Building The Perfect Harem With My Heavenly Desire System
Chapter 204: An Unexpected RequestChapter 204
Alex woke up the following morning to the warm rays of sunlight slipping through the curtains and spilling across his room. For several long seconds, he simply remained in bed with his eyes half open, staring blankly at the ceiling as the memories of last night’s battle slowly returned.
From entering the bureau island to the portal, to the damned Bone Demons and that formidable Ascendant-level Vile Bone Demon General. To the Bureau Chief, and the strange revelation that the strongest Transcendent in the country possessed an ability capable of manipulating the minds of an enormous amount of people.
It had certainly been one hell of a night alright. One that could make a normal person question his entire existence.
Aside from all that, thank goodness there wasn’t anything urgent waiting for him this morning. It would still be later before he and Doris went to check on the rest of Nyx’s business and see how things were doing on their side.
That meant only one thing, he was free for now.
Alex rolled onto his side and glanced toward the window. The curtains were slightly open, allowing the morning sunlight to stream inside in long golden rays. He stared at the view absentmindedly, watching the light slowly move across the floor.
For some reason, he didn’t particularly feel like getting up just yet. He just wanted to lazy about on the bed before today brought its own set of problems.
He let his mind wander from one thought to another without settling on anything in particular. He thought about the battle from last night, then the Bureau Chief, then the strange creature that had looked almost identical to the one he had fought inside the System’s training realm.
He didn’t forget about that. He still needed to ask the System about that.
There were simply too many strange coincidences surrounding that creature for him to ignore. But that could wait for now.
Alex let out a quiet sigh and continued staring toward the window, enjoying the rare moment of peace. He wasn’t often given mornings like this where nothing demanded his attention, and after the chaos of the previous night, lying there without worrying about anything felt really comfortable.
Then his stomach growled. Grrrrrrr... The sound was so loud that Alex actually blinked in surprise and then slowly looked down at his stomach.
The realization that he was hungry, most likely from not eating anything last night, finally gave him a reason to leave his soft, and extra comfy bed behind even though he didn’t really want to at the moment.
With a sigh, Alex first pushed himself up and then stretched his arms above his head before letting out a small yawn. He glanced toward his kitchen and rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Should I order some takeout?"
He considered the idea for a few seconds. Ordering food would certainly be easier. He could simply pick up his phone, choose something like say pizza or spicy wings, and wait for it to arrive.
But after thinking about it, Alex shook his head.
"Eh, might as well just go cook."
It had been a while since he had properly prepared himself a nice breakfast anyway. Besides, he had nothing urgent to do at the moment, so there was no reason to be lazy.
With that, he headed into the kitchen and began gathering everything he needed. Soon, the entire kitchen was filled with the familiar sounds of cooking. And by the way it was amazing.
The smell of bacon sizzling in a pan quickly spread through the room, followed by the sweet aroma of pancakes cooking on the griddle. Alex prepared a generous stack of pancakes before pouring maple syrup over them until it slowly dripped down the sides in a tower of all things sweet.
He made sure to fry the bacon properly until it was crispy enough to his liking and then prepared a side of scrambled eggs, making sure they remained soft and fluffy rather than becoming dry. Finally, he poured himself a large glass of chilled orange juice.
Looking at everything on the counter, Alex nodded with satisfaction.
"This should be enough."
Actually, it was probably enough to feed a large family. But Alex had never been particularly modest when it came to food.
He carefully carried everything toward the living room, balancing the plate, glass, and other dishes in his hands.
Now there was only one thing missing. Good old entertainment. Alex grabbed the TV remote and smiled.
"Nothing says breakfast quite like watching some good old American football while eating breakfast."
Just as he took another step toward the couch, he froze. There was someone standing inside his living room and he hadn’t noticed all this while.
But then, when he saw that it was a familiar beautiful woman with long dark hair and twin black eyes that stared directly at him, carrying the same familiar irritation and hostility he had seen countless times before, Alex immediately placed one hand over his chest and released a long breath of relief.
"Goodness gracious, you startled me." He yelled softly, but the woman said nothing.
Alex stared at her for several seconds before raising an eyebrow.
"By the way, what are you even doing here?"
Still nothing. Alex looked at her suspiciously.
"Aren’t you supposed to be assassinating someone or something? Or are you here to try and kill me again?" His lips curled into a faint smile. "Because if it’s for that, you’ll just fail like before."
Celine’s beautiful black eyes narrowed as the irritation in them became even more obvious than before.
Alex wasn’t particularly concerned. He had already survived her attempts before. Besides, if she had actually intended to attack him right now, she probably wouldn’t have been standing there silently all this while. At least, that was what Alex assumed.
Seeing that Celine apparently had no intention of answering his questions, Alex simply shrugged.
"Whatever."
He walked over to the couch and carefully placed his breakfast on the table. Then he picked up the remote, turned on the television, and began searching for a game.
A moment later, the familiar sounds of one of his favorite American football team filled the living room. Alex settled comfortably onto the couch, picked up a strip of bacon and took a bite.
"Mmm."
Just perfect! The crispy bacon, fluffy eggs, sweet pancakes, maple syrup, and cold orange juice made for an excellent breakfast that really made one feel like he was eating the food meant for gods.
Alex continued eating while keeping his eyes on the television, while Celine still remained standing nearby. And for several minutes, neither of them really said anything.
Though Alex would occasionally glance at her from the corner of his eye, she still remained as still as a statue. There was something oddly amusing about the whole situation. She had broken into his home, refused to explain herself, and now seemed content to watch him eat.
Eventually, Alex looked at her again and couldn’t help saying.
"If you’re hungry, you can join me."
Celine didn’t move. She didn’t even acknowledge him, making Alex shrug once more.
"Suit yourself."
He turned his attention back toward the television and continued eating. If she didn’t want to talk then just let her be.
Besides the football game was getting interesting. A running back had just broken through the defensive line and was sprinting toward the end zone while several defenders chased after him.
Alex leaned forward slightly and cheered.
"Come on, come on... Tony, you can do this!"
Unfortunately, the player was tackled just before reaching the line. Alex clicked his tongue in frustration.
"Damnit! Always getting tackled like he has no bones in his body! He should just quit football and become a ballerina instead."
After venting to his heart’s content, Alex couldn’t help glancing back to the silent woman in his house and wondering if she was waiting for him to finish. Maybe she wanted to ask him something.
But then again, Celine wasn’t exactly known for being reasonable. Alex grabbed another pancake and dipped it into the maple syrup.
He was about to take a bite when Celine finally spoke.
"I need your help."
Alex stopped, causing the pancake to remain halfway between his plate and his mouth. Then he turned his head toward her and asked.
"...What?"
Celine’s expression remained serious.
"I said I need your help."
Alex lowered the pancake.
"Why do you suddenly need help? And especially from me of all people?" He said, pointing at himself. "The same person you always tried to kill?"
Celine didn’t answer him immediately. He just watched as those black eyes of hers remained fixed on him, and waited. After several seconds, he finally sighed.
"Look, I’m not saying no. But you could at least tell me what you need help with."
"Will you help me or not?"
Alex stared at her.
"How can I agree to help you when you haven’t even told me what you need my help for?"
After saying that, Alex leaned back against the couch and watched her carefully.
Whatever this was about, it clearly was something that was very important to her, because Celine had never been the type to ask him for anything. In fact, most of their previous encounters had involved her trying to kill him.
So if she had actually come to his home and asked for his help, the situation had to be very serious. After a few more seconds, Celine finally opened her mouth.
"I need your help in killing Marcus."
