"Bai Shuo, is what you said true? That kid from the Human Race instantly killed Hou Di of the Snow Wolf Race in a single blow?" Bai Hong asked in a low voice, staring at Bai Shuo's back.
"That's right. It was a single blow. Hou Di couldn't even fight back! Although there wasn't the slightest fluctuation of Spiritual Power from his body, he's undeniably powerful!" Bai Shuo said coldly, his eyes narrowing.
"Keep a close eye on him. That kid is strange. Even if he has no strength himself, he might have a powerful expert backing him. It would be for the best if we could make him work for us. But if he has ulterior motives and refuses... then kill him!" A murderous glint flashed in Bai Hong's eyes.
"Yes, sir!" Bai Shuo acknowledged the order, then turned and led the Bai Family Army into the shadows. Bai Hong gave Shen Haoran one last, deep look before averting his gaze and following Lady Ya and the others toward the Bai Family's council hall.
「...」
Meanwhile, Shen Haoran had already started wandering around White Fox City, taking in the sights of the Demon Race's town and enjoying its exotic atmosphere. As he walked down the street, however, he drew more than a few stares. White Fox City had always forbidden humans from entering, so everyone was quite curious to see one brazenly strolling through the city streets.
Under the gazes of the surrounding Demon Race members, Shen Haoran felt his skin crawl. He had no choice but to take out a large, black robe and cover himself. Then, he began searching the streets for a medicine shop. Shen Haoran needed to heal his injuries as quickly as possible, which meant he had to start gathering Spirit Medicine.
However, after searching the streets for half a day, Shen Haoran couldn't find a single medicine shop. He was left speechless. 'How can a town this big not have a single medicine shop?'
In the end, Shen Haoran had to ask one of the local demons. At this rate, there was no telling how long his search would take.
"You're not from around here, are you? Among the Demon Race, things like Spirit Medicine and Elixirs are extremely rare. They're kept under guard in a special place. If you want some, your only option is to go to the Medicine Hall!" an old man explained to Shen Haoran.
'The Medicine Hall!' Shen Haoran nodded. Following the old man's directions, he soon arrived at White Fox City's Medicine Hall. Gazing at the building, which looked quite similar to the Human Race's Pill Halls, Shen Haoran stepped inside.
"Excuse me, do you have these particular medicines?" Shen Haoran walked up to the front counter and handed over a piece of paper on which he had written down a few of the Spirit Medicines from Elder Yan's Pill Recipe.
Sitting at the front counter was a woman who looked to be about the same age as Lady Ya, but her appearance was a world apart. This was especially true of her figure. If Shen Haoran couldn't faintly make out facial features on her face, he would have thought he was looking at a giant meatball sitting there!
"Do you have authorization?" the large woman asked without even looking up, continuing to stuff her face with the food in her hand.
"Authorization? What authorization?" Hearing the woman's words, Shen Haoran froze, unable to process it for a moment. 'You need authorization to buy Spirit Medicine?'
"What are you doing here buying Spirit Medicine without authorization? Hmph, another lovestruck fool captivated by my beauty. You people are so annoying, always using the same old tricks to get close to me. Can't you be more original!" Hearing that Shen Haoran didn't even have authorization, the woman at the counter pointed a finger at his nose and started yelling.
"..." Shen Haoran was instantly rendered speechless by the furious, large woman. 'What does she mean, a man captivated by her beauty? Lovestruck, even? With a face like that, no one on the street would give her a second glance, let alone be captivated!'
"Um, you've misunderstood. I'm just here to buy Spirit Medicine!" Shen Haoran said, fighting back the urge to gag as he clarified his purpose for being there.
"Just here to buy Spirit Medicine? Why didn't you say so sooner? You made me waste my emotions for nothing!" The large woman shot him a disgusted look when she saw his serious expression.
Hearing this, Shen Haoran's face immediately darkened. 'I've been asking about it ever since I walked in, haven't I? What does she mean, "Why didn't you say so sooner"?!' Fortunately, Shen Haoran was well-mannered enough to maintain a strained smile. "Excuse me, what is this authorization you're talking about? Is some kind of proof required to purchase Spirit Medicine?"
At his question, the large woman looked Shen Haoran up and down. She then stroked her chin—which seemed to have several layers—and said, "Looks like you're from the Human Race. Tsk, tsk. So pale and clean... you're just my type!"
At that, Shen Haoran's expression turned frosty. Encountering a receptionist like this was testing the limits of even his good temperament. He slammed his hand on the counter and demanded, "I'm here to buy Spirit Medicine, not to be set up on a blind date! Please be a little more professional!"
"Tch, what are you getting so aggressive for? It's not like I wasn't going to tell you. You need authorization to buy Spirit Medicine in the Medicine Hall! The authorization is issued by the Medicine Hall itself. So, if you want to buy Spirit Medicine, you have to go inside and get approval from the person in charge!" the large woman said with a wronged expression, seeing Shen Haoran's anger.
"Are there any conditions?" Shen Haoran asked again. He hadn't expected buying a single stalk of Spirit Medicine in the Demon Race's territory to be so troublesome.
"No real conditions. They just investigate you to see what you're buying the Spirit Medicine for. The Demon Race isn't bound by as many rules as you humans, so if someone were to misuse Spirit Medicine, the consequences would be dire. Of course, if you're an Alchemist, you can skip the investigation. After all, your Human Race's Pill Halls and our Demon Race's Medicine Hall are practically one family; there's no distinction between us!" the large woman explained.
"An Alchemist?" Shen Haoran's eyes lit up. If all he needed was the status of an Alchemist to get the Medicine Hall's authorization, then things would be much easier.
Seeing the joyful expression on Shen Haoran's face, the large woman gave him a disdainful look. "What? Don't tell me you're an Alchemist? What a joke. Every Alchemist from your Human Race has gray hair and is over sixty years old. A little pretty boy like you—do you even know what an Alchemist is?"
"Sorry to disappoint you, but I am!" Hearing the scorn in her voice, Shen Haoran let out a cold laugh. He then retrieved his Fourth Grade Alchemist Badge from his Storage Ring and slapped it onto the counter. The four shining stars on it made the large woman's eyes pop right out of her head.
"A... a Fourth Grade Alchemist!" The large woman shrieked at the sight of the badge on the counter. She hastily snatched the Alchemist Badge and began examining it closely, looking as if she wanted to swallow it whole.
"Now, take me to see your Hall Master. I need to purchase Spirit Medicine!" Shen Haoran said coolly, snatching his Alchemist Badge back.
"Oh, oh... yes! Sir, please follow me this way!" The large woman gave the Alchemist Badge in Shen Haoran's hand one last, reluctant look. Then, she respectfully led the way, guiding Shen Haoran into the Medicine Hall's Inner Hall...
