Chapter 136: Chapter 136

Lena’s POV

She shook her head.

Anna let out a scoff. "Men are super easy to soothe. Be nice to him for two minutes, and boom, he forgets why he was mad in the first place."

"That’s not even true." Lena leaned against the table, her voice low. "Lately, I don’t even feel like myself when I’m around him."

"Maybe the version of you in front of him is the real you."

Lena didn’t buy that for a second.

Anna pushed her empty bowl aside, folded her arms on the table, and looked straight at her. "The second a woman falls for someone, she changes. Just look at you. Sitting here stressing over Dominic instead of actually living your life."

Lena copied her expression, resting her chin on her arms. "I want this relationship to last."

"Then fight for it."

"I just keep feeling like we’re not going to make it."

Anna’s brows pulled together. "Why would you even think that?"

"I’ve felt it for a long time."

"Stop creating problems out of thin air." Anna reached out and tapped the ring on Lena’s finger lightly. "If things really fall apart one day, deal with it then. Right now, you’re fine, he’s fine, and you’re together. Be his mate. Hold on to him tight. Make it impossible for him to live without you."

Lena lowered her eyes to the ring and laughed. "Why not just tell me to have pups so he’ll be locked down for good?"

"If you want to, sure. But we are not the kind of she-wolves who keep a man by using pups." Anna patted her hand, her tone turning softer. "Have pups when you’re ready, not when you’re scared. We can live independently. Pups are not glue for a broken relationship."

Lena looked at her and grinned. "Since when did you get this wise?"

"It’s easy to be smart when it’s somebody else’s mess."

That afternoon, Morgan texted Lena and asked her to meet for coffee.

She had already expected a message from Morgan. She just hadn’t thought it would come this fast.

When Lena arrived at the café, Morgan was already there, seated with a cup of coffee in front of her.

I sat down. A server came over, and Lena ordered a latte. Morgan added a slice of cake like it was the most natural thing in the world.

"I don’t really want to say this," Morgan said without wasting a second, "but thanks for what you did last night."

Lena looked straight at her. "I didn’t do it for you. I would’ve done the same for anyone."

"I know." Morgan gave a small nod. "Still, I’m the one who owes you."

The coffee arrived. Lena took a sip, letting the warmth spread across her tongue, but she didn’t say a word.

Morgan tapped her fingers lightly against the table, restless, clearly not as calm as she was trying to look. "So... how are things between you and Dominic?"

If a friend had asked that, it would’ve been normal. Totally fair. But hearing it from Morgan, hearing her say his name so casually, so familiar, in a tone way too close for someone who supposedly wasn’t his friend—it instantly put Lena on guard.

"I asked Dominic about you," Lena said. "He said he doesn’t know you."

"He doesn’t," Morgan admitted, face unreadable, like she wasn’t bothered at all.

Lena frowned. "Then what exactly are you trying to do here?"

Morgan settled back in her chair, both hands resting on her knees, eyes level with Lena’s. "I’m just curious how your arrangement with him is going."

"We’re not close enough for you to ask me something like that."

"Relax. I’m not interested in him." She took a sip of her drink, calm on the surface. "And even if I were, he wouldn’t spare me a second glance."

"Glad we’re on the same page about that."

A faint, sharp smile curled at Morgan’s mouth. "He barely looks twice at most she-wolves. If it weren’t for the curse, if you hadn’t gone to him first and offered to be his mate, he wouldn’t have looked twice at you either."

Lena’s whole body went stiff.

Morgan knew about the curse.

She knew about the deal too—knew Lena had gone to Dominic carrying that agreement in her hands.

"You seem to know a lot about him," Lena said carefully, every word measured.

"Enough."

She was holding back. Big time. And no matter how hard Lena pushed, she couldn’t crack that wall Morgan had built around herself.

Then a thought flashed through her mind.

"Are you friends with Eliza?"

The second Eliza came up, Morgan’s face went ice-cold. “No.”

That only made Lena more curious.

Morgan clearly knew things only people in Dominic’s inner circle should know, but she wasn’t friends with Eliza, and she’d already claimed she didn’t even know Dominic.

“Who you’re connected to doesn’t really matter.” Lena set her cup down gently. “You’re right, sure, people can make all kinds of guesses. But the fact is, he’s my mate, and I’m his. That part isn’t up for debate.”

Morgan studied her for a long moment, like she was sizing her up from the inside out.

“You’d make a great model,” she said suddenly, switching tracks so fast it was almost jarring. “Come work with me. I could turn you into someone this industry couldn’t ignore. You’ve got the look for it.”

Lena almost laughed. “Can you even keep your company alive? After what happened last night?”

Morgan knew exactly what she meant. Garrett had threatened to blacklist her. Her company was basically dead before it had even gotten off the ground.

But Morgan didn’t so much as blink. “If it really comes to that, I’ll go to Alpha Dominic. With him backing me, nobody would dare touch my company.”

She said it on purpose.

The words dropped into Lena’s chest like a stone. Something heavy and sharp lodged there, something she couldn’t name, couldn’t dig out, and definitely couldn’t ignore.

Morgan barely knew Dominic. She’d said so herself. And yet she spoke with total confidence, like going to him would fix everything in one shot.

Which meant the person connecting them had real weight in Dominic’s world. The kind of person who could say one sentence and make him move.

Not Eliza. Someone else.

Who?

The question stayed stuck in Lena’s head the whole way there. Even after she arrived and sat outside Dominic’s office building, staring blankly at the sidewalk like her mind had gone offline, she still couldn’t shake it.

Daniel walked over. “Luna, Alpha asked me to bring you up.”

They took the elevator to the top floor. Daniel led her straight to Dominic’s office.

“He’s in a meeting right now. Please wait here.” Daniel set out tea and a plate of fruit for her before quietly leaving.

Lena looked around. The office was clean and sharp, everything in perfect order. And the best part was the huge floor-to-ceiling window stretching across the entire wall.

She stood there with a cup of black tea in hand, looking out over the territory through the floor-to-ceiling window. This was the most developed part of the whole region. Skyscrapers packed the skyline, and the streets below were jammed with cars, nonstop, like the city never hit pause.

Standing that high up, Lena finally got it—why so many people clawed their way upward no matter the cost. Looking down on everything gave a person a crazy kind of rush, like nothing in the world could touch them.

The door behind her opened.

She turned, and Dominic Voss walked in. He gave her one brief look, then went straight behind his desk and sat down.

"What do you want?" His tone was flat, almost cold.

Lena couldn’t help thinking, Seriously? You’re still mad after all this time? Over that?

So dramatic. Honestly kind of childish.

She walked toward him. "Busy?"

"Very."

She stopped on the other side of his desk. His fingers kept tapping across the keyboard, focused and steady. He looked so locked in that it was like she didn’t even exist.

Then he shut the laptop, planted both hands on the desk, and looked straight at her. "Why are you here?"

"To make it up to you." She held out the tea she’d been drinking. "Truce?"

He leaned back in his chair, glanced at the cup, and moved his jaw slightly. "No."

Lena set the cup down, rounded the desk, and stopped beside him. Then she lifted the cup to his lips. "Non-negotiable ceasefire terms."

He turned his head away.

She lowered the tea, reached out, pinched his chin between two fingers, and tipped his face up before kissing him.

His pupils tightened at once.

She pulled back half a step. "How about now?"

His hand was still around her wrist, but the grip had loosened. His throat moved slightly as he swallowed. "What exactly are you trying to do?"

"I already told you." She flashed him a grin. "Make it up to you. Now let go of my wrist. You’re seriously limiting my range of motion."

He kept holding her hand for a few more seconds, then finally let go.

Lena cupped his face with both hands, looking at him softly. Her voice dropped, low and gentle. "Busy?"

His arm wrapped around her waist, and he pulled her onto his lap. His breathing turned rougher, less controlled. "Then make it up to me. Now."
