Chaos Devourer System: My Classless Ascension

Chapter 422 - 420:Dungeon of Eternal Grievance

Chapter 422: Chapter 420:Dungeon of Eternal Grievance

"Ughhh... what... what happened?" The old death knight groaned as his empty eye holes began sparking with an ethereal flame, his consciousness slowly coming to.

"Yo! Seems I hit you a bit too hard," I called from right beside them.

"You... you little..." Momon rasped before, "Bahahahahahahahahaha!!!" He burst into another round of wild and raucous laughter.

"Good! Good! Very good!" Giving out the classic old man three goods.

"That was wonderful. I thought I had died. Imagine me, the so-called First Sword of Death, thinking he had died. That was an amazing punch, young lad." The old crone didn’t even seem bothered as he strained to get back up.

"Uggghh... next time, young man, feel free to deal with that old scrap metal however you like, but I’d like to ask for you to leave me out of it," Omari groaned from the other side, his mount manifesting from beneath him as the two fused together once more.

I had unintentionally split the two with my earlier punch.

"Come now, Omari, don’t be a grinch! Look at the lad. He’s almost as big as us, and he’s only flesh and blood." He wasn’t wrong. My height had increased significantly due to my awakening, placing me at an unrealistic 8ft5, I was just that much shorter than the two.

But he was wrong about me being all flesh and blood.

"Momon, I know you don’t care for your body, but not all of us are that crazy," Omari chided.

"Hahahahahahahahahaha... you’re the Rider of Death, what are you afraid of? Dying? At most you’ll just return to the embrace of that fraudulent master of ours. Oh wait, you can’t," Momon shrugged.

"Master?" I interrupted.

"Oh, yes. Lord Death, he’s our master. You didn’t think our titles were just for show, did you?"

"Was our master, Omari. I have renounced that cowardly being as my master."

"Momon..." Before the dullahan could continue:

"Death? As in death death?" I asked, just to be sure.

"Yes. The one you’re thinking about. The representation of the very law itself."

Damn... you’d think I wouldn’t be so surprised considering the things I know.

But, "If you’re truly related to Death, then how are you here? And what even is here? Wait, why am I digressing? You old crones promised to tell me about Dad, now fess up."

The questions were coming one after the other, but only one truly mattered enough for now.

"One at a time, young lad. We’ll be sure to answer everything, after all, that little girl seems to be in a mood, so she won’t bother us."

"Little girl?"

"The spirit of the tower."

"Oh..."

"Now, where should we start?"

"Start from where Father first entered the tower."

"Alright then...."

.....

Well, turns out my hopes were a bit too high for whatever Father did here.

As it turned out, Father had entered the tower in a competition with Old Man Valen, the two of them trying to see who could ascend to the highest floor.

It was their first time here, so they were pretty hotheaded, Father more than Valen, as one would expect.

He went on a total rampage, giving the tower the same treatment she had received from me during the exam trials.

It wasn’t until the tower spirit got fed up with his antics that she, as usual, manipulated the rules and sent these two against him.

But these guys were fresh off their rebellion, so once Father had shown promise, they decided to train him instead.

Using their authority over death, they killed the concept of time within the training area, temporarily cutting off the tower spirit’s influence as they drilled into Father all they knew.

Needless to say, the tower spirit wasn’t happy about it. So the moment they removed their powers, she locked them up permanently, but the damage had already been done.

Father went on to run roughshod through the entire tower until he was waylaid at the 700th floor. The tower hadn’t even bothered to give him anything for his troubles. She just sent the old man packing as soon as he was on his last breath.

"Heh! Tower o’ tower, your pettiness truly knows no bounds."

"Humph! Like father, like son. Both are insufferable men."

I ignored the voice echoing through the entire structure, attention returning to the two death knights.

"So, it was during this training period that the old man promised to make you cronies the grandparents to his child?"

"Exactly. And what a deal it was, hahahahahahaha!!!!" Momon laughed.

"What kind of maniac just decides something like that on the spot?" I couldn’t help being stunned. I mean, I knew my old man was a wildcard from all the stories I’d heard of him lately, but this was taking it a bit too far, wasn’t it?

"Heh! That’s just Regulus in a nutshell. The other one was a bit more level-headed, though we never did get the chance to meet him."

They must be talking about Old Man Valen.

"Haa... I guess that’s that for my answer." I let out a long breath before asking the next curious thing on my mind. "So about this Death guy, what happened? If Death is your master, then how did you end up here? And what is here?"

"Heh! Master? Is that what you call someone that forsakes his followers the moment something more powerful appears?" Grandpa Momon scoffed.

"Momon..."

"Omari, I do not wish to hear it."

"We took an oath."

"I took an oath to serve a master that is worthy of being served. He... has lost that right. A being that bows before someone stronger is not worth my servitude." At Momon’s words, Omari fell silent.

Their conversation intrigued me to no end.

They were supposedly followers of the true Death. Not just people bearing cool monikers. Yet from their conversation, it seemed something more powerful than true Death had been the reason they were here?

What?

"Okay. Pause." I had to break up the heavy silence. "Let me get this straight," I began, finally getting their full attention. "You guys were once followers of the true Death?"

"It is indeed so, young lad." Grandpa Omari sighed.

"Yet you were supposedly captured and sent to this tower by something more powerful than Death?"

"That is also right."

"Hold up. There’s actually something more powerful than True Death?" I know it sounded weird when I said it out loud, especially since I had, myself, put Death in its place back at the abyss, but I’ve always said my case wasn’t a point of reference, now, even more so.

"Hehehe... young lad. You’re only now just getting ready to go out and explore the wider cosmos, so let me start with this piece of advice," Grandpa Momon began. "Whatever you think you know about power, forget it." I was tempted to tell him that he didn’t really understand the being he was speaking to, but I decided to let him have his moment.

"Out there, you’ll see things that challenge what you truly understand about the concept of power. Laws? Even they are not supreme, for there are those even beyond them, those that command the very laws to order." Grandpa Momon looked around at the dreary environment. "And it was one such being that placed us here."

"And where exactly is here, Grandpa Momon?"

"Heh! You Terrans gave it a fancy name like the Tower of Ascension due to your ignorance, but that is not what this place is."

He stood up, eyes burning brightly.

"This, little one, is the cosmic dungeon created by one of the seven pillars of the cosmos, The Pillar of Penance."

At the mere mention of that name, I could feel a presence threatening to fall upon Terra, but,

"Humph!" I’d be damned if I allowed it.

The sensation was shattered immediately at the sound of my voice.

"This, young lad," Grandpa Momon continued without missing a beat...

"Is the Dungeon of Eternal Grievance, and it was designated as our place for Eternal Rest."

"Welcome, little one, to our eternal prison."
