After their previous clash with the Snow Wolf Race, Lady Ya and the others no longer dared to linger on the road. At her urging, they spurred their horses on and soon arrived before White Fox City. Led by Bai Shuo, they rode straight into the city.

BOOM!

The moment they entered, a tumultuous roar of noise crashed over them like a tidal wave, leaving everyone dazed for a second. Having grown accustomed to the chirping of insects and the songs of birds in the mountain forests, the sudden transition to such a boisterous marketplace was a bit jarring.

Shen Haoran curiously sized up his surroundings. He had never been to a Demon Race city before, but from the looks of it, it was hardly different from a Human Race city. The various markets, stalls, and shops were all identical, though each likely had its own unique characteristics. However, Shen Haoran only had time for a fleeting glance before Bai Shuo and the Bai Family Army led him toward the Bai Residence in the center of the city.

Soon, the group arrived at the Bai Residence in the heart of the city. Gazing at the magnificent and imposing estate, Da Mao and Er Mao's eyes filled with excitement. For years, they had followed Lady Ya, hiding and fleeing, sleeping either in caves or out in the open. How could they ever have seen such a splendid mansion!

Shen Haoran also surveyed the Bai Residence with great interest. Looking at the grand estate, which was no less impressive than those of the great families of the Human Race, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly, 'The Fox Race really knows how to live.'

As they took in the sights, they arrived at the main gate of the Bai Residence. A group of men was waiting there in formation. Upon seeing Bai Shuo and the others, a middle-aged man at the head of the group immediately came forward to greet them.

"Haha, we've been eagerly awaiting your arrival!" the richly-dressed middle-aged man said with a booming laugh, looking at Bai Shuo.

"Second Uncle, I have fulfilled my mission. I've brought the Young Miss back safely!" Bai Shuo said, bowing respectfully to the middle-aged man. This man was Bai Hong, the second son of the Lord of White Fox City and Lady Ya's paternal uncle.

"Good. I received the messages you sent," Bai Hong said, waving his hand. "Now, where is my dear niece? Let me see her." He looked past Bai Shuo and his eyes immediately landed on Lady Ya.

"Haha, my dear niece! I haven't seen you in years. I never expected you to grow up to be so lovely. I remember when you were little, you were just a chubby little butterball!" Bai Hong walked right up to Lady Ya and said with a wide grin.

However, Lady Ya only offered a faint smile in response to Bai Hong's show of affection. She then said softly, "Elder Bai Hong, please watch your words. I am not some Young Miss of the Bai Family, nor am I a Princess of the Fox Race. I am merely a despised Half-human Half-demon. By associating with me so openly, aren't you afraid of what others might say behind your back?"

Hearing Lady Ya's words, Bai Hong's outstretched hand froze in mid-air. He slowly retracted it and said with some awkwardness, "What, my dear niece, are you still angry about what happened back then? You must understand, Father—that is, your grandfather—had his own difficult reasons. He had no choice. After all, it was all to protect the reputation of the Fox Race!"

At his words, Lady Ya shot Bai Hong a cold glare and said mercilessly, "Protect the Fox Race's reputation? Is that your reason for forcing my mother to her death and driving me out of the clan before I was even an adult? If I hadn't promised my mother I would help the Fox Race in its time of crisis, if it weren't to have her spirit tablet placed within the clan's ancestral hall, I absolutely would not be here today. In fact, I would be quite happy to see the Fox Race in its current predicament!"

Lady Ya's voice was utterly frigid. This was the first time Shen Haoran had ever seen hatred in her eyes. Yes, Lady Ya was indeed kind-hearted, but she had another side to her. The Fox Race had forced her mother to her death and cast her out before she was an adult. Losing the protection of both her clan and her mother, only she knew how much she had suffered over the years. Even the gentlest, kindest person could grow to harbor such hatred.

Indeed, if the Fox Race hadn't offered to return her mother's spirit tablet to the ancestral hall in exchange for her help this time, she wouldn't be here. Lady Ya's mother had grown up in the Fox Race and possessed the purest of bloodlines; her only sense of belonging was to the clan. After she was discovered to have had a clandestine affair with a human, the clan expelled her, striking her name from their records. Her mother's greatest dying wish was to be returned to the Fox Race's clan register. This time, Lady Ya was acting solely to fulfill her mother's wish.

Hearing Lady Ya's icy words, Bai Hong's expression turned grim. But the thought that she was still of great use to the Fox Race forced him to suppress his anger. He put on an apologetic smile and said, "That whole affair was our fault. The Fox Race was in the wrong. Please, try to bear with us. As long as you help the Fox Race complete the marriage alliance, your mother's spirit tablet and name will be carved into the clan records."

"Hmph!" In response, Lady Ya merely snorted and said nothing more.

"In that case, follow me inside. The clan's Elders and senior members are all waiting for you," Bai Hong said, his previous smile now gone, replaced by a cold expression.

"Very well. But first, please arrange accommodations for my companions," Lady Ya said, gesturing to the dozen or so people behind her.

At her words, Bai Hong glanced at the plainly-dressed Martial Artists behind Lady Ya, his eyes filled with disgust. But when he saw Shen Haoran, he let out a gasp of surprise. "A member of the Human Race?"

"I can arrange for the others, but not this human. The Fox Race has always forbidden members of the Human Race from entering!" Bai Hong said coldly, staring at Shen Haoran.

But after Bai Hong had spoken, Bai Shuo stepped forward and whispered a few words in his ear. Bai Hong's expression became a little unnatural. The coldness on his face quickly vanished, replaced by a broad smile as he approached Shen Haoran. "However, this young brother is clearly a dragon among men, so of course the Fox Race welcomes him! Men, prepare a luxurious guest room for this young brother and send a few maids to attend to him!"

Shen Haoran watched Bai Hong's instantaneous change in expression, and an imperceptible glint flashed in his eyes. He then said coolly, "That won't be necessary. I have other matters to attend to, so I won't impose. Farewell."

From the conversation between Bai Hong and Lady Ya, Shen Haoran had already sensed that something was amiss. The Fox Race was not at peace, nor was it as simple as it appeared on the surface. His internal injuries had not yet healed, and he was still unable to use his Spiritual Power. He really did not want to get dragged into a struggle that had nothing to do with him. As for the life-saving debt he owed Lady Ya, Shen Haoran felt he had already repaid it twice. From now on, she would have to rely on herself.

Hearing that Shen Haoran was leaving, Lady Ya did not try to stop him. This was a matter for her Fox Race, and she had never wanted him to get involved in this conflict in the first place.

Gazing at Shen Haoran's departing figure, Lady Ya sighed softly and turned to walk into the Bai Residence. What she didn't know was that she and Shen Haoran were already inextricably linked, and that he had long since been drawn into this very struggle...
