Chapter 115: Chapter 115
Lena’s POV
“Can’t sleep?” he asked when he saw her put down her phone.
She lay there quietly, eyes shut, not saying a word.
He crouched by the bed. “Hungry? I can have someone bring up some food.”
His gentleness threw her off. It was so soft, so careful, it almost felt like they’d both somehow lost the plot.
She still didn’t open her eyes. He didn’t push. Instead, he climbed onto the bed from the other side, settled behind her, slid one arm around her waist, and drew her back against his chest.
That was the kind of thing people in love did.
Her heart started pounding again, totally out of control.
Honestly, she was starving. After last night, every bit of energy she had stored up felt completely burned through.
Her stomach let out an embarrassing growl, loud enough to make pretending to sleep straight-up impossible.
She took his hand off her waist and shifted toward the edge of the bed.
His arm tightened at once and pulled her back against him. “Where are you going?”
“To find food.”
He let go immediately. “Don’t go. I’ll get it.”
In less than a minute, he was dressed, out of bed, and gone.
She didn’t have the strength to argue. Her whole body was still sore.
In the end, she forced herself up anyway. She ignored the dress he’d prepared for her and slipped on the hotel robe instead.
The dress wouldn’t cover the marks on her neck.
Dominic came back with a bag in one hand, his phone pressed to his ear. “Handle it on your end. I’ll call you later.”
He ended the call, set the food on the table, and opened the containers. “Come eat.”
I was so hungry there was no way I could play it cool. The smell alone had me drifting across the room like I was under a spell.
So yeah, we ended up eating in the hotel room, and that pretty much killed the whole romantic-trip vibe. Still, the food was insanely good.
Dominic waited until I finished before touching what was left. After everything that had happened between us, after getting that close, sharing a meal didn’t even feel like a thing anymore.
I watched him eat my leftovers, trying hard to sort through the mess of last night in my head.
What the hell had happened to me last night? What was it that made me change so suddenly?
Maybe it was this place. The heat. The freedom in the air. The sea breeze that felt like it could dissolve every last restraint.
Or maybe it was something that had been building inside me for months, pressure piling up until it finally burst. Like somehow, no matter what, we were always going to crash into each other.
Then the thought hit me out of nowhere.
I shot to my feet, grabbed my phone, and rushed for the door.
"What are you doing?"
"I’m heading out for a minute."
We hadn’t used any protection last night. He’d finished inside me.
"Wait." Dominic set down his fork and came after me. "What do you need?"
I didn’t bother hiding it. "Is there a pharmacy nearby?"
He seemed to think I was still hurting from last night, and he led me down the street. A few minutes later, we found a tiny pharmacy tucked between two storefronts, its shelves crowded with dried herbs and bottled tinctures.
I stepped inside. I already knew what I needed—a herbal remedy to prevent pregnancy.
I told the shopkeeper, and she placed a small glass bottle on the counter, filled with a dark liquid.
I reached for it, but Dominic got there first. He paid, picked up the bottle, and walked back out.
I followed him outside. "Give it to me."
He stopped and looked at me, his gaze heavy, unreadable. "You don’t want a pup?"
"We’re ending the contract, Dominic. What happened last night stays last night. I can’t let it turn into a mistake."
"A mistake?"
"If I get pregnant right when we’re about to end this, then yeah, that’s a mistake. A child shouldn’t have to pay for two adults being reckless."
"Then we don’t end the contract."
"A relationship without love doesn’t magically become happy just because there’s a baby. Growing up with parents who don’t truly love each other—that’s not a life. That’s a punishment."
Lena held on to that belief with everything she had. She could be careless with her own body if she wanted, but she would never gamble with a child’s life.
"Give me the medicine."
He stared at her, fingers clamped tight around the bottle. The air between them went stiff, neither of them moving an inch.
She slowly let her hand fall. "Fine. I’ll just go buy another one."
The second she turned, he caught her wrist, pressed the bottle into her palm, then let go.
He walked to a nearby stall and came back with a bottle of water, his face cold enough to freeze the room.
Lena pulled the stopper from the bottle and swallowed the medicine in one go. The bitter herbal taste hit hard, burning all the way down her throat.
Without a word, he handed her the water. She drank half of it, trying to wash the taste out of her mouth.
The medicine wasn’t foolproof. Nothing in this world ever was. But this was the best option she had.
Back at the hotel, she sat on the edge of the bed, silently praying her luck would hold.
"What if it doesn’t work?" Dominic asked. He had barely spoken the whole way back. "What are you going to do then?"
"It’ll work."
"No method works one hundred percent of the time."
"I won’t keep it," she said, without even a second of hesitation.
He looked at her, something dark and unreadable flickering in his eyes. She couldn’t keep talking about it. She turned away.
Last night’s happiness had already curdled into anxiety. She was scared—seriously scared.
Lena kept telling herself she’d already made up her mind. If it really happened, she wouldn’t keep it. But the truth was, if it really did happen, she had no idea whether she’d actually be able to go through with that.
She stayed in the hotel for two full days. No sightseeing, no wandering around, no enjoying the trip. She just sat there and waited.
On the morning of the second day, she felt that familiar cramping start low in her stomach.
She rushed into the bathroom. For the first time in her life, the sight of blood made her feel grateful. The relief hit so hard it almost brought tears to her eyes.
"Dominic!" she called from the bathroom.
He showed up at the door almost instantly. "What is it?"
"Can you go buy me some pads?"
He paused for a second. "I’ll be right back."
The second her period came, the tension between them basically melted away.
Her mood lifted with it. The dark cloud hanging over her for the past two days disappeared in a flash. She wasn’t pregnant. Her body was just doing what it was supposed to do, nothing more.
Her steps felt light again, and the color slowly returned to her face.
Dominic noticed the change in her right away. But strangely, her recovery didn’t make him feel better.
"When you agreed to this arrangement," he said quietly that night, "you told me you’d give me an heir."
The words came so suddenly her brain didn’t even catch up at first. "That was because you were practically dying back then."
The moment the words left her mouth, she realized she’d said too much. She quickly softened her tone. "You’re healthy now. You’ve got decades ahead of you. There’s no rush."
He let out a slow breath. "True. Having puppies too early would mean no time alone for us. Waiting a few more years isn’t a bad thing."
"Exactly." She nodded, secretly relieved he wasn’t pressuring her.
"Next time, I’ll be prepared." His tone was calm, almost too calm.
She blinked.
Next time.
The way he said it made it sound totally natural, like of course there’d be a next time.
Lena had to keep reminding herself: once her period was over, they’d go back to the Bloodmoon Pack, back to real life, back to that arrangement that could melt away at any moment.
Whatever happened in that so-called "next time," she wouldn’t be part of it.
The first day was the roughest. The cramps clamped around her lower body like a steel trap, squeezing until she could barely breathe. Dominic handed her some pain-relief herbs, then lay down behind her, his palm flat against her stomach, warmth steadily seeping into her skin.
She couldn’t turn down his care. Honestly, she didn’t want to.
Little by little, she let herself sink into it.
"Feeling any better?" he asked softly, his voice brushing against her ear.
She didn’t open her eyes. She was too deep in his gentleness, too caught in it, like even breathing would break the moment.
"I’m a little uncomfortable," he said after a pause.
Her brows pulled together. She was just about to turn and look at him when he stopped her with one hand.
"What is it?" she asked, completely clueless.
A second passed.
Then it hit her all at once.
His erection was pressed against her backside, and the realization slammed into her like a freight train.
"Dominic!" She tried to shove him away.
He only held her tighter, trapping her hands against her chest as his body pressed fully against hers. And somehow, he got even harder. "That’s a normal male physiological response."
"You—I—we—" she stammered, words crashing into each other.
How could he be like this?
"You were pretty bold before. Where’d that go?" He pulled her even closer, not the least bit sorry. "You weren’t this shy before."
