Chapter 196: Chapter 196: The Truth Comes Out

Kotone Asaba was actually left speechless. In this timeline, the Class President and Mr. Tanaka had already entered that kind of relationship. He had only been testing her.

Then again, it was not much earlier than the manga’s timeline.

"Since you’ve admitted it, let’s continue."

Kotone went on, "You specifically asked Mitaka to show Makima and me around the school because you had another motive, didn’t you?"

"Y-Yes..."

The Class President answered honestly without much hesitation. "I don’t know how you found out about any of this, Asaba, but that means you should understand, right? I’ve already done that with Mr. Tanaka, but he still likes Mitaka more. Why? What makes her so special?!"

She was just a teenage girl without much guile. Once Kotone frightened her, she became completely flustered and confessed everything.

Her greatest secret was already in his hands, leaving her like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, completely at his mercy.

However, the more the Class President spoke, the more agitated she became. Her face even twisted into an ugly expression.

She was clearly furious and resentful that Mr. Tanaka liked Mitaka more than her.

"Is it just because Mitaka acts like such a perfect little good girl every day? I can’t stand people like her!"

The Class President was already close to losing control of her emotions.

Kotone was supposed to be the one interrogating her, but instead, she had begun unloading all her negative emotions onto him.

What the Class President did not know was that Asa Mitaka was standing behind the wall around the corner, close enough to hear every word she said.

Asa had originally remained in the classroom with Makima, but Makima suddenly walked out, so Asa followed her.

Makima apparently believed Asa needed to hear what the Class President was saying, so she had deliberately lured her here.

Even Kotone had not immediately noticed Asa’s arrival, much less the Class President. This was clearly something Makima had decided to do on her own.

Leaning against the wall, Asa lowered her head. Her eyes dimmed, and her expression filled with dejection and disappointment.

She had never imagined that even the Class President, the only classmate she had previously thought she got along with reasonably well, harbored so much hostility toward her. She even despised Asa because she thought she was pretending to be a perfect little good girl.

Then there was Mr. Tanaka. He had already entered that kind of relationship with the Class President, yet he still liked Asa more...

No wonder Mr. Tanaka had gone out of his way to approach her and show concern for her. So that was the reason...

Learning the truth completely shattered Asa’s illusions.

She had thought she at least had two people she got along with, the Class President and Mr. Tanaka, but neither of them had ever genuinely cared about her.

Mr. Tanaka was a teacher, yet he had entered that kind of relationship with one of his students. Asa, who always followed the rules, could never accept something like that. She would have found even an ordinary romance between a teacher and student extremely difficult to accept.

As for the Class President, the only reason she remembered Asa’s name was because Mr. Tanaka liked Asa more.

How pointless...

In the end, she really was alone after all.

Just as Asa’s negative emotions were reaching their peak, she suddenly heard Kotone speak.

"No, I don’t think Mitaka is pretending to be a good girl. In fact, that’s exactly why she has such a hard time fitting in. There’s no reason for you to hate her over that. The person you should blame is Mr. Tanaka, don’t you think?"
