With that, he turned around and left. Lina watched his retreating figure.

She rolled her eyes. "He talks like he’s some kind of big shot."

She crossed her arms. "Who does he think he is?"

Then she turned toward Meng Zhi. "We won’t need him, right, Sister Meng Zhi?"

Meng Zhi didn’t answer. She simply reached out and patted Lina’s head. Lina puffed out her cheeks.

"Sister Meng Zhi..."

She looked at her seriously. "Promise me you won’t ever join him."

Meng Zhi lowered herself. She gently took Lina’s hand. "I promise. I won’t leave your side."

Lina’s expression immediately brightened. "That’s good."

She smiled. "Until and unless I’m here, there will absolutely be no one who can backstab my Sister Meng Zhi."

She leaned forward and kissed Meng Zhi’s cheek. Then she happily walked away.

Meng Zhi remained standing there. She watched Lina’s small figure disappear into the villa. For a long moment, she remained silent.

Then she slowly smiled. Perhaps this was enough. Perhaps she didn’t need the entire world.

She only needed one person who would never betray her.

However, soon Lina started to occasionally have fevers. At first Meng Zhi was worried... but later on, she realised Lina was about to advance, and that too into a zombie king.

For a smoother transition, Meng Zhi started to give her own collected crystals to Lina, who at first resisted but eventually, under Meng Zhi’s insistence, started to mark the wall of the villa.

"I am keeping a count of all the zombie crystals you have given me. Once I become a zombie king, I will repay you twice!"

Meng Zhi only laughed with an amused expression.

Their plans changed. Most of the day, Meng Zhi would hunt for zombie crystals alone while Lina accompanied her occasionally.

One day, a group of survivors arrived at the villa. When they entered the area, they were immediately surprised.

The villa was exceptionally clean. Even more strangely, various herbs were growing around the house. Some of them were clearly mutated plants.

The survivors immediately became excited. "Someone powerful must be living here. Perhaps a superhuman."

"Look at these herbs. They probably have someone with a special ability growing them."

The group quickly decided to occupy the villa. They barged inside, expecting to meet some powerful superhuman.

They waited for a long time, but no one came. "Where the hell is the owner?"

"Maybe they went out."

"Then we’ll just wait."

None of them knew that the true owners of the villa were two zombies. Meanwhile, Lina was outside scavenging for zombie crystals.

Suddenly, she stopped. Her little body began trembling. "It’s getting hot..."

Meng Zhi immediately looked at her. The temperature around Lina was rising rapidly.

Meng Zhi’s expression changed. ’Heat has reached its peak! This is evolution heat.’

It was a phenomenon that happened to zombies when they were about to evolve. Some zombies possessed extraordinary potential.

Lina was one of them.

Her potential was so strong that despite absorbing far fewer zombie crystals than Meng Zhi, she had evolved much faster.

Lina was already a Level Five zombie. Meng Zhi, on the other hand, was still stuck at Level Three.

Lina wiped the sweat-like moisture from her forehead. "I think I’ll go back to the house first."

Meng Zhi immediately shook her head. She wanted to follow. But Lina smiled.

"I’m telling you, your big sister has a tough life."

She patted Meng Zhi’s shoulder. "As long as you listen to me, everything will be fine."

Meng Zhi could only sigh. Then she nodded. Lina immediately laughed. "That’s my good sister!"

She turned around. "And once I evolve, let’s have a party!"

Her eyes sparkled. "We’ll feast on the animal meat we hunted!"

Meng Zhi couldn’t help smiling. "Alright."

Lina happily ran toward the villa.

The thought of returning to a hearty meal made Meng Zhi feel unusually happy.

She imagined Lina’s excited expression. Perhaps they could even watch some videos together afterward.

Maybe Lina would tell another ridiculous story. With that thought, Meng Zhi slowly made her way back.

But when she arrived... she froze.

A small head slowly rolled in front of her leg. Meng Zhi mechanically looked down. Her entire body froze, and for a moment, it felt as though all the blood in her body had rushed toward her head.

Lying in front of her was Lina’s head. Meng Zhi’s lips trembled.

She slowly bent down and picked it up, her hands shaking uncontrollably. Only when she saw Lina’s wide-open eyes and the stunned expression frozen on her face did she realize what had happened.

Lina had most likely been ambushed. For a moment, Meng Zhi couldn’t react at all. She simply stared at the little face in her hands.

The world around her gradually began to lose its color. Everything became blurry. The walls, the snow, the villa, even Lina’s body seemed to fade into a distant haze.

Her vision was slowly turning red. At the same time, the conversation from inside the villa began to seep into her ears.

A woman’s sexy voice rang out.

"That bitch is a zombie. She almost dirtied my clothes. What the fuck was she even trying to do?"

Another voice, calm and composed, analyzed, "She was most likely trying to communicate. I could already see that she had no intention of harming us."

A third voice, slightly dark and deep, echoed.

"I believe that even if she wanted to communicate, there was no need for us to understand her words. After all, she’s a zombie now, and we’re humans. She should have understood that line. Zombies can never become humans."

He sneered. "So what kind of fantasy was she harbouring? Did she truly think that we would accept her and warmly communicate with her? What a joke!"

The woman who had spoken first suddenly snorted.

"I think she probably thought she was still some kind of beautiful woman who was highly praised by others. Maybe she was trying to seduce all of you."
