Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Sweet-Talking Asa Mitaka
Meanwhile, Asa Mitaka was at home, unable to stop thinking about Kotone Asaba.
Suddenly, her window opened on its own for no apparent reason.
Asa did not sense anything strange about it. She immediately stood up and went to close it again.
The moment she approached, however, a birdlike creature thrust its face right in front of hers. Asa was so startled that she fell backward onto her butt.
"An... an owl?!"
"An owl? No, I’m a potoo."
The potoo, or rather, the War Devil, stood on the windowsill. "But that isn’t important. Your name is Asa Mitaka, correct?"
"Y-Yes..."
Asa was completely stunned.
She had never seen an animal capable of speaking before. There was also something faintly unsettling about its appearance. It certainly did not possess an owl’s cuteness.
"In that case, I am the War Devil. Make a contract with me."
The War Devil spoke to Asa with complete directness.
"The War Devil?"
Asa struggled to process what she had just heard.
Did that mean the small animal in front of her was actually a Devil?!
"That’s right. I’m extremely powerful. As long as you make a contract with me, I can fulfill any condition you give me."
"No. I don’t want to make a contract with a Devil."
After recovering from her surprise, Asa immediately rejected the War Devil.
Her parents had been killed by a Devil when she was young, so she deeply hated Devils.
She often heard that contracts with Devils could grant people miraculous powers far beyond those of ordinary humans, but she had no desire to help a Devil.
"Oh? Then tomorrow, I’ll go kill that human named Kotone Asaba. He’s the person you like, isn’t he? Are you really fine with the person you love being killed?"
The War Devil spoke casually.
Asa’s face immediately turned red. How did this Devil know that she liked Kotone?!
Still, the War Devil’s words did make her hesitate.
"Kotone is a Public Safety Devil Hunter. Killing him wouldn’t be that easy."
Asa still did not blindly believe the War Devil.
However, she certainly did not want Kotone to be placed in any real danger.
"What would be difficult about it? There isn’t a single human in this world I can’t kill once I decide to."
The War Devil declared this with overwhelming confidence.
Her claim was half true and half false. The false part was that, in her current weakened state, she was incapable of killing anyone. However, if she recovered her full strength, her statement would not be much of an exaggeration.
Of course, she was clearly trying to deceive Asa into forming a contract with her, so she had no intention of telling the complete truth.
"Besides, if you agree to make a contract with me, I can help you win over that human named Kotone Asaba."
The War Devil continued, "You already know that the conditions established through a Devil contract must be fulfilled. If I weren’t confident that I could do it, I would only end up getting myself killed."
Asa was genuinely tempted now, but she still felt that the War Devil had some ulterior motive. She therefore questioned her carefully.
"So what exactly are you planning? Why do you want to work with me?"
"My objective? It’s simple. I want revenge against Chainsaw Man, and Chainsaw Man is somewhere inside your school. I chose you because you happen to be a student there."
However, the War Devil deliberately concealed certain details from Asa.
For example, the human named Kotone Asaba was actually Chainsaw Man. The reason she had chosen Asa was also because Asa appeared to have a relatively close relationship with Kotone.
That way, once she formed a contract with Asa, as long as Kotone became Asa’s man, he would also belong to her.
