Chapter 140: THE ENEMY IS CLOSE

"Why did you come back?" Seara wondered about this part the most. Chloe could have left her there and saved herself.

"Because both of us would have been dead by now if I hadn’t returned. You would not have been able to hold her back, and she would have killed you within a second, or maybe Lilith had another plan and took you away, and Zade would have killed me if that were what happened. Either way, I would be dead. Moreover, I don’t know that forest. There was a high chance I would get lost and have to stay there for a few days before they rescued me. No way I am living in the wild."

Chloe shuddered when she recalled the squelchy feeling of the mud under her feet, on her hands, and in her mouth.

"I am hungry." Chloe looked at Seara. "Get me some food."

Seara then stood up, and Chloe thought she would get her the food that she wanted; thus, she listed what she wished Seara to bring.

Meanwhile, Seara listened until she finished her request before replying. "Your feet and hands are fine; go get them yourself."

Seara then stood up and was about to leave the room, but she felt a pillow being thrown and hit her back.

"I saved your life; at least give me some food." Chloe was already sitting down and was ready to throw the second pillow.

"You can get the food yourself." Seara took the pillow and threw it at her, but Chloe dodged it easily. "I have been very nice to stay with you while you were unconscious."

Seara had been sitting there for at least three hours before Chloe regained consciousness. She initially felt guilty and was rather grateful that Chloe was willing to stay behind and gave her a chance to escape.

But the feeling immediately evaporated when this woman started to boss her around. She had had enough of this attitude from Eudora, Brigid, and Enid.

"I didn’t ask you to stay with me." Chloe threw another pillow at Seara, but she caught it and threw it back at her.

This time, Seara managed to hit her, since Chloe was still weak.

"Maisie," Caspian said after he had fixed the surveillance cameras around the watchtower, which allowed them to see who had been entering and exiting the place during that time. They also caught her poisoning the guards by giving them food.

Maisie was not a stranger to the pack. She had been around since she was a child, and her parents were working in the residence as well.

Therefore, this level of betrayal came out of the blue. Moreover, Zade was the one who had handpicked her to be Seara’s personal maid.

"This... can’t be." Zephyr narrowed his eyes in disbelief when he watched what Maisie had done. She carried the devil out of the watchtower herself, covered in a blanket, but they knew it must be him.

Missing all of his limbs would make it easier for Maisie to carry him.

The surveillance camera then showed where Maisie took the devil. She went to get one of Zade’s cars and drove it away.

On the way to the garage, she met a few people, and she looked normal. No one would question her or even think she would betray them.

It was not a problem for her to get the car key, since she had access to almost all parts of the residence. Hell, she also had free access to Seara.

"There is no sign; there must be some kind of explanation for all of this, right?" Zephyr shook his head. He came to the bungalow very often; he ate the food that Maisie and Caylin cooked. There was no sign of malicious intention from any of them.

They were stunned that one of them had been compromised. They didn’t even realize it was happening under their nose.

"Interrogate Caylin and find out what she knows about all of this."

Someone then entered the room, and it was Ace, who informed Zade that he had made contact with Altair and Asher. Both of them were on the way here.

"It’s starting," Caspian said. He had lived long enough to go through a few dark times, but the enemy had never been this close before, and the situation was worrisome.

Zade then thought of something; he gave them some orders and left the room.

Leia had to step in to stop the fight between Seara and Chloe. She came with some of the omegas to bring food for the two of them.

It was dinner time, but the men in her house had been very busy with the event that had occurred today, so no one could eat with her, and she hated eating alone. Even Jeremy was busy, trying to help.

Her son was trying so hard to get involved. Somehow, he still had the urge to prove that he deserved to be part of the family, as he was fully aware that he was adopted, even though neither Caspian nor Leia pressured him to do anything.

"What’s going on here?" Leia was surprised when she saw Seara and Chloe fighting. Each of them had a pillow in their hands, gripping it tightly like a weapon, as they hit each other. "Enough, you two!"

Hearing Leia’s stern voice, Seara and Chloe lowered the pillows, but they still glared at each other.

"She hit me!" Chloe said in an accusing tone.

"She hit me first!" Seara retorted.

"I asked her to bring me food because I am hungry! But she didn’t listen."

"Enough!" Leia raised her voice, and the two of them quieted down. "I have food for all of us, and we will eat together. I don’t want to hear any arguments."

"Mom," Chloe whined. She scrunched her nose in distaste. She had been calling Leia ’Mom’ ever since she was engaged to Zade, and she wouldn’t stop even though the engagement didn’t work.
