her broadsword swept upward in a brutal arc, and the enormous weapon mounted to the guardian’s arm was cut cleanly in half before the golem could fire.

She followed the slash with a step forward and drove her fist into the center of its chest, crushing the golden armor inward with a thunderous sound that shattered the core inside.

BOOOM!

The guardian collapsed backward, but Valeria was already gone, flashing between the next two crossbow units before their targeting runes could lock onto her. One swing removed both their arms. Another swing split their torsos open. Golden parts flew in every direction, hitting the floor like heavy rain.

The spear golems rushed her next, their long weapons thrusting from multiple angles with terrifying speed. Unlike the previous guardians, they did not rely on weight or raw strength.

They attacked in overlapping patterns, one spear aiming for her throat while another targeted her ribs, a third stabbing toward her knee, and two more cutting off her retreat.

Their coordination would haveoverwhelmed even skilled knights, but Valeria’s eyes remained cold and steady. She tilted her head slightly, allowing the first spear to slide past her cheek, then stepped between the second and third with suchsmall movement that it looked almost lazy.

Her sword flickered once, and the spear tips shattered. Her left hand shot forward, grabbed one golem by the face, and slammed it into another with enough force to flatten both skulls together.

BOOM!
