Cillian found himself staring at his ceiling window first thing in the morning after the memorial service ended, where a lot of people were crying at the burials, bawling their eyes out as they hugged their families and partners, while others struggled to accept that the dead couldn’t return anymore.

But for Cillian?

He was utterly disappointed that the fun today had been cut short because of some intervention.

Imagine being part of a group of kids who were about to play outside, like Cillian’s group, with everyone looking forward to it, only to find out that the weather was bad and they couldn’t play.

Know what? It’s fine. They can just continue playing the next day. However, they only found out that the rain continued the next day, and the day after that.

That’s what the presence of the Xesie Family had brought to them.

’No, wait. Maybe I’m being negative. Even though Dena’s face was already saying a lot yesterday, maybe we can push ahead with the plan. Yes, Scott might know. He’s the one who handles analytics.’

That’s why Cillian set up a meeting today while being careful about his movements by taking a trip to the Underworld.

That was until he arrived in the Underworld, entered their base of operations, and saw Scott’s stern expression, giving him a reality check.

"No, variables that we can’t control will start to appear. All of us understood that our plan would work if we’re in control, right? And now, the other families backing off their support from the other factions is a sign."

Scott started giving him excuses that sounded so right, which they definitely were, yet so wrong in Cillian’s ears. The more he heard about it, the more his disappointment grew.

"Our plan will only work if we aren’t exposed. I understand that you’re disappointed, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Will you be able to handle the consequences that would follow if that were to happen?"

Consequences.

Of course, Cillian knew about the consequences.

They were about to stab people in the back, for goodness’ sake, and he was most definitely looking forward to it, until that wasn’t going to happen anymore.

Upon seeing that this kid was the most disappointed among the faces he had seen from Dena and Dennis, Scott immediately gave him some sort of reassurance as he nudged his eyeglass.

"Hey, that doesn’t mean our plan to take over the Underworld has stopped. I’m not confident in taking things on my own, but what I can do is improve how we’re going to proceed from this point."

Improvement.

There was really no need for improvement in the plan. Everything had already been set from the beginning, and even to this freaking day, it was supposed to happen.

Cillian started to adjust his thoughts and calmly asked.

"May I know what led to this conclusion?"

Cillian already had his suspicions in mind, but he wanted to hear what Scott had to say.

Well, Scott had already given him one reason but he understood where Cillian was coming from. He nodded and said.

"My men spotted a few men from Xesie going into the Underworld to do some checking. We have proof that some people have been poached by them."

Scott handed Cillian this proof before continuing.

"Then, yesterday, right after the Memorial Service, they were spotted roaming around Viola as if they were looking for something."

The sharp Scott, who was aware of what Xesie was probably hiding from the public, added in a slightly hoarse tone,

"Do you think they’re looking for the remains of that God? Like its soul, since it might be one of their purpose coming here? You know, it might be an order from the Shepherds?"

As for Cillian, he was already thinking about the reason for another great family appearing on this land as he nodded and brought the proof down.

"That or something else. But I’m most definitely sure they’re looking for it."

Now, Cillian was almost certain that the Xesie Family was working with the Shepherds. However, unless there was physical evidence proving this instead of relying on some villain’s words, then exposing this family would have to come at a later date.

Cillian was already planning a few things on how he would destroy this family if Arthur’s words ever turned out to be true. However, that should’ve happened when he was already there, not here.

’I can’t just say that those pink-haired bastards were secretly glaring at me, but that’s not enough evidence.’

Letting out a sigh, Cillian slowly accepted his situation.

’So this is what it feels like to have your plans thwarted? Well, this time, it’s really ruining my mood.’

Cillian felt really unmotivated, but then regained his motivation when he realized that he could resume his goal.

Yes, even though the Underworld was a fun quest to have some fun, Cillian had great plans for it so that the attack from Xesie could go smoothly.

But with their intervention, Cillian was back to square one.

’I can just continue this at a later date.’

Cillian’s interest in the Underworld died down.

He felt a slight pang in his heart because he wasn’t able to do the things he wanted, but he needed to move on and focus on the real goal to begin with.

The reason he wanted to control the Underworld in the first place.

"Scott, I’ll leave everything to you."

Cillian paused.

"And also, Finn Montolov might make some contact with you."

Scott’s mouth was about to open, but Cillian decided to continue by adding,

"And also also, there’s a traitor among the Whisper Brokers. Can you find out who it is?"

Scott looked at this kid who didn’t stop barking orders as if he were nothing more than a servant, but he let out a sigh.

Scott smiled rather strangely.

"I will do it, Boss."

He said it with a hint of sarcasm that caught Cillian off guard.

But somehow, Cillian liked it.

Then, Scott’s face turned serious.

"Cillian, give me a heads-up about the developments in Xesie."

Cillian nodded and turned around, then gave him a wave goodbye as he left their hideout. Waiting for him outside was his supposed guard, Darwin Moose.

"Sir, our meeting yesterday was quite brief. Do you have a lot of free time to talk?"

Darwin’s demeanor was different from what he usually exhibited back at the Academy, where he was calm, approachable, and easygoing. Now, that usual expression was nowhere to be seen.

His eyes, as if he had returned to the time when he was part of the hunting dogs that hunted Black Shepherds, were cold.

"Sure kid."

...

After talking with Darwin about his own circumstances, Cillian immediately went to do another deal that he had promised to finish today after the party ended yesterday.

There, he spotted a group of carriages and a woman two years older than him waiting while wearing casual clothes.

"Ah, come on! You’re late!"

Caspin shouted before her eyes narrowed at the sight of Darwin running beside him, which made her yelp in surprise.

"Principal?!"

Darwin let out a soft smile despite his miserable expression. He tried to give her a reassuring smile, but he even failed to do that.

"Hey, don’t mind him."

Cillian brought out the three Artifacts he was willing to exchange. With a pained expression forming on his face, he handed them all over to Caspin.

"The deal, remember?"

"We couldn’t do it over a wired telephone?"

"I don’t trust it."

Caspin nodded before saying,

"So this is it."

Cillian returned the same nod back.

Seeing that Cillian had nothing more to say, Caspin turned and tried to enter their carriage with her brothers. The trip they were about to take would be a long one, but she had to stop when she heard Cillian say something.

"Hey, I’m really sorry about what happened at the Academy!"

Caspin turned her head around and stared at him for a while.

Truth be told, she was already aware that Cillian wasn’t the type of person to do that. It wasn’t like she trusted him, but she trusted her friend Freya’s words and the impression she had gotten of Cillian, whom she was supposed to be monitoring.

And he had also saved Viola. There was no way Cillian was that type of person.

Right?

She was feeling a mix of emotions deep inside her heart. In fact, she wasn’t expecting any apology from Cillian, who also seemed unaware of what had happened at that time.

But for some reason, she was glad. She felt that the mixed-up emotions she had been feeling because of Cillian disappeared right in that moment.

’Maybe I really need to hear it coming from him.’

Caspin let out a sigh of relief as she chuckled and smiled widely.

"Sure!"
