Chaos Devourer System: My Classless Ascension
Chapter 397 - 395:'You… Took… My… Mel.'Chapter 397: Chapter 395:“You... Took... My... Mel.”
Floating Islands.
Three days.
It had been three days since Melissa got taken away. Raven had already left for the forbidden lands to await Dante’s return, but neither of them, not Raven, nor the others, knew that today, the white-haired menace was finally returning.
....
....
Damien stood before the doors of his mansion, head tilted as he focused upward.
"How long has he been sitting there for?" An aged voice asked as a man approached.
"Three days. Father, he has been like that for the past three days," Damien replied, turning around to greet the old man that had appeared beside him.
"Three days, huh?" Magnus ignored him, turning his focus to the man hovering above the entire floating islands.
Right there, sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, was the still figure of Valen Wildeheart. He had appeared above the floating islands not too long after they returned with Melissa.
But contrary to his character, the man didn’t act. He merely gave the place a once-over, then sat down cross-legged, and he hadn’t moved since then.
"I wonder what he’s planning," Magnus thought out loud, expression pensive.
"Heh! Planning?" Damien laughed. "I don’t think he’s planning anything, Father. I believe he’s afraid."
"Afraid?"
"Of course. With the preparations and plans we made, even he has to think twice before barging in here. After all," Damien looked toward the many newly erected buildings with multiple powerhouses guarding them, "we’re not the only ones here," he concluded, pride oozing off of him, but...
"Hah! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha..." Magnus burst out laughing instead.
"What?"
"Wonderful. Absolutely marvelous." Damien was almost grinning before his father’s next words shut him down. "I’m truly amazed by how foolishly naive you are."
"No, really. What was I thinking when I allowed a fool like you to take over the family, instead of just allowing Regulus to marry some outside woman? I must have gone senile back then." Magnus’s voice had gone harsh.
"Afraid? You think that little brat up there is afraid of our numbers? Have you forgotten who he is? The word fear does not exist in his vocabulary. We have made our plans. We have taken our advantages. But I assure you, O foolish son of mine, that Valen Wildeheart, the paragon of war, is not afraid. So watch him. And when he moves, I should be notified at once." Magnus concluded, and then, giving Valen another look, he turned and left without sparing so much as another look toward Damien.
"Fucking... old... geezer.." Damien grit his teeth as he watched his father’s departing back in pure hatred.
"It’s almost time now... I’ll show you. I’ll show you all. Regulus, your son will be meeting you soon." Letting his murderous thoughts settle, he turned his attention back toward Valen.
"Let’s see what you have planned, O paragon."
....
Meanwhile...
Within a spacious room, the figure of Melissa could be seen sitting comfortably on a window-side chair as she looked up at the figure hovering above the entire floating islands.
"Little girl, I must say, your courage is commendable."
An aged voice echoed in her head.
"Oh, Senior. You’re still there? I thought you had left already." Melissa smiled.
"You thought I had left? If you thought I had left, then why would you still be so casual within enemy territory?"
"Hmm? Because I know nothing will happen to me."
"How can you be..."
Step. Step. Step.
The sounds of approaching footsteps successfully captured Melissa’s attention as she turned toward the door, curious.
Creak...
The door opened softly and in stepped a young man with purple hair, rainbow-colored deer antlers, and mystifying eyes.
"Oh, you’re awake." The young man smiled the moment he noticed Melissa.
"Why wouldn’t I be? I mean, any moment now, your reckoning will be coming, so I’d rather be awake to witness it."
"Hahaha... you’re funny." The young man laughed, brushing away her words. "So, how do you like the place? I hope it’s not uncomfortable."
"I don’t mind. Now, what do you want? You’re interrupting my me time."
"Oh, nothing. I just thought I’d check on you. Wouldn’t want anyone calling me a bad host, now would I?" The young man smiled as he sat down opposite Mel, the floor melding and forming a seat for him.
"Well, you’ve seen I’m fine. Now leave." Melissa waved him away.
"I understand I’m a very accommodating person, but for a prisoner, you surely don’t seem very worried."
"Should I be?"
"You should."
"Well, tough luck, I guess." She shrugged, unconcerned.
"But I need to ask, What do you think you’re planning on achieving by taking me hostage?"
"Hmm?"
"You guys think taking me hostage will give you leverage over Dante? MY Dante? Hahahaha..." She laughed.
"You seem to already understand what’s going on, yet you seem confident," the young man replied.
"I seem confident? Me? No. Not at all. It’s you people that baffle me," Melissa retorted, wiping a tear from her eye.
"How do we baffle you, if I may?"
"You have me in custody. You actually dared to take me hostage in hopes that you’d have leverage over my lover, and yet none of you has taken these few days of grace to escape. Tell me, why wouldn’t I be baffled?"
"Escape? From a measly B-ranked mortal? You insult me."
"If he were a measly B-ranked mortal like you claimed, you wouldn’t have gone through all this charade, calling for reinforcements and preparing so many traps just to have a chance, so spare me your false courage. I am not impressed." The youth’s face turned ugly.
"You people have no idea what you’ve just done. You’ve just signed a warrant for a very painful and torturous death. And you don’t even know it yet."
"You will do well to watch your words, plebeian."
"Or what? What will you do?" Melissa sneered.
WOOOOSH!!!
The air split as a palm aimed straight for her face...
FWOOSHH!!
Pausing just an inch before it connected with her cheek.
Melissa hadn’t budged. She hadn’t even blinked. Her eyes glinted in amusement as she studied the youth.
"Try it. I dare you. Let’s see how you die a horrifically gruesome death."
....
....
A moment of silence fell between them before the youth broke it.
"Heh! Confident. I like it." He slowly withdrew his arm as he continued, "You believe your lover capable of foiling our plans. I hope you keep that same faith for when he appears."
The young man stood up.
"I shall break him. Torture him. Then present him before your eyes as I take his life slowly. Let’s see what you shall say then." He gave Melissa a humorless smile.
"That foolish Darius was supposed to have an engagement with you as a gift for becoming my vassal, but since he’s dead, then I shall just take you as a maid for myself once I am done with my appointments on this middling planet." He began walking toward the door as his words sounded one last time: "Until then, wait for me while I bring you the head of your lover."
BANG!
The door slammed shut behind him as he completed his exit.
"Little girl, that was impressive. I’m honored you trust me this much."
"Trust you? Old man, I barely know you. I’m only doing all this because I trust Uncle Valen, and I want Dante to finally get his closure," Melissa answered as she returned to watching the sky outside, a soft smile on her beautiful face.
"He has lived his whole life with nothing but hatred and anger in his heart, so once and for all, I want him to let it all out. Let him finally be free, for only then will his light shine as bright as it was always meant to be." Her eyes melted as the image of the white-haired menace flashed through her head.
"Hurry up, my love. I am waiting."
...
"Damn it..." A’kenai, the purple-haired youth, grumbled as he tried to hide his trembling arm.
"What was that feeling earlier?" he thought out loud.
Back there, just before his hand made contact with Melissa’s face, he had felt a dreadful feeling of death grip him so conclusively that he had no choice but to halt his movements.
"Just what does that girl have on her to give me such a feeling?" He grit his teeth as he finally approached the exit of the mansion.
There, standing with his back turned, was the still figure of Damien, his attention was still locked onto the figure floating above them.
"Still no reactions?"
"My lord." He bowed before replying, "None. My father believes he is waiting or planning something, but I cannot be sure what," Damien concluded.
"Useless... all of you. If he’s just sitting there doing nothing, why haven’t you guys taken him down yet?" The youth growled.
"This... Father said not to antagonize him until the target appears. He said it would complicate things if the paragon were to be put on alert now."
A’kenai’s eyes flashed with malice, but he could only accept it. He might look down on the natives here, but he couldn’t jeopardize his plans over something this basic.
"Alright then..." He calmed himself down.
"Be sure to tell me if..."
"They’re open." Damien’s surprised words stopped him cold.
"What?"
"Valen. He’s finally opened his eyes."
"Huh?"
Both Damien and A’kenai looked up, and there they saw him.
Valen Wildeheart had finally opened his eyes, his legs separating as he finally stood up.
"Finally...
...He’s here."
The man’s voice wasn’t loud, but it sounded through the entirety of the floating islands for all to hear.
Yet, before anyone could even bother asking who,
HUMMMM!!!!
They felt it before they even saw anything.
A cold and terrible chill ran up the spines of every single soul on the floating islands.
GRRRRROOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!
The skies rumbled as dark clouds began to gather...
CRAAACKKKK!!!
Thick golden lightning churned within them as...
SWOOSH! SWOOOSH!! SWOOOOSH!!!
The winds began picking up. A violent storm of sharp blades carved through the atmosphere.
It was as if the world had suddenly become an unfathomably angered beast that had been disturbed from its rest.
And then, they heard it...
A cold, calm, and detached voice that didn’t come from anywhere, yet sounded like it originated from the depths of their souls. The very pits of their worst nightmares...
"You...
...Took.
My...
...Mel."
