Chapter 581: Chapter 579: Always Breaking Promises

A smile deepened in Mika Summers’s eyes at the thought. Plate in hand, she left her room, intending to go downstairs and find Tristan. But to her surprise, she saw him standing right at the door of the adjacent room.

She tiptoed over, reaching out to tap Tristan Grayson on the shoulder. But before her hand could land, he suddenly spun around.

The shock made her heart pound, and she almost dropped the entire plate on herself.

Clutching her chest, she glared at Tristan Grayson. "Tristan, you... you trying to give me a heart attack?!"

"Are you okay?" Tristan Grayson hadn’t expected such a strong reaction and immediately asked with concern.

Mika Summers, her face pale, shook her head. "Don’t touch me. My heart is still racing."

"Don’t be scared. Let me hold you, and you won’t be scared anymore," Tristan Grayson said, his expression one of earnest concern as he pulled her into an embrace, comforting her softly.

"—" Sure enough, after a moment of his gentle coaxing, her heart stopped pounding so erratically. But when she recalled his words, her cheeks couldn’t help but flush bright red.

She awkwardly pushed Tristan Grayson away and peered into the room. There, she saw Kiki sitting on the floor, holding a small pair of scissors, his face alight with excitement as he stared at the pile of gifts before him.

"Kiki, what are you doing?" She thrust the plate she was holding into Tristan’s arms and walked into the room, her expression worried.

"Opening presents! Daddy said these are all for me." Afraid someone would snatch them away, Kiki wrapped his little arms around two large boxes.

Mika Summers saw the scissors in Kiki’s hand pointed right at his own little face. The sight nearly gave her a heart attack. "Tristan, how could you let Kiki play with something as dangerous as scissors?"

"It’s fine. They’re just little craft scissors. Kiki plays with them often. He knows his limits and won’t hurt himself."

"Not fine? Look how dangerous that is!" ’Even if they’re just small scissors, a kid shouldn’t be playing with them!’

"—" Tristan Grayson looked at Mika Summers with a hint of exasperation. ’They’re just a small pair of scissors, aren’t they? How dangerous can they be?’ Of course, he only dared to think this to himself. ’If my wife says it’s dangerous, then it’s dangerous.’

Mika Summers shot Tristan Grayson an angry glare before bending down and snatching the scissors from Kiki’s hands. "Kiki, scissors are dangerous items. You’re not allowed to touch them."

"Hmph. Fine, I won’t touch them. I can open these without scissors anyway! Mommy, you’re not allowed to take them! Everything here is mine! All mine!"

Seeing how possessively Kiki was guarding his gifts, Mika Summers couldn’t help but laugh. "Okay, okay, they’re all yours. Everything here belongs to Kiki and Kiki alone. Mommy won’t try to take them from you."

"Mommy, you’re not tricking me?" Kiki clearly didn’t quite trust his mother.

"Mm-hm, I’m not tricking you. Mommy keeps her promises!"

Even after Mika Summers gave her assurance, Kiki was still a bit uneasy. He thought for a moment, then stuck out his pinky and said with a grin, "If Mommy isn’t tricking me, then let’s make a pinky promise!"

"Pfft, you little rascal. Mommy already said she wouldn’t trick you, and she means it, yet you still want a pinky promise," Mika Summers said with a laugh, extending her hand to link pinkies with Kiki.

Kiki tilted his head back, unimpressed, and said coolly, "You grown-ups are always breaking your promises."

Only after they made the pinky promise did Kiki finally relax, sitting down to figure out how to open his presents.

Watching Kiki’s serious expression, Mika Summers gave another doting smile. She turned to Tristan Grayson and raised an eyebrow. "Come on, let’s let him play by himself. Otherwise, he’ll keep thinking I’m going to steal his presents."
