Chapter 204: Chapter 204: So He Really Is Interested in Me

Whether it was the War Devil or the Famine Devil, letting either of them see Kotone in his Black Chainsaw form was bad news.

One of those women preferred to operate openly, while the other schemed from the shadows, but both of them had designs on Chainsaw Man.

"Which Devil did that presence belong to?" Kotone asked Makima.

"It was too far away and passed by too quickly. I couldn’t tell who it was. The scent only seemed somewhat familiar."

Makima shook her head slightly.

"All right..."

Kotone decided he would have to be more careful from now on. He had been far too careless just now.

One of Makima’s sisters had already discovered his identity as Chainsaw Man. Imperial Senior High School would probably not remain peaceful for much longer.

He also had to consider whether he should protect Asa more closely. If the War Devil was drawn to the school, she might target Asa again.

Still, there was no way to know for certain.

Kotone had corrected the class president’s behavior in time. Unlike the original course of events, the class president had not been misled by the Justice Devil into attacking Asa.

Since Asa would no longer be killed by the class president at that particular point in time, the War Devil might not choose her as a host at all.

The following morning, Kotone went directly to Asa’s apartment building and waited downstairs for her.

He was worried that Asa might encounter a Devil on the way to school, drawing the War Devil to her and causing history to repeat itself. Because of that, he decided to escort her during her commute.

What he could not predict was how the War Devil would treat Asa.

In the original story, the War Devil had left half of Asa’s brain intact. But if she instead seized complete control of Asa’s brain, Kotone’s interference would effectively have doomed her.

In that case, he might as well have never corrected the class president in the first place.

Just then, Asa happened to come downstairs.

She had not slept well. She had stayed awake late into the night thinking about Asaba, and now she looked somewhat drowsy.

The moment Asa opened the building’s entrance door, she saw a familiar figure from behind.

At first, she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. She rubbed them, but the figure in front of her did not disappear.

"Asaba? What are you doing here?!"

Asa immediately cried out in surprise.

"There’s a risk that a Devil may appear somewhere around here soon, so I’ve decided to escort you to and from school," Kotone said directly.

"What?!"

Asa stared at him in disbelief.

Could that really be true?

She had always assumed that Asaba and Makima’s claim that they were protecting her was a lie. Was it actually real?

No, this was far too strange!

There was no reason for anyone to protect her. She could not imagine what value she possessed that would make Tokyo Public Safety designate her as someone important enough to guard.

Therefore, she still believed...

Asaba really was interested in her!

He had even invented the excuse that he needed to protect her so he could come to her home and walk to and from school with her!

In reality, however, Kotone truly had come to protect Asa this time.

Walking to school beside Asaba inevitably felt unfamiliar to Asa.

She had always kept to herself and gone everywhere alone. She had never walked to school with another person like this before, especially not a boy her own age.

Other people frequently glanced in their direction, making her blush with embarrassment. At the same time, however, she felt a small sense of vanity and satisfaction.

After all, even though she and Asaba were not actually in a relationship, they probably looked like a couple to everyone around them.
