Chapter 216: Chapter 216: The Famine Devil Codex (EC)

"What Control Devil?"

Yoru’s sudden outburst left Asa completely confused.

"The person you just called Makima is my... younger sister," Yoru explained.

"Your sister? How is that possible? You’re a Devil!"

Asa’s first reaction was that Yoru was talking nonsense.

How could a human and a Devil possibly be sisters?

"I am a Devil, but you don’t seriously think she’s a human like you, do you?" Yoru said slowly.

"What do you mean? Are you saying Makima is also a Devil?" Asa asked in alarm.

"That’s right. Have you heard of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? She and I are both members. I suppose that makes me her older sister."

Yoru continued explaining, "I’m the War Devil, and she’s the Control Devil."

"Are you telling the truth...?"

Asa’s face was filled with disbelief.

The Four Horsemen were extremely famous, so of course she had heard of them. However, she could hardly believe that Makima was actually a Devil, much less a being as terrifying as one of the Four Horsemen.

The strangest part was that if Makima really was a Devil, why did she look almost identical to an ordinary human?

"I have no reason to lie about something like this. Besides, I wouldn’t have told you at all if we weren’t essentially sharing the same body now," Yoru said.

Asa and Yoru could communicate directly through their minds, so no third party could hear their conversation.

"Then why does Makima look almost exactly like a normal human?" Asa could not help asking.

Knowledge related to Devils was a mandatory subject at school, and Asa always paid close attention in class.

She clearly understood the distinctions between Devils, Fiends, and humans. Fiends always possessed distinctive features on their heads, so the possibility of Makima being a Fiend could basically be ruled out.

However, she had never heard of a Devil who looked completely identical to a human. Makima’s eyes were unusual, but surely those did not count as a distinctive head feature.

At least, none of the Fiend characteristics mentioned in her textbooks had involved the eyes.

"You just haven’t seen enough. Besides Control, there’s another crazy woman who looks almost exactly like you humans," Yoru said.

"All right... I’ll ask her."

With that, Asa prepared to question Makima directly.

Her decision was so abrupt that Yoru froze for a moment before realizing what she intended to do.

"Wait, you idiot!"

It was already too late. Asa had walked over and leaned close to Makima’s ear.

Meanwhile, Kotone Asaba was examining the newly unlocked page of the Affinity Codex.

When he opened it, the person displayed on the new page was more or less who he had expected.

It was the Famine Devil, otherwise known as Fami.

The crucial question was, where was the Famine Devil now?

Kotone checked the detailed information displayed in the Codex. What he discovered gave him quite a shock, the Famine Devil was also inside Imperial Senior High School.

He had not expected her to infiltrate the school and disguise herself as a student so quickly.

Could the Famine Devil have already discovered that he was "Chainsaw Man"?

No.

Thinking back, Kotone remembered that the Famine Devil’s true target was not actually Chainsaw Man. It was the War Devil.

According to the Famine Devil, she did not want Nostradamus’s prophecy to come true. Neither she, the Control Devil, nor Chainsaw Man could prevent it alone. However, she believed the War Devil possessed the power to do so.

Unfortunately, the relationship between the War Devil and the Famine Devil was probably terrible. War called Famine a crazy woman, so she was unlikely to willingly cooperate with her.

That was why the Famine Devil tried every possible method to make Asa, who had merged with the War Devil, experience hunger. Once Asa became hungry enough, Famine would be able to control Asa, or more precisely, the War Devil, and turn her into a pawn.

In summary, the Famine Devil had appeared at the school to set her plans in motion. On the surface, she had one overarching objective and one secondary objective. The overarching objective was to prevent Nostradamus’s prophecy from coming true, while the secondary objective was to turn the War Devil into her pawn.

Of course, those were merely her apparent motives. No one except Famine herself knew what she truly intended behind the scenes.

"According to the Codex, the Famine Devil is currently a student in the high school division, and she has already joined the student council..."

Kotone studied the information in his mind.

The next moment, however, he vaguely noticed Asa quietly asking Makima something.

His attention immediately shifted toward them because he was able to roughly lip-read what Asa was saying.

"Makima, I heard you’re a Devil. Is that true?"

Asa’s voice was extremely quiet. Only Kotone’s exceptional eyesight allowed him to understand her words by observing the movement of her lips.

Makima showed no surprise upon hearing the question. She seemed to understand everything almost immediately.

She could smell the War Devil’s scent on Asa. Unlike the severely weakened War Devil, Makima could instantly identify the owner of the scent.

From that, she could deduce that the War Devil had revealed Makima’s identity to Asa.

After figuring out the general situation, Makima decided there was no reason to conceal the truth from Asa. The War Devil was most likely inside Asa’s body, so trying to hide it would accomplish nothing.

"It’s true," Makima admitted without the slightest hesitation.

"So it really is true..."

Now that Makima had personally admitted it, Asa had no choice but to believe her.

"The Control Devil... I can hardly believe it," Asa murmured in amazement.

"Asa, please give my regards to my sister," Makima said with a smile.

"Huh? Oh! All right."

For a moment, Asa did not realize who Makima meant by her sister. A moment later, she understood that Makima was referring to the War Devil.

Asa immediately spoke to Yoru in her mind.

"Yoru, did you hear that? Makima says hello."

"I heard her, but I don’t want to respond. I’d also advise you not to get too close to her. She’s dangerous," Yoru warned Asa in a serious tone.

As members of the Four Horsemen, each of them thoroughly understood the abilities of the other three. Yoru knew exactly how dangerous her younger sister could be.

Yoru was especially vulnerable because she was currently weakened and residing inside Asa. As an ordinary human, Asa could easily fall under the Control Devil’s domination.

Once Asa was controlled, Yoru would be unable to break free either.

That was why she was so wary of the Control Devil.
