Chapter 139: IT CROSSED HER MIND

"What’s up?" Jude asked when he entered the apartment, as if he owned the place.

He had been here countless times, and because it was so close to their university, all of their friends used it as a meeting point.

"Where is Olivia?" A song greeted him, which was not music that Oliver used to listen to. "I didn’t know that you listen to heavy metal. Nice song, by the way."

Jude went to the kitchen and then took a can of soda. His hair was still wet because he had just finished playing basketball, and his clothes stuck to his skin. Behind his glasses, his green eyes widened when he saw Maisie standing at the kitchen table.

"Hello?" Jude said to her, a little bit awkwardly. He had never seen her before. "Are you Oliver’s friend?"

He looked at Oliver, who had just entered the kitchen. He didn’t feel that something was off, since this was not the first time Oliver had brought a woman here.

"Yeah, you can say so," Oliver replied.

"Okay." Jude nodded. He then changed the topic. "Where is Olivia?" He came here because Oliver said Olivia wanted to see him, and Jude came without checking with her again, since he was nearby.

"She is inside that room." Oliver nodded at the room, where Leviathan was. "She is a little bit upset; go there and check."

"Upset?" Jude walked over to the room. "Why is she upset? I just bought her the bag that she wanted."

He knew his girl had been distancing herself, and he was afraid he had done something wrong; therefore, he had been trying to win her over and trying to be more affectionate.

"You should have told me that she was upset; I would have bought her favorite chocolate." Jude then entered the room, while Oliver sat down on the table next to Maisie.

It didn’t take long before the two of them heard a high-pitched scream from inside the room, and Oliver turned up the volume of the music while Jude begged for help.

***

Chloe woke up with a start. She immediately pushed herself into a sitting position and looked around her, as if she were expecting someone to attack her.

But Seara was the only one who was there, and she was no longer in the forest. The bright light from the chandelier hurt her eyes.

"It’s okay, we are safe," Seara said. She then poured a glass of water and offered it to her.

"Great. I am still alive." She took the glass from Seara’s hand after she adjusted her eyes to the light and gulped it down entirely. "Ah! My nails!" she groaned when she found out she missed two of her nail art. "That stupid bitch. Tell me that I managed to kill her."

"No. You actually passed out when Zade and the warriors arrived. The wild wolves were protecting you, and that woman disappeared immediately."

Chloe scrunched her nose in distaste. She knew she wouldn’t be able to kill the demoness. They were immortal and invincible.

"Fine, glad we are alive. I am hungry; why don’t you get me something to eat?" Chloe lay down on the bed again, pulling the blanket and stretching her body.

Hearing the request, Seara narrowed her eyes, but she didn’t do what Chloe asked her; instead, she asked a question she had been wondering about.

"You can see her? What is she?"

Zade had told her about who Lilith was, but he couldn’t give her a proper explanation because there were a few things that he needed to handle.

He promised to discuss this topic later because apparently, Seara had not received a proper education about the demons and the history of the war between the Lycans and the demons.

"You don’t know?" Chloe was surprised. "What did your parents teach you? This is a common thing for a shifter to know."

But thankfully, Chloe continued with a brief explanation about who Lilith and the demons were and what they meant for the Lycans.

"Humans can’t see them, and most of the shifters can’t see them either; it is only the Lycans and the shifters with strong wolf spirits who can see them," Chloe explained and shrugged her shoulders smugly. "I am the alpha’s daughter; of course I can see them. My wolf spirit is strong."

So, it explained why Seara was the only one who could see Lilith when she went on a date with Zade. And with the man with the red eyes... Seara tried to remember that moment.

The man kept flickering, disappearing and appearing, and Leia didn’t really see him.

"The thing with the demons is that they have no scent, so it is difficult to track them, and they can poof..." Chloe gestured with her hands dramatically. "Disappear."

It explained a lot of things for Seara now.

"But why can you see them? You don’t have a wolf spirit, and you come from what? A gamma family?" Chloe explained that mostly only the alpha or the beta could see them, unless you had Lycan blood in you. "Oops, I forgot. You are adopted. But that even makes no sense. You can be an omega."

"Or, I may be an alpha’s daughter," Seara replied with the same smugness that Chloe showed her. "Who knows?" She shrugged her shoulders as Chloe did.

Hearing that, Chloe rolled her eyes dramatically. "You wish."

But what Chloe said made Seara contemplate it. Who could be her parents? Seara had never asked about how they adopted her, because they didn’t seem to be fond of the topic.

"I am hungry; get me some food," Chloe pouted. "I have saved your life, remember?"

Seara didn’t like the way Chloe talked to her, though she was right that she indeed had saved her life.

"Back then, it crossed your mind to leave me alone, right?"

For a long moment, both of them stared at each other before Chloe admitted it. "Yes. It crossed my mind."
