Chapter 79: Chapter 79 Expectation
"I have high expectations for you after you took over the business from your father. Please make him and your grandfather proud," Elder Svenn said as he sat in his chair.
"Yes, Uncle. Thank you for supporting me all this time," Maria said as she bowed slightly toward her uncle.
Both of them were currently inside Elder Svenn’s office on the top floor of the Kaiser Building, the most prestigious building in District 50.
For the past five years, Maria had been leading the Black Maria group, which she had renamed after years of using the Black Lotus name since its foundation.
Elder Svenn was one of several high-profile individuals who had invested in Maria’s efforts to rebuild the once-powerful group in the West Region.
During her grandfather’s rule, the Black Lotus gang was at its peak. Its members numbered in the tens of thousands, and it was the organization that controlled the entire West Region.
However, Maria believed her grandfather had been too ambitious. He planned to expand their influence into other regions, causing their forces to become stretched too thin. As a result, the group was defeated, and the conflict cost her grandfather his life.
After that, her father took over and led the organization for several decades. But by then, it was merely a remnant of its former self. The group could only conduct small-scale businesses while being closely monitored by other groups throughout the region.
However, after her father passed away, the next leader of the group had not yet been decided.
Elder Svenn, the younger brother of Maria’s father, was now a major stakeholder in the prestigious dungeon company Luminous Corporation, one of the most influential companies in the West Region.
Using his influence, he established Maria as the next leader and secretly supported her from the shadows.
Thanks to both of them, the Black Lotus gang, which had rebranded itself as Black Maria, was slowly regaining its former glory.
And right now, they were having a private meeting to discuss their next step in expanding their power.
"Next week, the Luminous Corporation will have a meeting to decide on the new CEO. If I manage to win it, which I believe I will, I will invest fully into Black Maria."
"Then, we will begin taking back control of the West Region. This time, I will not repeat my father’s mistake," Elder Svenn said. He was already middle-aged, with black-and-white hair and a thick black moustache.
Maria nodded. She knew that she was merely a puppet, but this group was her family’s legacy. She needed to do her best to preserve it, even if it meant keeping secrets from her husband.
After the meeting concluded, Maria was sitting in the back seat of her car when she suddenly received a call from Thom. After hearing what Thom had to say, her brows furrowed.
"Call for an emergency meeting now. I will be on my way. Call Kay Sung too." She then told the driver to drive faster as she gripped her phone tightly, her eyes sharp.
After an hour, all the personnel had gathered inside the meeting room at the Black Maria headquarters. Maria sat at the head of the oval table.
Beside her sat Kay Sung, Thom, and several other high-ranking members. One of Maria’s assistants played the CCTV recording of the incident from the previous night.
The footage showed three people raiding their club and defeating numerous Black Maria members, including the Beastly Trio.
Throughout the recording, Maria’s eyes remained sharp as the dim light from the screen reflected across her eyes. All the other members, including Thom, were afraid to say the wrong thing. Meanwhile, Kay Sung calmly enjoyed his tea.
After the recording ended, the assistant froze the CCTV footage and cropped the faces of the three culprits responsible for the attack.
"There are three main individuals responsible for this attack. First is Max Radcliff, a Rank C hunter. Second is Ryuken Kozo, a Rank B hunter. And lastly, Lars Dicker, a Rank F hunter. All of their hunter identities are registered in the South Region."
"Rank F? How is it possible for someone that low-ranked to attack our territory?" one of the members asked.
"Is he really Rank F, or was there some mistake in identifying his identity?" another member asked.
"I checked it multiple times. I also thought there might have been some mistake, but the data I’m showing you is correct," the female assistant said.
Maria’s eyes widened slightly when she saw Lars’s face. She was familiar with that face and that name. After some thought, she finally remembered him.
’He’s the guy who helped my son before. So he’s the one responsible for this. How interesting...how fate works.’
Kay Sung, on the other hand, stopped stirring his tea as he slowly raised his head.
"That Lars person might be Rank F, but his abilities don’t match his rank. Among the three, he is the most dangerous," Kay Sung said.
"I agree with Kay Sung." Thom added.
"One more thing. After further investigation, I found out that Ryuken is actually an active member of Mazeltov, whose main area of activity is District 21 in the South Region," the assistant added.
"Mazeltov? Why were they involved? Didn’t we already agree to a peaceful truce with them?" Thom asked.
"It is obvious now. With that guy attacking us, it proves that they have already broken the truce. Thom, mobilize our people to District 21 and find those two other individuals."
"Kay Sung, you are responsible for dealing with Mazeltov. Bring the other two with you," Maria ordered.
"Your wish is my command," Kay Sung said with a nod.
All the other members inside the room began whispering among themselves. Maria had finally mobilized the top three hunters in their organization. That meant she wasn’t playing around this time. She was serious.

Lars was currently sleeping like a log in his room, lying topless with his abdomen heavily bandaged.
After such a long day of moving and fighting, he needed to rest properly.
