Building The First Adventurer Guild In Another World
Chapter 347: The Last Sentinel [ 1 ]The opening of the third set of gates did not sound like the first two.
The first wave had marched out with the heavy, steady rhythm of ancient soldiers waking from a long sleep, and the second wave had arrived like a storm of iron and siege weapons, crossbows, spears, and fast assault units turning the lower hall into a battlefield of collapsing pillars and broken marble.
This time, however, the sound that rolled out from behind the newly opened gates was deeper and far more oppressive, a low metallic groan that seemed to crawl through the entire treasury and sink into the bones of everyone inside.
The golden runes carved across the walls dimmed for a breath, then flared with a darker, heavier glow, as if the ancient defense system had finally stopped testing them and had decided to release something meant to erase intruders completely.
Sage, still floating among the upper bubbles with wind magic circles beneath his boots, felt his expression stiffen as the pressure rising from below changed. It was no longer scattered or mechanical. It was focused, sharp, and filled with the kind of weight that made even his enhanced senses ring with warning.
From the newly opened gates, the elite golems emerged in silence. There were fewer of them than before, only a dozen at first, but each one was larger than the earlier guardians by a full head, their bodies not merely forged from gold but from a darker alloy streaked with black veins that pulsed beneath their armor like molten metal trapped under skin.
Their frames were slimmer than the shield golems yet heavier than the assault units, built with a balance of power and speed that made them feel far more dangerous than anything that had marched out before.
Their joints did not grind when they moved. Their steps made almost no sound despite their size, and that silence alone made the entire hall feel colder.
Some carried long curved blades that shimmered with cutting runes, while others held heavy gauntlets engraved with layered formations around the knuckles, and at the center of their formation stood one guardian taller than the rest, its body nearly ten meters high, its chest carved with a massive crimson-gold core that beat slowly like a mechanical heart.
A crown-like ring of golden plates floated behind its head, rotating silently, giving it the appearance of a king among machines.
Gregor’s face changed the moment he saw them.
"Those ones are different," he muttered, his voice losing some of its usual teasing tone as he tightened his grip around his broadsword. "They don’t move like the others."
Brutus stared down from above, his brows drawn together. "Yeah. The big one feels like trouble."
Mina, who had been clinging to one of Lyana’s vines while still watching the battle with wide golden eyes, swallowed hard and shifted closer to Sage’s side. "Petty uncle Sage... big sister can handle them, right?"
Sage did not answer immediately. His gaze remained fixed on Valeria, who stood alone in the center of the lower hall with her crimson broadsword resting loosely in one hand.
She had destroyed two waves of golems without looking truly strained, and even now her breathing was steady, her armor only lightly scratched, her crimson hair drifting softly around her shoulders in the mana-charged air.
Yet for the first time since the treasury guardians had appeared, Sage noticed a slight change in her posture. Her grip tightened around the hilt of her sword.
Her shoulders lowered. Her stance shifted from casual readiness into something far more serious, and the moment Sage saw that, he understood that Valeria herself had judged this final wave worthy of real attention.
"She can handle them," Sage finally said, though his voice was quieter than before. "But don’t get careless. Everyone keep moving. If even one of those things slips past her, we run first and think later."
Below them, Valeria slowly lifted her sword from the floor and rested it across her shoulder. Her crimson eyes swept across the elite golems one by one before settling on the towering central guardian.
The smaller elite golems spread out without command, their movements smooth and coordinated, cutting off angles around her while leaving enough room for the larger sentinel to advance.
Their formation was perfect, not like soldiers following orders, but like parts of the same body shifting into place. The air trembled as their cores began to glow brighter, and thin golden lines extended from one golem to another, forming a faint network of energy between them. The moment the network completed, all twelve guardians disappeared at once.
Sage’s pupils contracted. "They’re fast."
The words had barely left his mouth before the lower hall exploded with motion. The first elite golem appeared at Valeria’s left side, its curved blade already slicing toward her neck with frightening speed, while another materialized behind her with a gauntleted fist aimed at her spine.
A third came from above, dropping silently with both blades crossed, and the remaining guardians shifted around the battlefield in rapid bursts, their bodies flickering like golden phantoms through the broken pillars and shattered wreckage.
For any ordinary warrior, even seeing the attack pattern would have been impossible. For Valeria, it was only enough to make her eyes narrow slightly. She leaned her head aside and let the first blade pass close enough to cut a few strands of red hair, stepped forward half a pace so the fist behind her struck empty air, and raised her sword in a short, precise movement that intercepted the falling guardian from above.
The impact produced a deep BOOM that shook the marble beneath her, but she did not give ground. Instead, she twisted her wrist and pushed upward, sending the airborne golem spinning away before her free hand shot out and caught the wrist of the first attacker.
Her fingers tightened. The golem’s wrist collapsed like soft metal.
Before it could retreat, Valeria pulled it toward her and drove her knee into its chest.
BOOM!
The elite guardian’s armor folded inward, its core cracked, and the entire body flew backward into another golem rushing in from behind. Both smashed through a half-broken pillar, showering the floor with golden fragments and white marble dust.
Valeria vanished from her position before the remaining guardians could complete their next attack, becoming a crimson streak that crossed the battlefield so quickly that several afterimages seemed to bloom behind her.
She appeared beside one of the blade-wielding golems and swung once. The cut was clean, too clean, as if the sword had passed through water instead of ancient alloy. The guardian’s body split from shoulder to hip, its core severed before it could even flare, and Valeria was already gone by the time the two halves began to fall.
The elite golems adjusted immediately, their network glowing brighter as they tried to match her speed. Two gauntlet units slammed their fists into the ground, sending golden shockwaves tearing across the marble floor toward her, while three blade units used the disruption to close the distance from different directions.
The attack was brutal and efficient. The shockwaves shattered the floor and forced everything in their path to rise in jagged fragments, creating a chaotic field that should have limited Valeria’s footing.
But she moved as if the collapsing ground belonged to her. Her boots touched a floating slab of marble for half a breath before she launched herself forward, her body spinning through the air as a thick crimson aura erupted from her sword.
The blood-colored mana wrapped around the blade like living flame, sharpening its edge until the air itself hissed around it. She landed between the three blade golems and swung in a full circle.
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!
Three explosions rang out almost as one. The first golem lost its head, the second lost both arms and half its torso, and the third was cut straight through the core before its weapon even reached her. Sparks, golden fragments, and broken rune plates scattered across the floor like rain.
Above, the Guild members stared with expressions that had shifted from fear to disbelief. They had seen Valeria overpower enemies before, but this was different. The elite golems were not weak. Their speed alone was enough to threaten everyone else in the hall.
Their strength could shatter the floor. Their coordination was near perfect. Yet against Valeria, they were being dismantled as if she had already read every movement before they made it.
Boren’s mouth opened slowly as he looked down at the battlefield. "Is she angry?"
Vanthrice watched with narrowed eyes, her expression serious. "No. That’s the scary part. She isn’t angry. She’s just being efficient."
Gregor gave a dry laugh. "Efficient? She is turning ancient elite guardians into scrap metal with one swing."
Mina nodded with absolute confidence, her face glowing with pride. "That is called big sister efficiency."
The towering central sentinel finally moved. Until now it had only watched, its crown-like ring rotating behind its head while the smaller elite golems tested Valeria’s movement.
When it stepped forward, the entire treasury seemed to respond. Its crimson-gold core pulsed once, and the broken pieces of defeated golems scattered across the floor trembled, their remaining runes lighting up briefly before streams of golden energy flew toward the sentinel and sank into its body. Its armor thickened.
