Chapter 38: Chapter 37: Story
Years ago, Kaezan stood in his apartment, having black circles round his eyes from immense stress.
During that time, he was talking on the phone while carrying a nervous smile.
"Hey, bro. How are you doing-?"
"What do you want, Kaezan? And remember it’s stepbrother, not brother." Kaezan’s stepbrother interrupted, "We are not blood related."
"Uh... Yeah... Sure." Kaezan said as he chuckled nervously, "Anyway... Stepbrother... I... Uh... Have a favor to ask you."
"What is it?" The brother asked.
"I’m in a little pinch and uh... If you can just... Uh... You know... Lend me some money-"
"How much?" Kaezan’s stepbrother interrupted again.
Kaezan stayed quiet for a moment while still smiling nervously and spoke.
"Seven hundred thousand."
"I don’t have any money." The stepbrother replied.
"What? Come on, I know you do." Kaezan said.
"You’re right, I do... But I ain’t giving you a thing." The stepbrother replied, "It’s like I said before: the only one I owe is my father. Not you, not your mom, just him."
"But we are family. Family always stick together. " Kaezan said as he tilted his head down, "Please, bro, I have no one else to go to."
"Go ask your friends. They always bail you out as usual. In fact, why do you even need the money?" The stepbrother asked.
Kaezan stayed silent and his hand on the phone shook as he gripped it tightly.
Kaezan then exhaled and spoke.
"I’m in debt... And the reason why I am in it in the first place is because my ’friends’ exploited me and made me sign a debt document from the Mizukais.
I have been trying so hard to get the money to pay them back but I’m barely making any progress.
As I am right now, I am so tired.
I couldn’t even pass any of my interviews. I just ... Please, I need your help.
You’re all I have right now."
Quietness hung in the atmosphere for a time until Kaezan’s stepbrother’s laughter resonated through the phone.
The laughter continued for a while until it finally died down and the stepbrother spoke.
"Really, huh? They did it. They finally did it?!"
The stepbrother burst out in laughter again while Kaezan was confused at his words.
"H-huh? What are you talking about? What do you mean ’they finally did it’?"
"The fuck do you think?" Kaezan’s stepbrother asked as his laughter had died down again, "What? You’re surprised they betrayed you? I knew that shit was gonna happen. I saw it coming a long time ago.
Just looking at them, I could tell they would sell you out one day to save their fucking selves and they did it!
Just wondering why it took them so long."
"Brother..." Kaezan softly said.
"That’s why they say be careful of whom you surround yourself with." Kaezan’s stepbrother said, "That’s why I got no friends, no family or mofo that can stab me in the back.
People ain’t shit just like your friends weren’t."
"Okay, you’ve made your point. Now can you please send me some money? This will be the last time I’ll ask you for anything. Just please, help me out this once." Kaezan said as he closed his eyes.
"No." Kaezan’s stepbrother answered, causing Kaezan to snap his eyes open.
"Wai-huh?"
"I told you before, I ain’t giving you a damn thing." Kaezan’s stepbrother said, "Yeah, I do have the money to pay the debt. In fact I have more than enough but in end, it’s your problem not mine.
You deserve what you got for keeping those kind of friends and the Mizukais... They made you borrow from the Mizukais of all people? That’s a new level of dumb.
Those bastards are nasty. But it shouldn’t be surprising because there are fools that have been doing it and are ’still’ doing it."
Kaezan’s stepbrother laughed out loud again and spoke.
"Enjoy what comes in your way ... ’Brother’."
After he had finished speaking, Kaezan’s stepbrother hung the phone, leaving Kaezan to tilt his head down in sadness and silence.
Currently in the hospital, Kaezan laid in the bed and gazed at the ceiling with his face bandaged, leaving just his left eye and mouth exposed.
As he stared, he had a few recollection of himself and his former friends laughing together, the moment he signed the debt, Akari’s sadistic smile, him standing on the EBW stage with the gear Akari forced him to wear, the faces of the three female opponents he faced and finally him being carried out on a stretcher.
While on the stretcher , his eyes were wide open and veins pulsed round it while his irises illuminated.
The battered beastfolk laughed maniacally while being carried away and repeatedly said these words.
"Don’t suck my dick! Don’t suck my dick! Don’t suck my dick!!"
Kaezan’s maniacally laughter grew as spittle trickled down his mouth.
After recalling all of them, Kaezan closed his eyes.
"This is it for me, huh?" Kaezan said in his heart, "Once I recover, they are going to either put me back in the asylum or that company."
"I’ll have to go through everything again. Everything. I don’t want to go back. I don’t want to." Kaezan continued in his heart as he opened his eyes.
"But I know I will." Kaezan said within as tears began to flow out of his eyes, "All those horrors. I told myself that I can’t die until I paid that evil family but.... But at this point, I’d rather just die.
It will be mercy compared to going back.
And knowing that family especially that woman... She’ll invent new ways for degradation. New ways to make my life more hell than it is.
I don’t think I can take it."
"Just let me die..." Kaezan continued as he closed his eyes, "Heavens... Please."
The sound of the door opening resonated, leading Kaezan to turn to the direction and saw Caesar in the medical dress, standing at the entrance.
"Hey." Caesar said.
Kaezan quickly remembered their fight in the graveyard, her terrifying lunatic behavior and him being frightened.
However Kaezan after remembering those moments instead of showing fear, calmly turned his face and spoke.
"What do you want? Came to continue the fight? If it’s the gold you want then don’t bother; they are probably back in my stepbrother’s grave.
If it is to finish what you started then make it quick. At least it will be much better than me going back to any of those places."
Caesar stayed silent and stared at Kaezan before she exhaled.
Caesar walked towards Kaezan’s direction, took a chair and sat beside him.
Kaezan let a bitter scoff and continued talking.
"You know, I look back at my life. I look back at everything. How people abandoned me.
My biological father, my stepbrother, my so-called friends... I look back at the future I could have had, but it was taken from me by people... And me."
"My bad decisions in people. My bad decisions under pressure. I’m just tired of it all." Kaezan continued while Caesar plainly stared at him, "When everything just became too much for me, I just collapsed and wounded up in an asylum.
And from what I remember, what they kept injecting me with... Putting in my body, the feeling was unbearable."
"When I got out and went for my stepbrother’s grave, as shitty and messed up as it was to rob a grave... That was the only chance I had to escape this hell." Kaezan said as Caesar turned her face away and titled her head down, "That was my only way out.
Sell some gold, pay the debt, live in a different continent, open a shop or something and live peacefully.
That was my one chance and now it’s gone. Taken from me."
"So if you’ve got something to say just say it. If you’ve got something to do to me then just do it. At this point, I’m beyond the state of caring." Kaezan said as he closed his eyes.
Caesar remained mute for a time before she opened her mouth.
"It wouldn’t have worked."
"Hm?" Kaezan said as he opened his eyes.
"The grave robbery, you wouldn’t have escaped." Caesar said,"Turns out that my boss had cameras installed in the graveyard. She was watching everything.
The robbery, the fight, everything."
"The fuck...?" Kaezan said.
"Though the camera audios were damaged and because of that, she couldn’t hear anything, my boss would have still seen us sharing the gold, called the polices on our asses and put us behind bars." Caesar said.
"And if the Mizukais intervened and bailed us out, it would just lead us back to them." Caesar continued as Kaezan’s eyes widened, "So if I had let you walk away with the gold, I would have gotten in trouble, and if I had agreed to split the gold with you, I’d be in prison.
So in other words, your plan was set to fail from the start whether I joined you or not.
There was no exit. The door was never real."
After Caesar had finished explaining, Kaezan gazed at her in silence for a time.
"Oh. I see."
"Well then, get on with it." Kaezan continued as he turned his face away and gazed at the ceiling.
"Get on with what?" Caesar asked.
"Killing me. Get on with it." Kaezan said.
"And why would I do that?" Caesar asked with an arched brow.
"What. You almost did it in the graveyard when you beat me to the brink of death, so you can clearly do it now." Kaezan answered, "You seem sane now compared to then but it would be much easier for you in my condition.
Still wondering how you are not battered up like me, but it’s not like it matters.
So go ahead. Choke me, smother me, beat me to death, it doesn’t matter."
Kaezan then sighed and continued.
"My pain will at least end here."
"And get charged with murder?" Caesar asked with a blank face, "Do you once again even understand what you are asking of me?"
"Just ’do it’." Kaezan said with a firm tone, "I know what is waiting for me and I’m not going back to any of them."
"Yeah, you’re right. Your pain will end here. Unfortunately mine will get worse, so no. That’s not happening." Caesar replied.
"Yeah. Get worse." Kaezan said.
Kaezan let out a bitter chuckle and stayed quiet.
Caesar gazed at Kaezan for some time and spoke.
"So how did you get into the debt?"
"Any reason why you are asking?" Kaezan asked.
"Just... Curious. What would have made you borrow from the Mizukais of all people?" Caesar asked.
"Another Mizukai debtor is asking that question?" Kaezan asked, "Fine. Let me humor you.
Many years ago, I graduated from my university. Name? It doesn’t matter. It’s not like it helped. Anyway, after I had graduated, I went to celebrate with my friends in a bar.
We drank and laughed but I was so happy that I took too many. Unfortunately, that was what they wanted.
My ’friends’ kept giving me drink after drink after drink until I got drunk. Then they gave me a document to sign."
"Of course, in my drunken state, I didn’t read the paperwork and I just signed." Kaezan continued as Caesar narrowed her eyes, "Later, I got to learn that I borrowed seven hundred thousand from the Mizukais and it was from the document my friends gave me to sign."
"They set you up." Caesar said, "Took advantage of you."
"Yeah, they did." Kaezan bitterly replied, "Funny. The people that I considered deeply in my heart didn’t think twice about doing something like that.
All they cared about was the income they will make from placing the debt money into the crypto-rabbit."
"The crypto-rabbit? That thing was a scam." Caesar said.
"Of course, it was. That’s what makes it more painful. They ruined my life for nothing." Kaezan replied, "And when things didn’t go as planned, they told me I’m on my own. That the money was too much for them to pay back.
One of them even tried to blame the drinking all on me. That if I had never gotten drunk then I wouldn’t have signed.
Like they weren’t the ones bringing more and more drinks."
Kaezan exhaled and continued.
"I let my guard down with them because I thought they were more than my friends ... I actually thought of them as family, but it’s like I didn’t learn my lesson that family doesn’t mean shit. You can still get abandoned and betrayed by them."
"Family, huh. I do know a thing about shitty people that are supposed to be family." Caesar said as she turned her face away, "How they ruin your life and yet make it look like it was all your fault."
"You don’t say." Kaezan sarcastically replied.
"I had shitty people in life. My parents... They were abusive; physically, mentally... Emotionally." Caesar said, "They’d hurt you, ruin your life and still tell you deserve what they did to you.
Head and tail is that my parents borrowed five million yons from the Mizukais in hopes to gamble and get double. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out as planned and they died in an accident without repaying a note."
Hearing what Caesar explained, Kaezan’s eyes widened.
"Five million? Where is she supposed to get that kind of money from?" Kaezan asked in his mind, "I’m over here feeling like the world has ended for me just for the seven hundred thousand but she is here owing.... Holy shit!"
"So how were you indebted to them?" Kaezan asked Caesar, "The five million... Is it the interest that made it five million or Is it five million with interest?"
"There is no interest. Just the five million." Caesar answered, "Plus, the Mizukais coerced me to pay in my parents stead."
"They coerced? Of course, it’s the Mizukais." Kaezan said, "Those bastards feel they can do whatever they want and get away with it."
"Actually, they can." Caesar responded, "They are among the twelve families that run all of Neo-earth. They have high control over everything. So, yeah, they can do that.
Plus if we take the matters to court, it will go in their favor. You can bring the best lawyers but in the end, they own the court room. They can simply buy everyone and everything over."
"It’s been two years now, and I have not been able to scratch the surface of the debt. No matter how many jobs I get." Caesar continued as Kaezan narrowed his eyes, "Well, some I got fired from some because of me getting into fights. But still..."
"I can’t decide who I am more angry at." Caesar said as she tightened her fists, "Is it my parents or the Mizukais?
Even in my parents death, I’m still dealing with their bullshit, and as for the Mizukais... Especially Akari, there is never a day I don’t think of laying hands on her, but I know what will happen if I do that."
"Yeah, we know what will happen if a single hand is laid on her or a Mizukai." Kaezan said.
While Caesar and Kaezan were discussing, it was unknown to them that a fair skinned woman with yellow slick back hair, green eyes and wearing a black coat was eavesdropping on them at the door before she silently walked away.
While walking, she brought out her phone and typed a few things.
"Coercion into ero-wrestling, huh?" The woman said in her heart, "Everyone knows how scummy that family is but this... This will make a wonderful story for the media."
"Yes ... A wonderful story, indeed." The woman continued with her irises glowing as a devious smile formed round her face.
