Shen Haoran slowly walked up to Hou Di and looked down at him with an indifferent expression. It was true that not a single trace of Spiritual Power was circulating in his body, making him seem no different from an ordinary person. But Shen Haoran had another identity that couldn't be forgotten: he was an Alchemist. And a powerful one at that—a Sixth Grade Alchemist. His Spiritual Thought was even stronger than that of a typical Spirit Emperor Powerhouse. Dealing with someone like Hou Di was a simple matter.
As Shen Haoran's power suddenly erupted, a bright light flashed in Lady Ya's eyes. The corners of her mouth curled up slightly into a joyful smile. Meanwhile, Da Mao, Er Mao, and the others snapped their eyes open upon feeling the immense pressure, their faces filled with disbelief. 'This pressure... it's so familiar! Isn't this the peerless expert who saved us when we were besieged by the Gale Demon Wolves?'
They gazed at Shen Haoran's back, their eyes filled with excitement. 'I can't believe it! The peerless expert we've admired all this time is actually Shen Haoran!'
Shen Haoran, however, crouched down with a blank expression. He lifted Hou Di's chin with his hand and asked coldly, "Speak. Who tipped you off? How did you know we would be here?"
Staring into Shen Haoran's icy eyes, Hou Di trembled uncontrollably. He felt the chilling threat of death emanating from Shen Haoran. Even though the man had no discernible Spiritual Power fluctuations, Hou Di couldn't muster the slightest will to resist. This wasn't just a suppression of physical power; it was a psychological and spiritual suppression—one born of Spiritual Thought!
"I... I don't know! We just received orders from our superiors. They said Bai Shuo would be escorting the Princess—from the marriage alliance between the Fox Race and the Vajra Ape Race—back to White Fox City along this road. That's why we ambushed you here!" Hou Di stammered, his previous arrogance completely gone.
"'You don't know?'" Shen Haoran's brows furrowed as he watched Hou Di's panicked expression. 'He's probably not lying. Under the pressure of my Spiritual Thought, I doubt he'd dare try to deceive me. This means he and the other one were just pawns. It seems the mastermind is hidden quite deep.'
Shen Haoran slowly stood up and made a clenching motion with his hand in Hou Di's direction. The massive fist of Spiritual Thought instantly dissolved into countless threads that enveloped Hou Di.
"If you don't know anything, then there's no reason to keep you around. Farewell," Shen Haoran said indifferently.
At these words, Hou Di's face instantly turned ashen. He roared at Shen Haoran, "I already told you everything I know! Why do you still want to kill me?!"
"I don't recall ever saying I *wouldn't* kill you," Shen Haoran replied coolly. "I gave you ten breaths, but you didn't value the opportunity. You only get one chance, and you missed it." With that, he clenched his fist. The countless threads of Spiritual Thought tightened in an instant. Hou Di only had time to let out a bloodcurdling scream before Shen Haoran obliterated him.
"AHH!"
Hou Di's scream echoed through the mountain forest, freezing everyone in their tracks. They stared at the blood that dripped down like rain. From the Bai Family Army to the Snow Wolf Race warriors, from Bai Shuo to Zhu Tian, no one could immediately process what had just happened. 'Hou Di, a Tier Five Spirit Aspect powerhouse... is dead? Just like that?'
Zhu Tian stared hard at Shen Haoran, who still showed no sign of Spiritual Power fluctuations. His expression grew grim. 'So it was this kid who killed Hou Di. It seems we've miscalculated this time. To think they had an expert like this hidden among them.'
"Retreat!" Zhu Tian knew that without Hou Di, a Spirit Aspect Powerhouse, capturing Lady Ya was now impossible. Worse, the enemy had someone who could kill a warrior of Hou Di's caliber in an instant. 'If we drag this out any longer,' he thought, 'the entire Snow Wolf Race contingent will be annihilated!'
Hearing Zhu Tian's command, the Snow Wolf Race warriors immediately broke from the fight and retreated swiftly into the forest. Just as the Bai Family Army prepared to pursue them, Bai Shuo stopped them.
"Don't give chase! It could be a trick to lure the tiger from the mountain. Protect Lady Ya!" Bai Shuo called out. With that, he turned his gaze toward Lady Ya and her companions, his eyes lingering on Shen Haoran for a few moments before he looked away.
Seeing this, Shen Haoran's eyes narrowed, and he shot Bai Shuo a meaningful glance. 'This Bai Shuo... he's more than he seems.'
"Brother Shen, you're incredible! I never imagined you were so powerful!"
"Exactly! Hou Di was a Spirit Aspect Tier powerhouse, but he couldn't even take one hit from you! Are you a Spirit Emperor Level powerhouse?"
"Brother Shen, how did you do it? We can't sense any Spiritual Power from you at all! To think you were this strong and hiding it from us all this time!"
Before Shen Haoran could give it much thought, the surrounding Martial Artists swarmed him, all talking at once. Shen Haoran was left speechless. 'Looks like revealing my strength wasn't such a wise decision after all.'
"And here I was, thinking you weren't going to make a move." Amid the noisy chatter of the crowd, Lady Ya walked over. She casually tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her gaze fixed intently on Shen Haoran.
Hearing this, Shen Haoran shrugged helplessly. "What choice did I have? Your acting was just too good, Lady Ya. How could I bear to let them take you away?"
"Tch, smooth talker," Lady Ya retorted playfully, though a triumphant smile touched her lips.
Seeing the smile on Lady Ya's lips, Shen Haoran could only press a hand to his forehead and give a wry smile. Before she had volunteered to go with Hou Di, Lady Ya had given him a long, deep look. Her gaze had then lingered on him for several more moments. If Shen Haoran hadn't been able to understand the meaning in her eyes after all that, he'd have to be a complete fool.
Lady Ya had been taking a gamble. She was betting that Shen Haoran was the same powerhouse who had saved her before. She was betting that he would never stand by and watch Hou Di take her away.
"Tell me, Lady Ya," Shen Haoran asked, "weren't you at all afraid that I might have actually been a regular person with no Cultivation whatsoever?"
At his question, Lady Ya just chuckled. "But you're not, are you?" she replied, her eyes brimming with confidence. At this, Shen Haoran could only concede that Lady Ya had him completely figured out.
"Let's get back on the road. Watch out, the Snow Wolf Race could circle back," Bai Shuo said coldly, walking over with the Bai Family Army while the others were joking around.
Hearing this, everyone nodded and hurried to get their things in order. If Zhu Tian returned with reinforcements from the Snow Wolf Race, escape would be impossible.
As everyone bustled about, no one noticed the cold glint in Bai Shuo's eyes. Shen Haoran, however, was watching his every move. He especially noted the look Bai Shuo cast toward Hou Di's corpse. This only served to confirm Shen Haoran's suspicions. 'This Bai Shuo... he's more than he seems...'
