Chapter 98: Chapter 98

Lena’s POV

She frowned hard. He passed out? Just like that?

The guy had already hit the floor, so what was she supposed to do now?

Dominic flicked a glance at the man sprawled on the ground, a cold, almost satisfied look flashing through his eyes. Then he turned to her. "Still want to play?"

Obviously not. He had scared her entertainment target unconscious. What was left to do?

He did it on purpose. He had come here specifically to wreck her night.

Seeing how down she looked, Dominic said evenly, "Daniel, pay the bill."

Daniel went to settle it, while the manager’s assistants carried the unconscious man out of the room.

Dominic walked ahead. Lena trailed behind him like some teenager who had snuck out and gotten busted, shoulders slumped, eyes fixed on the floor.

She shouldn’t have backed off. He had said she could play, so she should’ve just done it.

Daniel pulled the car around. Dominic stopped by the curb, and she almost walked straight into his back.

"Don’t want to go home?"

She stayed stubborn. "No. There were so many guys, and I didn’t even get to enjoy myself."

"If you want, we can go back."

"The one I picked already fainted. What’s the point now?"

"Then pick another. That one was too weak to handle a scare." He pulled open the back door. "Home, or back there?"

It all felt pointless. She walked right past him, chin lifted, and got into the car. "I’ll come back tomorrow."

He let out a breath through his nose and sat down beside her. The car started moving, and Dominic watched her staring out the window.

"Whose idea was this?" he asked.

"What?"

"Who brought up getting male company, anyway?"

Lena lifted a brow. "Anna and I both wanted to do it."

Daniel’s eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, his lips pressed into a hard line.

"You’re not single anymore. You can’t just do whatever you want," Dominic said after a beat. "You and Anna both have partners."

"If this keeps up, having a partner is basically no different from being single." Lena turned to look out the window, her mood sinking even more. "Honestly, being single is sounding better and better. I really shouldn’t have put all my eggs in one basket."

The meaning behind it was obvious: this was his fault. He hadn’t given her what she wanted.

Dominic actually laughed. He reached for her hand. She pulled away at once, but he caught it anyway, tightening his grip until their fingers laced together. After struggling for a second, she gave up.

"Speaking of Anna," Dominic said, smoothly switching topics, "she ran pretty fast tonight. Daniel, got any thoughts on that?"

Daniel kept his eyes locked on the road. "Alpha, I don’t want to talk about it."

"The second she saw you, she covered her face with her bag." Lena was still annoyed that Anna had ditched her without a shred of loyalty. "Daniel, you should make her pay for that. She dragged me into this mess, then the second you showed up, she bailed."

A muscle jumped in Daniel’s jaw. "I’ll talk to her, Luna."

"Talk?" Lena let out a small scoff, clearly not buying it. "She needs consequences. She was the one who told me to boss those guys around in the first place."

Dominic squeezed her hand, his thumb slowly rubbing over the ring on her finger. "Sounds like Anna needs a little discipline."

"She really does." Lena sold out her friend without the slightest guilt. "She talks big, but the minute things go sideways, poof, she’s gone."

Daniel didn’t say a word, but the tips of his ears had already turned red.

When they got home, Lena kicked off her shoes and walked straight inside. Dominic shut the door behind them and followed.

She put her things away, grabbed some clothes, and got ready to shower. He trailed after her all the way to the bathroom.

"What?" She tried to close the door, but he planted himself in the frame and blocked it.

His gaze moved slowly across her face, heavy and unguarded. She could hear him swallow.

"I’ll use the other bathroom." His voice came out low and rough.

My face went hot in an instant. I knew exactly what he meant.

He stepped aside, and I slammed the door shut with a bang. I leaned against it, one hand pressed to my chest, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it might jump right out.

I turned on the shower and scrubbed myself carefully, almost obsessively, like I was getting ready for something that actually mattered.

I stayed in the bathroom for half an hour before finally coming out. I checked my breathing, smoothed down my hair, tried to act normal.

The bedroom was empty.

My heart started hammering again. I ran my fingers through my damp hair one more time, breathed into my palm to make sure there was no weird smell, then slipped under the blanket and lay there staring at the door.

How long did it even take a man to shower?

Ten minutes passed, and I started wondering if he’d slipped and knocked himself out or something.

I got up, opened the bedroom door, and walked out.

Dominic was standing in the kitchen in a bathrobe, drinking water.

Our eyes met, and just like that, the air between us lit up.

I pressed my lips together. He set the glass down and walked toward me.

"No meeting tonight?" I asked as he came closer.

"No meeting tonight."

His hand settled on my waist, gentle at first, then firmer. He lowered his head and took a slow, deep breath, greedily taking in the scent of my skin, the tip of his nose brushing softly along my cheek.

A shiver ran through me from head to toe. I got it, and so did he.

I drew in a breath, wrapped my arms around his neck, and lightly wet my lower lip with my tongue. The want in my eyes had been there for days now, and at this point, there was no hiding it.

His gaze fixed on my lips. His throat moved slightly as he leaned in, slow and deliberate.

The moment our lips touched, both of us closed our eyes. At first it was soft, just a light brush, then it deepened. His hand slid around my waist and pulled me tightly against him. I could feel his heartbeat tangling with mine, our breaths mixing so close they almost became one.

My waist tightened in his hold. Without breaking the kiss, he guided me backward, step by step, through the hallway and into the bedroom.

She fell back onto the mattress, and Dominic came down right after her. His lips brushed her collarbone, then kept moving lower. The AC was set just right, but the second her clothes came off, she still shivered anyway.

Then his body covered hers, and just like that, every bit of cold in the world vanished.

Her hands slid over his solid back, feeling the tight pull of muscle beneath her fingers. She tugged him closer, her legs winding around him without thinking.

"Dominic..." His name slipped from her lips in a soft breath, so faint she barely recognized her own voice.

"Hm?"

His voice was low and rough, his hot breath fanning across her chest. His lips moved over her skin, leaving behind a trail of heat that spread outward, then sank deep into the center of her.

She couldn’t see her own face, but she could picture it clearly enough. Flushed cheeks. Eyes hazy. Wanting him so badly it was honestly game over.

He had once told her he couldn’t be with someone he didn’t love. If he was here now, skin against skin, kissing her, moving with her, then something had changed. Everything had changed.

He loved her. Maybe not all the way, maybe not fully, but at least a little.

Her fingers dug hard into his back, pulling, urging him on. And then he stopped.

She opened her eyes. "What is it?"

He reached for the phone on the nightstand. In the dark room, the screen looked brutally bright. The buzz of the phone tore through the silence, way too loud.

A wave of cold crashed over her all at once.

"Is it Eliza again?" There was anger in her voice, sharp and impossible to hide.

"My mother."

She shut her mouth immediately.

He didn’t get up. He stayed leaning over her, holding himself up with one arm. Then he answered and switched it to speaker.

"Mom."

Celeste’s voice was shaking, full of panic. "Your father was in a car accident. He’s at the pack medical center."
